With all of the 'history-based' games that are currently available, what period or event in history do you think has been overlooked and what game-mechanics would you craft to allow this period of history to be "played" in a video-game???

Personally, I would like to see a first-person shooter/empire building game set on the Appalachian Frontier shortly after the War of 1812.
One of the aspects that would make such a game particularly interesting is the fact that the exclusively muzzle-loading firearms of the time, and their slow re-load speed would force the player to choose between attempting to re-load, using the butt of the rifle as a club, or grabbing a secondary weapon such as a knife or hatchet, when faced with an attacking enemy.
As for missions, a player would build their wealth and power by;
1.) Hunting animals either to supply meat to work-camps or for pelts.
2.) Hunt/battle Native Americans on the behalf of the Government for a monetary reward, or assist the Native Americans so that you can trade with them latter, or because there will be more then one tribe, assist one to gain their favor and fight the other to eliminate your allied tribes enemy.
3.) Assist escaping slaves, or capture them for a 'bounty' (BTW; there were 'Free-Black' bounty-hunters in Appalachia).
4.) 'Moonshine' and/or smuggle illegal spirits into a 'dry' county, or assist the government to capture moonshiners/destroy illegal stills.
5.) Join with strikers in one of the work-camps or get paid to be a strikebreaker.
6.) As your clan becomes more powerful. compete against, collaborate with, or battle other backwoods tycoons.
Depending on how you execute each mission, the player would distance themselves from or ingratiate themselves to a variety of Governments (the Federal Government, various state governments, etc.), Native American Tribes, Political Parties, criminal organizations, other 'tycoons' attempting t establish backwoods empires (in logging, mining, etc.) and powerful 'families' (like the Hatfields & McCoys, who came latter)...
Finally, as both a game-mechanic and an opportunity for humor, the game would allow you to marry and, assuming you marry someone of the opposite sex, sire children who will eventually assist you with your endeavors, such as bounty-hunting or moonshining. What will make this part of the game potentially humorous, is that you will be presented with the opportunity to marry a character who shares your character's chosen last name....

Also, some morally-correct choices, such as assisting escaping slaves, would increase your moral-standing but not increase your wealth and power, whereas the immoral choice (capturing escaping slaves) would increase your wealth and power...

Maybe a cold-war era double agent spy?
Not like an action game, but more of a stealth one where you'd be pressed to appease both sides with sabotage and/or information leaks or be uncovered. A lot of complex decision making.

Game of Thrones.
That's already a game and not an actual historical event.

The Crusades (you could choose to play as a Saracen or a Temlpar Knight). The battle of Jerusalem would be epic with current graphics.
