" You better figure out how much you hate me. And how you're going to deal with that. 'Cause I'm not going anywhere." - Vic Mackey

“Let me tell ya something. Nowadays, everybody's gotta go to shrinks, and counselors, and go on*Sally Jessy Raphael*and talk about their problems. What happened to Gary Cooper? The strong, silent type. That was an American. He wasn't in touch with his feelings. He just did what he had to do. See, what they didn't know was once they got Gary Cooper in touch with his feelings that they wouldn't be able to shut him up! And then it's dysfunction this, and dysfunction that, and dysfunction*vaffancul!”- Tony Soprano

“People tell you who they are, but we ignore it because we want them to be who we want them to be.”- Don Draper

"You clearly don't know who you are talking to, so let me clue you in. I am not in danger, I am the danger. A guy opens his door and gets shot, and you think that of me? No! I am the one who knocks."- Walter White

"Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy, both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me." - Michael Scott

"There's very little advice in men's magazines, because men don't think there's a lot they don't know. Women do. Women want to learn. Men think, "I know what I'm doing, just show me somebody naked."- Jerry Seinfeld

I have been thinking about making a thread for the TV stuff I watch for a while. I started binge watching Friday Night Lights this weekend and thought it was as good a place as any to start. A lot of this stuff will be rewatches but I will try and do new stuff as I get into shows as well. My thought was to write a smidge about each episode, but if this becomes too daunting I will probably abandon it. So I will probably write a bit about half a season at a time. Characters I like, quotes, stuff like that. Hopefully a little discussion will spring forth, but if not a place for your thoughts is never a bad thing.

:yup::up::yup::up::yup::up::yup::up:

Great great series. I read the book which was based on a true story and they made it into a movie with Billy Bob. The tv series was more enjoyable than both, not more authentic obviously, but more enjoyable.

The performer that owned that series was Kyle Chandlers portrayal of Coach Eric Taylor. His solid energy throughout, and the gorgeous Connie Britton playing his wife, they played off each other beautifully. Taylor Kisch was good, very likable character in Riggs, but surprised he got more of a break from the show compared to Chandler. The Coaches daughter.....didnt like her, not a bit. :nope:

There are a handful of women in film that just blew me away when I saw them for the first time. Julie Christie in Dr Zhivago, Salma Hayek in Desperado,.....and Minka Kelly in Friday Night Lights

Season1: Episodes 1-12

I sat down late last Saturday night to watch an episode of a show I love, and ended up watching four episodes. Then Four the next night. Before you know it, I was half way through the first season. This show is weirdly addictive. It is melodramatic and manipulative, but I love spending time with these characters.

Pros: The glue of that central relationship. Eric and Tami Taylor are the conscious of the show and one of the best couples to be put onto the screen. Their relationship is sweet and funny. The conflict they have feels organic, and is actually enjoyable to watch.

I love all the players. They may be cliches, but they are drawn really well. Not a story line that comes along that I don't enjoy following.

The show looks great. I don't know what you call the filming style but I love it. Shaky at times, lots of close ups, and I love how the camera does not always focus on the action. Really good production.

Cons: High Schoolers portrayed as adults can be distracting at times. Some of the adults are so nonexistent that they are literally nonexistent.

I think they didn't know exactly where they were going to go with all their characters which leaves them feeling a little uneven at times. Smash in particular comes to mind.

The Voo Doo story arc is horrendous. Thankfully it only lasts a few episodes. They could have easily made this a great story line by not having him be a laughably bad villain. If he was even half a decent human being the conflict of him being such an upgrade over Matt could have made for great drama. As it is, he is such a clown that no one gives a damn about him. Including the writers who quickly discard him.

Best moment: The second game which ends up being a loss, but is a great moment for Matt. I wish every single game didn't end on the last play, but it sure makes some of them fun to watch.

Worst moment: Voo Doo totally ignoring the coach during the game he starts. Easy out for everyone involved.

Yeah I remember the camera was at its shakiest season 1, and then its less shaky seasons after.

There were two people in the tv series that were also in the movie, Connie Britton and the guy that played Buddy Garrity. I liked Buddy! :) Have you seen all the episodes before Sean, all 5 seasons?

I actually had to Google that, Ive never watched The Office. Should I watch the british or us version?

Some will say British, some will say US. Daniel M will say both.

I've only seen the US version, but it's my favorite show. That's partly for personal reasons - it helped me through a tough time.

Both, but Ithe American version is one of my favorite things ever.

Also, yes I have seen all 5 seasons of Friday Night Lights. One of the few dramas I watched every episode as they aired. The early days of DVR and what not.

Second half of season1 was actually quite a bit less eventful than the first half. A whole lot of setup for season 2. Which is fine because if I remember correctly things are about to get real good.

Pros: The beginning of Landry and Tyra. I didn't remember this storyline getting started this quickly, but I am glad it has.

The end of Jason and Lyla. I start to like Lyla better know. She becomes less of a crybaby.

I like the Riggins story thread with the kid and his mother. Riggins is always better when sober and acting like an adult.

Cons: I think the actual games during the Panthers state title run is the worst part of the season for me. The semi-final game where they manufacture a way to play a game in a cow pasture being the worst part.

I actually forgot we see Voo Doo again. Luckily it is not for very long.

Not a lot to say about this second half unfortunately. I liked it but it definitely leaves me wanting more. I'll be glad to start season 2, and glad for the 12 episode seasons.
