Thanks, got the idea from your album thread!
Horrible video, but probably the most interest song of Paul's, though the riff is Linda's. I was listening to this for the first time before going to Siam (Thailand).. Enjoy.. Most McCartney fans I've met have never even hear this song, so comments are very welcome.

I love that song. Thinking of it as a prototype Disco song is an interesting angle. I don't know enough about music to be able to argue the point, but I don't think it is. I think it's just too bluesy Even if it is, I think The Supremes have a couple of songs which predate it and, IMO, have a stronger claim. Not that they're disco, either.
It's probably something obscure that I've never heard of, but I'd be looking in and around The Jackson/Jackson 5 for the first. That kind of Motown but funkier sound.

Peace Frog was written in 1969, it's the rhythm, man! This music program used The Trammps because of the quarter notes on the bass drum, which is exactly what John Densmore does, and even skips a beat on the snare, which REALLY gives it a disco feel.
Do you remember the song title you had in mind, Supremes or Jacksons?

Time for my favorite song of all-time. It's been my favorite song since I was 14.. Best music, lyrics, vocals, guitar solo. What else could one want from life?

Think maybe me and HK would recognise some of the early Northern Soul (a UK term) as the early disco. Stuff like this from 1969

The Supremes song I was thinking of was You Keep Me Hanging On. It's something I've heard a few times recently because of the song tournament. Again, I'm not saying it is disco (as I don't think Peace Frog is) but that you can hear things here which become familiar in disco.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3bjMtqpGBw
I didn't have any song in mind for TheJacksons, just that kind of sound at the turn of the decade. Here's a classic which is also from 1969.

Northern Soul hadn't really occurred to me, Christine, but you're right and that's along the lines of 'funkier Motown' sound I was talking about. Too funky for disco, but again, you can hear it in the track.

I like the song by The Supremes. I usually don't like remakes, but Vanilla Fudge did a really good one. I'll try to listen to the Jackson song when I get a better connection.

I love funk, I love the brass sections, early funk, soul, motown, philly soul all lead directly into disco in my head anyway :)

The Jacksons song is I Want You Back. I'm sure you know it. :)
There's also a good Kim WIlde version of Keep Me Hanging On. Vanilla Fudge did some good stuff. My mum had one of their albums so I'd hear it when I was a kid.

They do to me, too. That's the point I was trying to make. I don't think any of these things are disco, but you can hear the origins or the things which were taken to mold into disco in each of them.

When Jimmy Page was forming Led Zeppelin, he sought Terry Reid, but turned him down, so Jimmy went with Robert Plant.
Great singer, I like him more than Plant, but who knows what we would have lost - also don't know what we'd have gained.

Billy Joel - Captain Jack
(I listened to this a lot in SF, so it gives me memories, but I'll post my favorite Billy Joel song one of these days.. I love the verses, even though some of the words and timing aren't there. Like Elton John, he doesn't have the best choruses.)

Hey matt, very nice compilation you've got going here! I love how most of the songs seem to fit a certain mood when played together or put me in a mellowish mood. Almost like a DJ of early 70's rock stations and how they would string together deep cuts mixed with some hits and it produced a nice continuity somehow. This is making me want to throw my windows open and let the breeze it like I used to when I was a teen at home, listening to deep cuts.
I know Old Siam, Sir. Huge McCartney fan here, and I love a lot of his hits that seemed to have slid under the carpet in later years.
Peace Frog is my absolute favorite Doors song.
Time is my favorite Pink Floyd song. I'm not a huge Floyd fan but every time this sing is on the radio (which is rare), I turn it up. Love the start of it---almost sounds like a spaghetti western theme, and I love the guitar solo---one of the best!
A Day in the Life is of course one of the very best Beatles songs, one that just takes you away.
I had never heard of Terry Reid till now, so thinks for posting that. Very cool and I love the use of flute in the song.
ELO's Can't Get it Out of My Head. Love ELO and this is certainly one the best by them.
Led Zeppelin and Achilles Last Stand. Very nice. One of their most hard-driving songs that still can be heard in a mellow state of mind.
Earth Wind and Fire. That's the Way of the World. One of the best bands ever formed. I saw the movie of the same name as the song back in the early 70's and enjoyed it greatly. Earth Wind and Fire were prominently displayed in the movie, along with...Harvey Keitel!
All these lists in the music forum are inspiring me to start one of my own...as soon as get the time!

I'd also love to listen to what you put out! I'm always trying to find songs I don't know from the 60's and 70's, but it's so much easier listening to a song you already know. It's like watching movies, but I don't have to exert any attention.

Steely Dan - Time Out Of Mind
One of my favorite bands, but not a song I love, a song I hardly listen to, but as I was flipping, this song described the feeling I had at that moment - I was very happy to see the similar taste in music, and glad you listened as a soundtrack. I'm also not wanting to put the same artist again if I don't have to, but then again, if it feels right I'll go with it. Maybe I'll start a little playlist, since a few people seem to enjoy the music!

Jim Croce - I Got A Name
I'm going to listen to this next. It reminds me of my first trip to San Francisco, though I've been listening to songs when I was in SF a few weeks ago to take me back. I really miss it, and I really miss the apartment I stayed at, from a woman I met in a chat room. Never even saw her face, but I did e-mail her my songs, talked on the phone once or twice, and she mailed me her keys. Had the flat to myself for almost 2 weeks, and became like home. I did more there in a day than I have since I've been back in Flint.

That's what I thought. That's why I was taken aback. Not that you have to hear every song ever, but it's one of his biggest successes and, like When Doves Cry, has been played to death.
The one thing I've learned since Prince died is that there seems to be an entire generation who really don't know his stuff at all. That's why I asked, because I didn't think you were part of that.

You don't have to know what she's saying - her voice is wonderful, the instrumentation is great, also great production/mixing, etc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wbLBZmL43Q
This is what she's saying, if you care to know. This is a cover by the way. The original is by Joseph Saqr.
I'm used to your eyes
I've been lost and lonely because of them
Your eyes are black
And you don't know what black eyes do to me
Upon the rumble of the bus that was carrying us from the village of Hamlaya to the village of Tannourine I remembered you, oh Aaliyah, and I remember your eyes
God damn your eyes are so pretty Aaliyah
We were riding the bus in this heat and dying of exhaustion
One guy's eating lettuce, another guy's eating figs
And there's another guy with his wife
Wow, his wife is so ugly
Lucky them, their minds are completely empty, the Tannourine passengers
They don't know your eyes, Aaliyah
They're so beautiful
We were riding the bus, riding without paying
Sometimes we shut up the door for the driver

Electric Light Orchestra - Can't Get It Out Of My Head
In 2000, I would hang out with this girl in my car, driving to my old high school. We'd play a game, trying to guess the name of the song on a variety of classic rock stations. Well, on this occasion, we were both stuck, which is weird since we were both already pretty big fans of ELO.. She said "Ah Matt, you won't care tomorrow" but I couldn't get it out of my head, and then I found out who it was, and what the title was.

America - Saturn Nights
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEbuIdlEJow
Just by a coincidence I'm listening to this on Independence Day, (aka fireworks day).. I've thought a lot about America, and it's heartbreaking. Then my closest friend screws up again to the point I'm done being friends with him. Then I talk to a girl, a beautiful girl on random Skype.. Not only beautiful, but she had a wonderful smile, and I was in a jovial mood, made her laugh/smile constantly, and she loved all the music I did, and she played songs, seeing if I'd guess them, and they were all my favorites. After an hour, the connection went bad, or she just quit to hurt me.. I did tell her early on what a great girl I thought she was.. I went on Skype, needing to talk to my Russian friend, she was busy. Then I hear Abbas Kiarastami died, a director who left such an impression me. I saw two of his movies, and then my cousin's membership ended.. Cimino died yesterday, only saw a few movies, but 2016 took the lives of some of my favorite musicians in a time there aren't many left... David Bowie, Glenn Frey and a few others.

I like many genres, music from many countries.. I can only like what I like. I give everything a chance, and just like movies, if I see a trend in my tastes, I'll follow it - there's only so much time, and I won't waste it.

I already know this will be better than his last two solo albums. The problems was that they lacked melody. Very wordy, very little music. I think Roger Waters is the greatest writer there is, and with more focus on music, I'm very excited. I've seen him three times already, but might have to sneak in to the show in August :)

Led Zeppelin - No Quarter (live)
I get memories of watching this concert on Fridays on VH1 when I was 14.. Still one of my Top 5 bands ever. The jamming here is amazing.. Page, Jonesy, and Bonham are just funking it up so well I regret the funk they did was always tongue-in-cheek (and with other genres).. There's a dissonant chord Jonesy hits 3 different times, and for over 20 years I'm always listening for it. The guitar solo is so emotional, great rhythm, great riffs. That's why he's my very favorite.

I listen to this probably once a month to hear a language I recognize. I wish Jim did more of this, just not so drunk. People need to be shook up once in a while simply to evaluate and ask themselves the questions that are avoided for a cozy position picking up your boss' dog turds.

Pink Floyd - The Fletcher Memorial Home
Take all your overgrown infants away somewhere
And build them a home, a little place of their own.
The Fletcher Memorial
Home for Incurable Tyrants and Kings.
And they can appear to themselves every day
On closed circuit T.V.
To make sure they're still real.
It's the only connection they feel.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome, Reagan and Haig,
Mr. Begin and friend, Mrs. Thatcher, and Paisly,
"Hello Maggie!"
Mr. Brezhnev and party.
"Scusi dov'è il bar?"
The ghost of McCarthy,
The memories of Nixon.
"Who's the bald chap?"
"Good-bye!"
And now, adding colour, a group of anonymous latin-
American meat packing glitterati.
Did they expect us to treat them with any respect?
They can polish their medals and sharpen their
Smiles, and amuse themselves playing games for awhile.
Boom boom, bang bang, lie down you're dead.
Safe in the permanent gaze of a cold glass eye
With their favorite toys
They'll be good girls and boys
In the Fletcher Memorial Home for colonial
Wasters of life and limb.
Is everyone in?
Are you having a nice time?
Now the final solution can be applied.

The song I've known from them since I was a kid was not one I ever liked, so I never checked them out, but a chat friend of mine posted a song title (only because it was relevant to the conversation) but because he has good taste in music, I thought I'd check it out, and it's a really cool song! I've listened to it quite a lot. Not many hard rock songs with a tambourine throughout the song.. But I think I like it because it's in a minor chord. I think the second chord change is another minor, but then it reverts to the first chord (Am?).. The drums don't change, and the song is very simple, but it's definitely an exception to my rule.

Fairport Convention - Autopsy
First positive thing that happened to me in a very long time. Finding this song. I've been a fan of Sandy Denny (and FC) for a long time but went all out, album by album, starting from the beginning. What I love about is that a folk band is doing jazz with a marvelous singer (I usually prefer instrumental 50s West Coast "cool" jazz) or Bill Evans alone on a piano, but when a woman sings, it's better. I'm kinda tired of males.. Same with movies, too, hence, my "Favorite movies centered around a woman". There's many ways of expanding, and this is just another one. Maybe I'll only wanna watch a movie about old people now that I'll be 40 next month. If I make it.
