The following are my Top 40 Songs by the greatest female solo artist of all time...

MADONNA
http://s1.bwallpapers.com/wallpapers/2014/04/11/madonna_11330592.jpg

40. EXPRESS YOURSELF
(1989, Like A Prayer)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsVcUzP_O_8
This upbeat dance-pop classic is actually one of my least favorite songs by Madonna. It has not aged too well for me. But it's still a very good song; hence, it's inclusion on the list.

39. THE LOOK OF LOVE
(1987, Who's That Girl: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIcaIEjXpwg
This overlooked and, to many, obscure track from the 80's comedy film Who's That Girl soundtrack is actually a genuinely good down-tempo ballad written with the character Madonna plays in the movie in mind.

38. BITCH I'M MADONNA
(2015, Rebel Heart)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hPMmzKs62w
Off of her most recent album, this song, that features Nicki Minaj, best captures the elements that made her the undisputed Queen of Pop in the 80's and 90's.

mojofilter
01-16-16, 11:23 AM
37. BURNING UP
(1982, Madonna)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pufec0Hps00
One of her very first singles off of her debut album, this song, much like the single before it "Everybody", became a dance hit for the up and coming singer. In my opinion, this song is far more superior to Everybody, though.

01-16-16, 11:28 AM
36. JUSTIFY MY LOVE
(1990, The Immaculate Collection)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np_Y740aReI
Written by Lenny Kravitz, this mid-tempo and extremely sensual song became a huge hit for Madonna. It was so huge that many critics hailed it as her best work to date at the time.

This was awful.

This was awful.
I liked it. It's nowhere as good or strong as her classics, but it's the best thing she has made in the last decade or so. I honestly stopped buying her records after Ray Of Light, but I listen to the singles, and this one, like I described in the caption to the video, best captures elements of her past glory.

35. TAKE A BOW
(1994, Bedtime Stories)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDeiovnCv1o
Co-written by Babyface, who also provided vocals, this mid-tempo pop ballad and US number 1 hit is one of Madonna's most heartfelt and beautiful songs.

mojofilter
01-16-16, 12:02 PM
34. MUSIC
(2000, Music)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sdz2oW0NMFk
This mega electro-dance-pop international smash hit is Madonna's last phenomenally great song that she has managed to release.

What songs do you expect to see, MoFo's?

honeykid

Vogue, Like A Prayer, Borderline, Into The Groove, This Used To Be My Playground, Live To Tell, La Isla Bonita, True Blue, Papa Don't Preach. I'll stop there otherwise I might as well list 20 or so Madonna tracks. From my own pov, I'd like to see Gambler in there somewhere. I don't hear it mentioned much but I really rate it.

I don't know a lot of Madonna's songs, and I don't like most of her songs that I do know, but the only Madonna song that I like is "Crazy For You" from the movie Vision Quest.

33. DEAR JESSIE
(1989, Like A Prayer)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGYmN-1UQzI
Written as a children's lullaby, this sweet melodic Beatles-esque tune is one of Madonna's most charming and underrated songs.

32. LIKE A PRAYER
(1989, Like A Prayer)

At the time of its release, this gospel inspired song was Madonna's biggest hit single.

31. DROWNED WORLD/SUBSTITUTE FOR LOVE
(1998, Ray Of Light)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4ChERg__G8
One of the most ambitious songs in Madonna's back catalog. Madonna recorded this mid-tempo electronic pop gem during the time she was training her vocal range for the movie Evita. The song has been hailed as Madonna at her most mature and restrained.

"Like A Prayer" is my favorite of hers. My favorite album, too, actually. I have the original LP that was scented. I kept it in one of those plastic album covers. So, it is still vaguely there after all of these years.

I was very pleasantly surprised to see both "Dear Jessie" and "Substitute For Love" on here.

30. I'LL REMEMBER
(1994, With Honors: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWJ_yWAaXAI
Written for the Joe Pesci and Brendan Fraser 1994 drama With Honors, this brilliant and soaring ballad is one of Madonna's most moving songs, earning her a Golden Globe nomination that year for Best Song.

29. BAD GIRL
(1992, Erotica)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUII7DTACf4
One of the highlights on her 1992 album, Bad Girl is a riveting and tragic song about a woman living on a path of self-destruction. The song is mostly famous for its video, directed by David Fincher and featuring Christopher Walken as Madonna's guardian angel.

mojofilter
01-16-16, 09:27 PM
28. TRUE BLUE
(1986, True Blue)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P51LunEV3Sk
The infectious title track from her massively successful album that catapulted her into the stratosphere, the song True Blue is a love letter from Madonna to her then-husband, legendary actor Sean Penn.

Like A Prayer is one of the those songs that I grew up loving, heard a million times to the point where I can not listen to the whole song again, which explains why I did not rank it higher. I still believe it's an incredible song, hence its inclusion on my list.

27. CHERISH
(1989, Like A Prayer)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8q2WS6ahCnY
A song about love and relationships, this incredible pop staple is one of Madonna's most recognizable signature songs.

26. SECRET

mojofilter
01-17-16, 02:37 AM
25. EROTICA
(1992, Erotica)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyhdvRWEWRw
The early 90's is refered to today as the era when Madonna behaved badly. She was the subject of the candid documentary movie Truth Or Dare, wrote a tell-all book she titled Sex, appeared nude in the erotic thriller flop Body Of Evidence, and named her 1992 album Erotica, with the title track being this extremely sensual song about being horny. Still, a catchy and hardcore song after all these years.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfbmQYJEyKA
The theme song of her 1987 comedy movie Who's That Girl that was bashed by critics and movie-goers. The soundtrack, though, was a hit. This song being a highlight of the soundtrack and Madonna's entire discography.

22. OPEN YOUR HEART
(1986, True Blue)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snsTmi9N9Gs
Originally written as a rock song for Cyndi Lauper, Madonna switched it into a dance pop track and included it on her highly successful True Blue album. The song was a phenomenal hit single, and one of the highlights of the album and her career.

(1996, Evita: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1sIChozMec
In 1996, Madonna surprised critics and the rest of the world with a great acting performance, one that earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy that year, in Alan Parker's film adaptation of the musical play about the life and death of Argentina's former first lady Evita Peron. The highlight of the movie was this song. Madonna has never sounded better.

Written as a response to all the critics and naysayers who criticized her for being open about her sex life in the early 90's with the Sex book and the Erotica album, and a satirical take on the taboos of society and its restrictions when it comes to anything involving sex, this song is one of Madonna's most underrated, humorous, and 'bad-ass' songs ever.

8. INTO THE GROOVE
(1985, Desperately Seeking Susan: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52iW3lcpK5M
This dance pop classic was featured on the soundtrack to Madonna's first feature film and box office hit Desperately Seeking Susan that co-starred Rosanna Arquette, and later included on a re-issue of the Like A Virgin album.

7. RAIN
(1992, Erotica)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IKMXfI5hzE
This dark and elusive track off of Erotica is, in my opinion, one of Madonna's best pieces of work, and it deserves a lot of recognition for it's ambience and sheer brilliance.

6. VOGUE
(1990, I'm Breathless)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuJQSAiODqI
Featured on the album I'm Breathless which consisted of songs that were featured on the soundtrack to her movie Dick Tracy, even though this song was not in the movie. An upbeat dance-pop and house song that set the trend for dance music in the 90's.

"Into the Groove" is probably my favorite Madonna song.

I don't care at all for "Rain" and don't even really remember what it sounds like.

"Vogue" is a classic Madonna song that I like a lot... and I can't really disagree with its placement.

I think I've finally understood what era of Madonna's long career you are most familiar with now. You're a fan of her 80's material and strictly that.

I think you are seriously going to LOVE the Top 5.

You know what, sleep can wait for a while. I'm concluding the list...

TOP 5 GUESSES......

"Borderline"

"Live to Tell"

"La Isla Bonita"

Hopefully not "Material Girl" because I've never been crazy for that song.

"American Life" (?)

"4 Minutes" (?)

Actually, I really DON'T just love '80s Madonna.

I'm just more aware of her most popular hits. I'm the kind of person who doesn't listen to the whole CD. Although -- I HAVE with some of her quasi-recent albums.

Have you had "Justify My Love?" I really like that one.

Sexy Celebrity

You have.

Let's put it this way -- practically EVERYTHING on her Immaculate Collection CD (EXCEPT "Material Girl" but it's not horrible) is fantastic to me.

Although "Rescue Me" doesn't belong on it.

5. CRAZY FOR YOU
(1985, Vision Quest: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zn5OJGucveg
Featured on the soundtrack to the 80's classic Matthew Modine sports drama Vision Quest, Crazy For You is definitely one of Madonna's most moving pop ballads. The song is simply beautiful and captivating.

You disappoint me with "Crazy For You." While not a bad song, it's one of the inferior ones on the Immaculate Collection CD.

Justify My Love made the list earlier.

I was never a fan of Rescue Me nor American Life, and I thought 4 Minutes was not that good, even though I like Justin Timberlake's work.

"Into the Groove" is one of her absolute best songs. It is probably in my top 3 songs of hers.

I am just hoping that I see "Borderline" in the final group. I don't think that song gets enough respect.

But I have to go to bed now. So, I will see what you end this with tomorrow. :)

(1984, Like A Virgin)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iu_nlPaI_0E
Since we are living in a material world, and Madonna made it clear that she is a material girl in this upbeat and fun pop classic, there was no way I could keep it away from my list. Easily, one of her very best songs, and the video rocks!

3. BORDERLINE
(1983, Madonna)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSaC-YbSDpo
Hailed by critics as the most complex song on her debut album, Borderline is easily my favorite 'earlier' song by the Madonna. It's classic pop at it's finest.

2. LA ISLA BONITA
(1986, True Blue)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqIIW7nxBgc
What a wonderful song this is! I've been a fan of this since I first heard back in the summer of '86. It is by far the richest dance-pop song Madonna had ever written. The song's melody, Spanish instrumentation, and infectious rhythm and amazing lyrics make this one of the ultimate 80's signature songs.

1. LIVE TO TELL
(1986, True Blue)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzAO9A9GjgI
This song is so mesmerizing and brilliantly dark, elusive, and spine-tingling that Madonna's then-husband Sean Penn handpicked this song to be featured on the soundtrack of his underrated 1986 crime drama At Close Range that co-starred Christopher Walken. In fact, the song was so amazing, that the movie's producers decided to make the film's musical score the instrumental arrangement of the song. Live To Tell was a smash hit single for Madonna, and it remains to be the peak of her entire career.
