Go for it

You have bad taste.

Ball of Fire was outdone by both The Lady Eve and Baby Face.

Barbara Stanwyck is a huge talent that can shine a lot brighter than ball of fire. She is my favorite actress and that movie was recommended to me but was unavailable, after waiting two years to watch it I was sorely let down.

There's a lot of boring, slow paced, movies in your top 10, stuck in their day rather than possessing a timeless quality. While I can appreciate many of those movies as a film aficionado the average viewer would be hard pressed to make it through all 10.

You are a passionate film snob who cares only about your own taste. You don't care about what everyone else is into, or even what other film snobs deem "the best." You truly believe in your own style, and your style is old, classic films. You are quite fond of women's pictures. Some people probably have suspected you of being gay. You were probably close to your mother. You are a romantic soul, but you have probably had disappointments in love. You believe in old values and you have faith in humanity. You get along better with women than you do men. However, as evidenced by the fact that Citizen Kane comes first in your list, you believe that a man always comes first before the gals, especially when that man is you. You want to be recognized as the top dog, while you swarm yourself with a posse of doting female companions who also share your old world values.

Citizen Kane? All About Eve? Those films are about as timeless as it gets.

Also, I think you should actually watch some of the films that are in his top 10 before judging them, because I can't believe anyone in their right mind would think that Pickup On South Street, 42nd Street or The Naked Kiss are "boring, slow paced movies". Not even the "average viewer". ;)

Ball of Fire is also a very well made and highly energetic screwball comedy which uses the beauty and class of Barbara Stanwyck exquisitely, but you seem to think otherwise, so I'll grant you that one (even though I still can't understand why).

Barbara Stanwyck is my favorite actress So we have something in common, she's one of my top 5 favorite actresses. I've been working on Stanwyck's filmography marking the films I can easily get at the library and netflix and which I need to find by other methods:cool:

I've seen a lot of her films, about 28 of them, but she made a lot more than that.

You are easygoing with your taste in movies. Simple, but with a splash of uniqueness and seriousness to prove that you care more than the average person about cinema. You have mostly surrounded yourself with guys in your life, unlike Citizen Rules who surrounds himself with gals. You had a strong connection with male members of your family, as evidenced by your strong interest in Lord of the Rings. Grandpa, dad and brothers influenced you. To balance this, you took on a female persona with the drag thing thanks to Psycho. Norman Bates and Janet Leigh are your female inspirations. You know how to be a man while also honoring your sensitive side, which you probably came to feel comfortable with thanks to easygoing, nuturing and accepting male role models. You are not good at keeping relationships though, as evidenced by Forgetting Sarah Marshall. This is a movie you need to trash right now or your relationships will continue to suffer. You deeply value strong male figures and you probably feel a little inadequate as a man yourself, as evidenced by the high ranking of Psycho, which is about male inadequacy.

No argument here. While Citizen Rules put Citizen Kane at #1, you go above and beyond and put it at #3, asserting your masculinity even stronger. Casablanca, the ultimate romance, and Chinatown, the tour-de-force with the strong leading man Jack Nicholson, give you four balls instead of two. THEN you get into the gangster/mafia pictures with Once Upon a Time in America and Goodfellas. This is not a man to be f**ked with. But watch out -- Vertigo is on the horizon, and it'll send you and your balls plummeting into Alfred Hitchcock's black hole of confusion and delirium if you try to go too far over the edge. You will be swept up into the mystery and loneliness and male fantasy of Brazil, leading you stuck into the hynpotic black and white world of 8 1/2. Women and love are your downfall, a realm you're not entirely comfortable with. A realm you'd like to explore deeper, but you're afraid to. Ultimately your biggest problem is The Master. Someone -- a father figure, most likely -- keeps a watchful eye at all times over your psychic life, intruding and dictating and directing your every move. You still suffer from castration anxiety, the Oedipal fear that someone will strip you of your masculinity, your penis, and reduce you to nothing. To alleviate these unconscious fears, you decide to join the team, because you know that deep down, you can never beat it.

In her world, man is a beast, and a woman is to be captured and taken away by the beast. She has two versions of Beauty and the Beast, one which is her #1 film. And she has A Clockwork Orange, another story about the beastly, psychotic, animalistic Malcolm McDowell. Valhalla Rising shows another beastly man on its cover. Sauna shows the woods, the home of the beast. Then there's the priest -- but he's a Priest of Evil. The Wicker Man -- another woodsy male beast. Salo shows what appears to maybe be a nude, victimized woman. MovieGal is tormented by the unconscious belief that all men are savage beasts. Thus, if you joke with MovieGal, she takes it extra seriously, as if a savage beast is coming after her. She runs and flees. Why does she run and flee? Because she doesn't want the beast. Deep down, she wants the goodness of Adam's Apples and The Physician. She wants a caretaker and a healer. But she's afraid. She keeps the good doctor away with her apples -- "an apple a day keeps the doctor away." She has a wall up in the form of that apple tree. This is a woman who watches movies to study the beast called man.

GB is actually a complex character. Her favorite movie is E.T., but her second favorite movie is Dial M for Murder? E.T. always wanted to phone home -- but is he calling to kill someone?! You can bet that's why there's all those stories about how GB loves to get on the phone and complain about every little thing -- on the surface, she's a transcendent, Godly being from another world. Down below, she's a creature from underneath the planet, not above and away from it. A killer, like one of those monsters from Tremors. But don't worry because It's a Wonderful Life! Though she'd love to pick up the phone and dial M, she is restrained by her love of life. And she'll love you forever, even if you're dead, like The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. GB might kill you and make you a ghost, but she still loves you. And it'll be eternal, as GB has a fixation on The Clock -- time. This is why she insists that I learn patience -- there is ALWAYS time. She loves clocks. In fact, she'd prefer that there would be a day when The Day The Earth Stood Still. GB doesn't want time to go anywhere. She wants it to stay the same day forever. Time is meaningless and irrelevant to GB. And life should always be fair for My Fair Lady, GB. 'Cause if it isn't -- DAMN YANKEES! She'll be pissed. A romantic, time stands still soul. Never alone -- for everything is For Me and My Gal. But don't you dare mess with her because she will get her gun with Annie Get Your Gun. For GB, life is an out of this world experience, but if you disagree with her about that, she'll send you out of this world to prove it.

Yandere (ヤンデレ) is a Japanese term for a person who is initially very loving and gentle to someone (or at least innocent) before their devotion becomes destructive in nature, often through violence and/or brutality.

It's pretty much the same stuff. While You Were Sleeping focuses on time again -- 'cause isn't that about a man in a coma? Your first movie is another sci-fi film with aliens -- you have a fascination with aliens. I suspect you like to think of your fantasy man, or your husband or whatever, as being out of this world and extra special. Unlike any other man on Earth. You're a deep romantic. But don't mess with you the wrong way or there will be arsenic and goodbye kisses.

That's pretty close. While You Were Sleeping is about a romance that blossoms between two people, while the man's brother was in a coma. And my fascination with aliens is only with friendly aliens, not the kind of aliens that want to take over the planet.

Foster --

Omnizoa --

I don't know what Ink is. Sci-fi fantasy film. A mysterious creature steals a child's soul. Something to do with nightmares. Okay. Nightmares. And then you have Nightmare Before Christmas. And I also see Inception. So obviously you're fascinated by dreams.

Some childish stuff here. Toy Story. Monty Python. I assume you're young-ish. Teens to 20's. Well, you might be a little older. Your favorite films do kinda look like someone who has lived a bit longer. I assume you like to think of yourself as "different" since I see "DIFFERENT" in big letters on that Monty Python poster.

I don't know what Nausicaa is really about, though I've heard about it to death around here.

Black Dynamite.... The Dark Knight.... so you like a bit of violence. Black Dynamite -- that's that stupid, "humorous" movie I believe I watched with Honeykid. Monty Python. Hmmm. Are you British?

I suspect you've had some early traumas in your life. Maybe you were bullied? You still have an attachment to some childish things. I think you probably live for fantasy and escape. A dream world. You probably have a show-offy, eccentric personality. You believe in being cool. You have a wild side. You're kooky and you're always smiling. But at the same time, you're haunted by something horrific from your past. Like Ripley and her Aliens. You are into escapism. You see pretty colors so you don't have to see the gloomy grays and black and whites. And deep down, you're angry about something. You're very angry. You're ready to get your gun out and blow the whole place down. You're probably prone to getting angry fast and scaring people. But that's not a side of yourself that you really want to present. But you can and it's there.

You have a deep need to belong somewhere (American History X).
But if they do you wrong, you'll cut ties with them.

You have a fixation with loud, violent, crazy men -- Whiplash, The Shining, even American History X again. This is your ideal personality for yourself. One day, you, too, will be loud and violent-like. You probably had an angry father.

You are on a mission (V for Vendetta, Jaws) to get what you want in life. You'll stop at nothing. There are no restrictions.

You are a goofball (A Clockwork Orange) and the leader of the pack. You love intensity.

I haven't seen Requiem for a Dream, but it says it's about people wanting to connect. That's what you do. That's you being a part of something, a group, to connect with others. Movie Forums is probably such a group with you.

The Raid 2 .... like me, you don't mind listing a sequel as one of your favorite films. Independent spirit. The first movie is the parental figure, the sequels are the children. Hmmm, it's about someone at risk after fighting off bad guys. American History X was also about Derek at risk after leaving his Nazi club.

Sinister... family deaths. Supernatural horror. The evil figure. Kidnapping a child. I Saw the Devil... a secret agent... hunting down a killer.... a game of cat and mouse. At your core, you have a dark side. A fascination with exploring the more twisted things in life. You hunt the dark and see yourself in it, but you would never truly belong with it. It's in your heart, but you turn your back on it. You study it. You acknowledge it. You are in some way in league with it. But you're not devoted to it. It's too risky. And you are too independent to fully join with the bad guys.

Yandere (ヤンデレ) is a Japanese term for a person who is initially very loving and gentle to someone (or at least innocent) before their devotion becomes destructive in nature, often through violence and/or brutality.

I don't like this Japanese thing of trying to give a name to every "type" of person. Each person is a very particular individual, so each person is just that: I am just Guaporense. I guess it fits the Japanese collectivistic mentality to group people together with labels.

because my view on almost every film is from an acceptance, religion or psychological view...

some of the films you never seen... Valhalla Rising, Sauna, Adams Apples, The Priest of Evil and The Wicker Man all deal with religion both paganism and christianity... this is what drew me to the films.... even The Physician touched on religion...

Beauty and the Beast.. the story is about acceptance... as is Adams Apples..

Salo, A Clockwork Orange, and a few of the others.. deal with the psychological views of the mind...

These are things I am interested in... I will analyze every film I watch for something that has to do with these topics because they are interesting to me...

It has nothing to do with men.... unless you are referring to "Humans" as "Man".. then maybe yes...

So, what if someone had a bunch of silent film (era) movies in their list?

That's the thing about movies (and that's why I have such a problem with "favorite" or "best" lists) - I can pick ten (or twenty) favorites or "best films ever made" from every era.

as can I.... except for certain decade like the 1950s where Im not a fan of the cinema... I like some but very few...

Same here, I can't think of too many off the top of my head (unlike with the 60's or 70's).

Although now that I started thinking about it I went through a phase not to long ago of watching (and really enjoying) the sci-fi movies of the 50's.

A few years back TCM had a B-movie sci-fi night (I think it was Wednesday for some reason). I miss that because I'd usually find one I never saw before.

The whole thread is pretty silly. No two people have the same taste in movies.

I think there are some timeless films that are old. And some that didn't age as well. Robocop and superman are dated

SilentVamp --

You don't leave anybody behind. Glory focuses on black people who fought in the Civil War, told from the point of view of a white man. Since I know you're not black, you are like that white man. You believe in letting the voices of those not always heard be heard. Also, you see life as a war field. The war is still going on for all of us in your eyes. Life is a war, no matter the situation, and you deserve some glory from it. As do all the people you love.

Beauty and the Beast, the Disney cartoon, continues your theme of embracing those who are more unloved and left behind. You are like Belle, looking to dance with the outsider. You truly follow your heart no matter where it goes.

And you believe that everyone must be trained for the war zone, thus your #3 film is The Empire Strikes Back, where we find Yoda training Luke Skywalker. In Glory, you showed your appreciation for the black man and people who've had to face hardships. In The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader is the black man. And it is here that you show even more sympathy for the "bad" man -- the bad guy could be your own father. This is where Luke learns that he has a personal connection to the dark side, that he is not so white himself. And -- he sympathizes. He calls out for his father at the end of the movie while resting. You know that the outcast could be the closest person in your own life. It could even be you.

The Big Parade continues the theme of war and assimilation. A rich guy joins the army and befriends two working class men.

Field of Dreams is the war field again. Getting the glory. Build it and they will come! I see it's about (I haven't really watched this thing) a trouble relationship with a father, also. Maybe you have a troubled relationship with either your father or your mother. Just like the troubled child/parent relationship of The Empire Strikes Back. Anyway, this is optimistic of you. You believe dreams can come true, that goals can be reached.

Amadeus continues the theme of reaching your goals, as well as child/parent issues (Mozart's father was in the movie), and you probably sympathized with Salieri and the way people looked over him and didn't care about him, while Mozart got all the attention. And -- optimistically -- Salieri got some of his own recognition in the end thanks to this movie. He even drove his rival, Mozart, to his death!

West Side Story is just the Civil War in a blue-collar neighborhood.

Goodfellas -- the lower on the list we get, the more we get into the deepest recesses of your unconscious, your deepest self, your animal self. We're starting to see your brutality and aggression. She is a gangster when it comes to her own personal war field. This is why she says if you do her wrong, she'll never speak to you again. She is a gangster.

The Assassination of Jesse James -- more gangsters. More aggression. More blood. More Civil War-like situations.

And finally -- Young Frankenstein. Well, the ultimate outcast is obviously Frankenstein. He's undead! Missy, I think your love for the outsider is probably because you're one yourself. You are a Young Frankenstein. Just like you can also be a SilentVamp -- a vampiress, perhaps?

This is an optimistic, deeply caring woman who's not stupid about the brutal, chaotic, largely uncaring world that she finds herself in.

I actually did watch that 1946 Beauty and the Beast on your recommendation, MovieGal.

I can't say I liked it...

Beast was a pretty big dick to coerce Belle into marriage when they don't even know each other and then guilting her into sticking around, but I guess it helps that Belle's a furry.

One thing's for sure, I can't get Beast's rolling Ls, any time he says Belle's name, out of my head now.

Isnt that the point of the Beast.. he was a conceited young man who thought the world should bent to his every whim... And Belle.. she was one to give it all... thats the point of the film.. her "willingness" to accept him even though he was that way and through that they fell in love and made his heart open and transformed to a human again...

Also if you watch other films by Jean Cocteau.. you will obviously know his works if you see any more after that...

When I decided to become a director the first task I set before myself was to watch all of the famous movies I had heard of but never seen.

Interesting you put "willingness" in quotes. There didn't seem to be much development in their relationship. Not like there was much of any in Metropolis, but at least Freder and Maria had a shared interest and moral outlook.

Miss Vicky --

I know Miss Vicky is the author of an unpublished book that deals with homosexuals, so it's not too surprising that her favorite movie is Quills, a movie that deals with a very famous writer who wrote about taboo subjects and things. For his time, at least. In the poster for Quills, we see Geoffrey Rush embracing his young love interest, Kate Winslet. Miss Vicky has an attraction to guys like this. A kinship with the bold and the provocative. The man of the dark. The phantom of the opera.

Going to her next movie, Gladiator, a movie I have not seen, let's note that her avatar is Joaquin Phoenix from this movie. Wasn't he supposed to be the bad guy? Here she is fascinated by another cruel and sadistic mind.

Stepping to the next movie, The Big Lebowski, a film I loathe... I suspect she also feels a kinship with these male characters. In fact, men have always been a big issue with Miss Vicky. I've noted how in song tournaments, she tends to diss the female singers. Of course I've also heard that once a week, Miss Vicky likes to go bowling. I suspect one reason she bowls is to further her attachment to this kinship with the Big Lebowski men. She likes these attachments -- just like how Geoffrey Rush and Kate Winslet look rather attached in their own poster. Just like how JayDee is Miss Vicky's personal slave -- she needs men to be leashed to her somehow.

We start to explore the animal side to Miss Vicky in Up, when the attachment also includes a dog. The poster features a young Asian boy sitting on top of an older man, with a dog beside them. Russell is symbolic of Miss Vicky, attached to an older gentleman for companionship. She must have a thing for older men -- or, at least, mature, intelligent men.

More companionship in Ratatouille, with several characters on the poster and a mouse. This and Up are childlike, bright and happy, suggesting happiness and optimism.

Going further, more attachment -- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind -- AGAIN -- Kate Winslet. Kate Winslet attached/beside Jim Carrey. She must have a deep psychological connection to Kate Winslet. I know she likes Leonardo DiCaprio -- that may be why -- the Titanic connection, even though she doesn't have Titanic here. She sees herself in Kate Winslet and it may even be a romantic interest since I've heard she's slightly bisexual. In fact, this bisexuality may even be stronger than she thinks, since Kate Winslet is featured very prominently on the Quills cover. Will she eventually fall in love with a woman? I would not be surprised.

But another thing I think about Miss Vicky -- and I've thought this even without looking at these movies -- is there's a genderless aspect to her. Kinda like David Bowie. I've always felt she's identified more with men than women. That she might even feel more male more often than female. Bubba Ho-Tep, with the strong Elvis Presley central character, could represent her more independent male side. This guy could be on the Big Lebowski bowling league and he wouldn't look strange.

Mary and Max. I still haven't seen this movie. But this movie title again brings up attachment, but it also brings up a male & female both gender issue. Is Miss Vicky both Mary and Max?

The question of identity continues rather chaotically in Being John Malkovich, a movie title that seems to ponder the issue of being a man. The poster features what appears to be hundreds of people, each holding up a John Malkovich face, each questioning their identity, each thinking about what it would be like to present themselves to the world as a man.

The ultimate identity issue movie is her final one -- Hedwig and the Angry Inch. This movie deals strongly about trying to find out what gender you are and who you are. If you have your penis cut off, but you're left with a one inch mound of flesh, does that make you a woman or a man? Miss Vicky, our resident bitch, is "angry" on a deep level about this whole vexing issue of hers.

I think Miss Vicky's very attached to the idea of being a man in some way. We NEVER see her try on avatars of women. I once gave her avatar of the Asian lady from Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and she felt uncomfortable using it. Miss Vicky has a man's soul and the whole issue makes her a little pissed off. She, like Hedwig, does not have a penis attached to her, and she really wants one. Either her own or someone else's.

Also of note is that the bowling balls of Big Lebowski could represent testicles (balls). Next to that, Up, the title, could even signify an erection. There's secret male genitalia hidden in Miss Vicky's Top 10. There's even another phallic reference in Ratatouille with the chef holding a spatula in his hand.

Gladiator is a great movie, SC (not according to hk, but what does he know).

There may be some truth to your assessment, but I can't say I've ever wanted to be a man or questioned my gender identity. Also can't say I have any real connection to Kate Winslet. I think she's a talented actress (and has a great rack) but mostly she just happens to be in a lot of good movies. Also the fact that I love bowling is one of the reasons I love The Big Lebowski, not the other way around.

As to the Pixar stuff: I like cute things and I like funny things and both of those films are cute and funny. I actually don't like dogs (but I do love Dug), though of course I adore rats.

Very nice choice in banner. A lot more subtext there than Sexy Celebrity knows...

Well... since you said that, it means you had it unconsciously on your mind. Your dick is in the popcorn.
*laughs* Brilliant.

My profile banner doesn't hide any personal sexual desires in it. It just directly shows them.
Judge Judy? OH WAIT.

Oh, I love you!!! I swear with each passing day I love you just a tad bit more. :D This was not only very entertaining, but it was pretty damn accurate. Thank you for that!

She is a gangster.
Damn straight.

I feel pretty bad that SCs big write up on Vamp that i couldn't be bothered reading has been pushed a page back .
 Well, you could read it now. It is right up there in this post to read. :D

You seem to be a very easy-going guy and you seem to like everything.

So I'll say you taste in movies is "eclectic."

Your top ten is very Hollywood. I can't see one film not in the English language. Are all 10 produced in the same city? (L.A.) ?

That said I know your passion for film and spending time and money on physical copies of film, so it's not really a negative. Those just happen to be your favourites. And there are some incredible films amongst them :fire:
