"The Muppet Show" is another show with a lot of amazing musical moments, but my favorite Elton John "Muppet Show" moment was when he sang "Crocodile Rock". I can't hear that song without picturing him and the singing crocodiles.

I miss watching "The Carol Burnett Show". It was such a great show with an amazing cast and terrific guest stars. This was just one of hundreds of amazing musical moments.
Haven't watched any of The Carol Burnett Show yet but i watched an episode of The Larry Sanders Show the other day that had Carol as a guest and i felt like there was a lot of inside jokes (meaning people who watched Carols show) that i missed out on.

I haven't checked recently, but there used to be a bunch of episodes of "The Carol Burnett Show" on YouTube. If they're still there, you should watch them. It's probably the best musical/variety show ever. Some of the skits with Tim Conway were the best TV moments ever. Especially the times when he would intentionally try to make Harvey Korman laugh.

Sorry, folks, but I had to go back and re-number this list...I was up for most of the night thinking about this list for some reason and I realized that 50 wasn't going to be nearly enough to cover the ground I want to cover here, so forgive my indulgence.

Rocking Rod Stewart nailed this cover of the Otis Redding classic on the Motown 25th Anniversary Special. Forgive the poor quality of the tape, it's the best I could find...love that whistling finale.

Carol Burnett is a great singer, but she pales in comparison to Julie Andrews. (But so does almost every other singer. Julie Andrews has such an amazing voice that I don't think anyone sounds as good as her.)
But I can sit and listen to Carol Burnett and Julie Andrews sing together all day.

"Steam Heat", The Mary Tyler Moore Show
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVrC6o9sEcU
Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore) was put in charge of entertainment for the Teddy Awards and found it in a very unlikely source in Ted Baxter's girlfriend Georgette (Georgia Engel)...I was thrilled when I found this on You Tube because I really didn't expect to, but I really wanted to include this on this list because I think this was a musical moment on television that NOBODY saw coming. Engel nails this number from the Broadway musical The Pajama Game.

"Guilty", Barbra Streisand: One Voice
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPlR6CwjPB8
Back in 1984, Barbra Streisand did a live concert from her very own backyard and had it broadcast for HBO. It was the first time she had sung in public in 20 years, charged $5000 a ticket and all the proceeds went to nuclear disarmament, a subject Barbra is passionate about made clear during this concert, but when she did stop talking and start singing, it was something pretty special and this number was one of the highlights for me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o29p7UcOY9I
After his dancing film debut in the 1977 film The Turning Point, Mikhail Baryshnikov was Hollywood's "it" guy and was seen everywhere, including this CBS television special (sponsored by IBM!) with Liza Minnelli as his guest star and in 1977 there was only Broadway show whose finale was appropriate for a show like this.

Jane Lynch, who didn't get to do a lot of singing on Glee, nailed this classic number from the Broadway musical Annie, which might have had something to do with her playing Miss Hannigan in the last revival of the musical on Broadway.

I loved "Smash", and I was so upset when it was cancelled. I even nominated one of the songs from "Smash" in the current song tournament, (and it made it through to round 2. :))

Carol Burnett once stated in an interview that she only likes to sing when she's playing a specific character or when she's singing with someone and this medley with Sammy Davis Jr. had to be fun for her...I think it really shows how underrated Burnett has always been as a singer.

There are a whole lot of possible honorable mentions here, but I am going to skip them because it's time to wrap this up...just a reminder, that this is my opinion and my opinion only...and now, my #1 favorite television musical moment:

"Get Happy/Happy Days are Here Again", The Judy Garland Show
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFVxX3RtyhQ
This was historic musical variety television featuring two musical legends...one near the beginning of her career and one near the end. Probably the first medley or mash up ever done on a variety show utilizing two of the singers' greatest hits and if you watch Garland as the duet progresses, you can see in her eyes and her body language that she feels like she's bitten off more than she can chew and that she might be a little outclassed here, but it was a great musical moment on television nonetheless.
I hope you enjoyed the list.
