Welcome everybody to the B-Movie Hall of Fame!
B-mov·ie
noun
a low-budget movie, especially (formerly) one made for use as a companion to the main attraction in a double feature.
All of the normal Hall of fame rules apply. Nominate a movie, watch all of the movies nominated, then send me a list. If you do not send me a list by the designated deadline, your movie will be disqualified and is no longer eligible.
I will be adding another rule for this specific HoF, and it's that the film must have a rating lower than 6 on IMDb. This rule is simply here to prevent joke answers, and confirm that only B-Movies will be nominated since there is no other way of determining. All B-Movies will apply! Low budget, creature features, so bad they're good movies, anything you want!
The rating system for this HoF will be different too. Instead of putting the best movies at the top of your list, you should do the exact opposite. Put the films that you had the most fun watching at the top of your list, quality should be something you don't want your nominee to have.
The nominations will be revealed Dec. 27th. Have Fun!

You will have until March 6th to watch all the films and send in your list. That is eight weeks for seven relatively short movies. Let me know sooner rather than later if you need extra time.

This is right up my alley, I'd be down if it's alright.
This looks interesting, but to be honest I'm a little hazy on where the line is drawn between a b-movie and regular movie.
Here are my recommendations, but I'm not sure if they all qualify. I won't enter myself, but I might poke my head in a bit.
Planet of the Vampires (1965)
The Streetfighter (1974)
Sister Street Fighter (1974)
Dragon Princess (1976)
Karate Bullfighter (1975)
Karate for Life (1976)
Karate Bearfighter (1977)
High Kick Girl (2009)
Rica (1972)
Female Convict 701: Scorpion (1972)
Death Race 2000 (1975)
Mean Guns (1997)
Nemesis (1992)
Honestly of those though, if I had to pick one I think it would be High Kick Girl.
http://www.dvd-covers.org/d/95640-3/High_Kick_Girl_-_English_f.jpg
I think of the ones I listed it's the most qualified. It's got that super cheesy low budget cinematography and talentless actors, but in spite of that it's actually not that bad and has some pretty decent martial arts. It's actually quite charming.
Mean Guns is so bad it's good, but I don't think it's actually low budget even though it's probably a lot worse than a lot of b-movies.

AboveTheClouds
12-17-15, 11:17 PM
Lol, other choice it is.
Well, a post-modernist once told me that 1+1 could equal 3 if 1=1.5. So if 1+1=3, and 3+3=6, then 6=1+1+1+1, so 6.2 = 4.2, and 4.2<6. So that means 6.2<6.
So you're set.

I only really did that to insure that all the movies nominated would be hilariously bad, and the rule is pretty lenient anyways. A film has already been accepted that has a 6.2.

If they couldn't deal with it, they shouldn't have joined a horror HOF. And if it's the Sci-Fi/Horror HoF, I already spoke my mind about that, mixing the genre's was a mistake. As one fan of brutal/****ed up/disgusting stuff to another, F*$k 'em.

Humanoids from the Deep
This was my own nomination; I hadn't seen it in a few years, but I remembered it fairly well, especially the crazy last 20 minutes. AKA Monster, which was the title that flashed on the screen during the opening credits, this movie would qualify as a creature feature. You basically have these large mutated fish creatures that come on shore to kill the men and rape the women, in order to mate. They certainly have good taste in women, and the movie has plenty of violence, nudity, and cheese.*
Verdict: good

I was caught off guard when I saw that this was directed by 7 different directors, but it works well with each being responsible for a different segment. Richard Moll, who I never would have recognized on my own, is a hoot as the villain, and the other two actors also do a nice job with the cheesy dialogue. One thing that I liked was that the movie almost constantly reminded me of scenes from other movies. This would normally be a bad thing, but it worked well with this movie. I enjoyed watching this.
Verdict: A bad movie, but a good nomination

I had a blast watching this. I haven't watched a b-movie in more time than I'd like to admit, so it was a refreshing and nostalgic watch. On top of that I watched it with my buddy, someone who really gets into movies while watching them. He had read about the rape scenes, so we constantly wondered who would get raped by the humanoids while watching. It's a great movie to watch with people, especially if they're into movies like this. Really good nomination.

Monsters (Humanoids From The Deep)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f8/Humanoids_from_the_deep.jpg
Some movies have great posters, this film has a great poster. Just the right amount of sexiness from the female, the right amount of horror from the ominous eyes preying on her and the right amount of cheese with that tagline. Lets not get ahead of ourselves though, the poster is a lot better than what the movie delivers, but the film is still fun in its own awful way.
For starters, it nails the b-movie trash genre perfectly. Bad costumes and gore effects, even though this is where all the money went. Bad ADR which fits right at home with every other b-movie. Thrown in sex scenes and naked women, this film has that in spades. What it also decides to throw into the mix is a lot of animal deaths and a weird unfinished subplot involving land dispute between the locals and the natives. I could have done without the dog deaths, even as cheesy as they were and what was the purpose of introducing the land dispute and not finish it off? We get that there is tension between the Natives and some of the locals, but give it a conclusion.
A lot of redundant shots, close ups of someone aiming down the barrel of a gun, close up of the chest on the humanoid getting shot. Why no head shots? Was it out of their budget range?
I laughed a lot during this film, which was fun. This is a comedy.
Fits the theme perfectly, great nomination.

High Kick Girl! (2009)
(Recommended by Zotis)
http://asianwiki.com/images/c/c7/Highkick_Girl-0001.jpg
I'm not much into martial arts films so I wasn't planning on liking this. Not much of a story as a teen girl wants to become a better fighter. It's just an excuse for a nonstop barrage of fight scenes, mostly inside a gym setting. The girl is pretty good; she's cute and has personality. One thing they did a lot that I got a laugh out of, was to replay in slow motion different parts of the fights, immediately after they happened. High Kick Girl is completely devoid of blood and nudity, not good for a B movie, but it is amusing in a cheesy sort of way.
Verdict: Fair
Yeah, there's not so much as a bloody nose or split lip. They don't even use bruise make-up.

This was exactly the kind of movie I was hoping would be nominated for the HoF. The film is about a martial arts rock band who get into trouble with motorcycle cocaine ninjas. The film was completely insane from start to finish, and every second was hilarious. The acting was terrible, the story was horrendous, and the result was incredible. This movie also probably has the greatest 80s soundtrack of all time. I will definitely be nominating the song Friends (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R43dYg_Kuc0) in the next Song Tournament.

I was a teenager in the 80's working at Video Hot Spot. I got fired because I wouldn't stop recommending this movie to families. Luckily, I got another job down the street at One Stop Video. This used to be one of my favorite movies back then. I don't feel the same way about it now, but I got a huge kick out of watching it again. It really is a one of a kind, and it has everything you could ask for in one of these movies.
Verdict: Good
That is such a good story Cricket. It reminds me of a guy I knew who worked at Blockbuster Video. He would literally tell customers to watch the movie they were going to rent online, and he'd give them the specific url and instructions. Like a month later Blockbuster went out of business.

Well this does fit the bill, though in a different mold. While Humanoids was more of a creature feature, this is a gore film. So certain things are not really that high in priority. Like acting and realistic dialogue. But the guy playing the villain Ramses was kinda over the top in a fun way. And half the characters are idiots! This kinds of flicks are more to shock and gross out the audience. And there are plenty of those kinds of scenes. Ranging from kinda tame to blood filled. And while I have seen more violent and gory scenes in flicks like The Evil Dead, this still has plenty of blood for those who like those practical kind of effects. But they are of a much lower quality then other horror movies. But some of the lines are unintentionally funny. But I admit I am not a big fan.

Hilarious cheesy acting, violence, and nudity, Humanoids was an ideal horror b-movie. Monsters were killing people left, right, and center. Attractive women were getting raped by monsters, the town was burning, it was total chaos. I had a fun time watching it. I wish a few characters had been made at least a little better use of, but overall it was pretty entertaining.

First time watching this movie, and it is one that I was always interested in. I'm not a big fan of ghost stories in general, but this film's setting makes it standout from the average ghost story in a house. The crew heading out to the ship gives the movie a little bit of an adventurous feeling, so that and the ship itself were big pluses for me. The beginning of the movie is awesome and sick, it doesn't drag, and then it has a nice ending. Plenty of gore scenes that were very well done, and a nice atmosphere. I also loved the heavy metal touch in a few scenes. I don't think I would consider Ghost Ship as a B movie, but I watched it in the same way, meaning without a critical eye, and I enjoyed it a lot.

This is a movie I enjoy quite a bit. I am not sure how much others will like it, but I think it is a very good low budget vigilante exploitation movie. The premise has been seen and done before. Hell, change a few things around and you basically have the origin of the friggen Punisher. And while Death Wish is probably the best formula for Vigilante exploitation movies, I think The Exterminator was a lot sleazier.
And it was also the first movie I could think that I really liked and could nominate due to the below 6.0 on IMDB rule, otherwise I would have nominated Vice Squad.

This was the nomination I was most looking forward to. I remember how bad I wanted to see it when it came out, but I was only 9 and had no way to do so. I finally watched it at some point in my late teens, and I could remember not liking it that much, but I could not remember anything about the movie, or why I had felt that way. It's a movie that I always wanted to watch again. I think it's the perfect B movie, because the way it's filmed only accentuates the depravity of what's on screen. If this was some slick production, it wouldn't work nearly as well. The movie works as a nasty exploitation flick, but it also feels fairly realistic. This movie kicks ass!
Verdict: Very good
On a side note, there's a decapitation early on in the movie. What's freaky about this, is that not long after, John Landis was filming The Twilight Zone on the exact same set. A horrifying accident occured that decapitated actor Vic Morrow, and also took the lives of two young girls. Believe it or not, footage from this accident can be found on YouTube.

"We gotta get the **** off this boat!"
I found myself wondering if this was literal because the boat was on fire and they were going to perish, or does that statement somehow foreshadow the events in the rest of the film?
Actually the movie itself was pretty good and I did enjoy it(But I love this kind of thing) The creatures struck me as a combo of The Creature from the Black Lagoon and the aliens from Mars attacks stuck in a ghillie suit. At times a cautionary tale of youth gone (not so) wild, loved the part where the dude copped a feel before he got his day ruined, him swimming after is too good. Throw a good helping of 80's babes with feathered hair and that au naturel look, crazy bloodthirsty monsters, cheesy innuendos ("Wanna see my woodpecker?" "Will I get splinters?") and secluded locales and the formula is complete.
At times though a bit too formulaic perhaps, I found myself switching tabs while just listening to it at times, whenever I thought I heard something good I'd rewind it and make sure I caught what I missed, but it was never anything I'd have missed too badly. I also found that this film made heavy use of the psycho shower scene music, which I find minimally jarring. Loved the scene where the naked chick ran into the waiting arms of our titular fiend. I will for sure be watching this again
Will hopefully watch Ghost Ship tonight. I'm not sure how it's a b-movie, but whatever.

Ok, I am just mildly biased when it comes to this film, or just about anything Troma has released. Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz are total bosses who've always done things their way, be it creating films that are just plain off the wall, re-dubbing European b-movie's with a whole new tromariffic script and voice acting, or just creating some of the most iconic films and characters in all of b-movie horror/softcore/comedy history, I love Troma.(Yes I own a few Troma films, Maniac Nurses Find Ecstacy, Eve's Beach Party, Surf Nazi's Must Die, Poultrygeist, Class of Nuke'Em High, Tromeo and Juliet and a few others)
The Toxic Avenger is in my opinion Troma's flagship series(Class of Nuke'em High, close behind) and the first one in the series is an absolute classic. Enter Melvin janitor at the local health club he is 98lbs of solid dork, he doesn't fit in with the hard bodied teenagers that hang out around the facilities, and they make no qualms with putting Melvin into what they believe is his place. After being tricked by one of the girls into believing they are gonna get dirty, he is dressed in a tutu and chased from the building, falling out a second story window into a truck of toxic waste that just so happens to be there. Well, Melvin goes from skinny weakling to The Toxic Avenger, basically the most badass tutu toting super hero of all time, he can beat your ass with a single bash, club you down before you frown, basically he's a beast. And if you act like a dick anywhere near Tromaville, I'm sure you'll find yourself face to face with THE TOXIC AVENGER ger ger ger ger...

I LOVE TROMA SO MUCH. I remember when I was a kid there was a tv game show that offered you the chance to go to Troma studios in NY and meet Lloyd Kaufman and have a cameo in one of their films. I believe this was like 15-20 years ago so I would not quite have been able to go. I was always so jealous.
If you guys haven't seen them, please watch Class of Nuke'em High, Maniac Nurses find Ecstasy, Mothers Day, Poultrygeist, Rabid Grannies and Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD

I've never really liked Troma much. It's like Jackass compared to Dirty Sanchez (DS being 'proper'/serious' B-movies). I really liked Space Zombie Bingo. But I think I'm right in saying that was an independent film which Troma then bought the rights to.

I believe you are correct, Troma have been buying and distributing under their banner for the last 30 years at least, a few of their more well known movies are actually just that.

So far, this is the one I've enjoyed the least, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit, I just found the scenes I was really enjoying were a little few and far between. But the concept of Magic vs Technology is actually pretty cool, and I can't say it's poorly exectuted as the technology that the film purports to be advanced for it's time seems plausible. Also the main characters girlfriend is kind of cute. The stream link didn't work so I had to download it, and I think I'm actually going to keep it to view again at a later date.

Ghost Ship
1
I remember seeing this in theaters with some friends when I was in grade 9 or 10. And all I really remembered was the beginning and how after watching all the people on deck except the little girl, get basically halved by the wire, which kind of now makes me think about the Omen remake where the guy gets decapitated near the climax, I have no idea why lol /offtrack. Me and my friends started laughing our asses off because of the cheese factor, now usually this behaviour would have made us enemies, but to be honest I don't really remember anyone else in the theater, and after that I don't really remember anyone talking about this movie in more than passing reference, it was just mediocre and was left for the annals of time.
Honestly, the plot could be worked into something alright, but all I ended up thinking of the entire time I was watching this was "Why the hell would they even go on the damn boat in the first place, to hell with the profit, the creep factor is too great" but oh well.. But the acting in this movie is what kind of bugs me the most, I found a few performances came across as less than genuine, and you can see through them like saran wrap, it's like they have a hard time trying to be natural and show the emotions necessary to act in these situations, I know B-Movies don't usually have the best acting, but dammit they usually have heart.
After we see the salvage crew lose their only means of transportation and be physically and mentally assailed for what seems like weeks we are privvy to some history of the ill fated vessel and thrust into what seems like flashback/hallucination hell with what I believe is a sexy lounge singer and backup band, a Marilyn Manson song, what looks like an MP40, crates of gold bars, fancy sports cars of the era and subsequently people being shot up..
KABOOM the boat goes down and now all we see is the souls of those who perished swimming towards the surface, so they may reach heaven, and boy do they.. en masse. Our lone survivor floats among the wreckage of the vessel (or the movie, I can't decide which). She is eventually rescued and taken back to shore, were it seems the madness does not end quite yet...
Credits roll, and so should've heads for making this damned movie in the first place.

I have always been interested in Troma, but never actually gave them a chance. I thought this film was hilarious, and Troma is very good at what they do. That being said, I do enjoy movies like Miami Connection or Hard Ticket to Hawaii much more that this, even though this film is higher quality. I guess it is just that with those movies, you can see people trying and failing to make a good film, but with Troma, you see people trying to make a bad film. That being said I still enjoyed the movie very much, and would recommend it to anyone with a sick taste of humor.

Yeah I have been here for 11 years, started posting as Animal_Mother, then switched too Electric_Wizard, Yoda was nice enough when I made an intro thread to amalgamate my accounts into this one, I got a snazzy new name, but serious history;).
When I started posting here I was in High school and on track for university, but decided to take a year off to pursue study in the areas of women, parties and loud music. After a year or so I was offered an opportunity to work with family in underground infrastructure(I was a tunnel rat) I ended up making good money, travelling around the country doing work just about everywhere. Now I am waiting for work to return to normal, but I think I'm finally going to use some of the cash I've saved for an education. Crawling around in this sucks ass guys, believe me.
Basically we put things like this
http://www.pbcsd.org/photogallery/ForestLakePhoto86August05.jpg
Into the ground, to make way for pipe like this
http://www.southlandpipe.net/Steel_Pipe_Pictures/Bare_Casing_Pipes.jpg(We do pipe anywhere from 12 inch to 101 inch in diameter. And sometimes you have to hand tunnel with picks and jack hammers if the rock is too dense to cut through. Back in October we spent 3 weeks hand tunneling 40 feet, because there was a huge vein of super hard rock that deflected the pipe going into the ground, and we had to hand tunnel one side out, and pack the stuff we took out into the outside of the pipe to stabilize it. This pipe was 36" in diameter. I'm 6'3ish? it sucked. But sometimes it's easy like this, and thats easy money.
http://www.bor-it.com/1.jpg
Push the pipe in, lower pipe, fit pipe, weld pipe, repeat. Mind you it can take 12 hours to even get a few feet. The worst I ever saw was 2.4 feet in roughly 12 hours.

Hard Ticket To Hawaii: 4
"Just when you thought it was safe to take a pee", Hard Ticket To Hawaii is a fun movie. It's my favorite kind of B-movie: incoherently plotted, over the top in its action, and featuring a great score led by a catchy theme song, along with bloods, boobs, and ridiculous quotes ("n****** go long, white guys hold them back" is my co-favorite with "I'm supposed to be soft. I'm a woman"). I also got to see a man killed by a frisbee, so that happened. Ridiculous in the best way.

It's always a good move for a movie to have an abundance of topless blondes, but I had a lingering question for the first hour; how come none of these hos go bottomless? We finally get an ass shot but they forgot the floorcam. It's a crap movie, as expected, but there's fun to be had. Did anyone else notice that they were stealing lines from previous movies? I thought that was a nice touch. Lol at the snake, theme song, and much more.

All of the good and bad qualities you would hope for and expect from a movie like this. The bad dialogue is a standout, while the fight choreography and music is some of the worst I've ever seen, but of course in a good way. A lot of priceless facial expressions as well. Consistently fun from start to finish.

Ghost Ship - 0.5
There are movies I dislike for various reasons but I can still appreciate them for at least trying to be unique or interesting. The worst offense a filmmaker can make is to be entirely dull and without any artistic merit. That's exactly what this movie is. I champion even, say, Ed Wood Jr's work more than this film - at least he was going for something. At least his films are interesting and peculiar. There's nothing to this film. It's boring and full of cliches. I had a hard time getting through it. Sorry Derek.

Ghost Ship
To not waste my time, this was awful. I will ALWAYS give a B movie a pass if it at least has originality and effort, regardless of how well it turned out. Ghost Ship has none of either. Also not a B-movie. It had a 20M budget and got a wide release. It bombed because people hated it. Which they should.

I am not going to deny someone their guilty pleasure. Hell my favorite guilty pleasure is Rock of Ages. And that movie is awful! But the thing about this flick is while I can see this being a guilty pleasure, it is not really a B movie. It does not really have that over the top, cheap, and or cheesy feel. Now that being said the movie had some high points. I thought the main villain was kinda cool. Basically an evil Charon. But there is a lot of con's. While many a bad movie have terrible acting, when it can be forgiven is usually when they are from inexperienced acting or are going for over the top. This flick has legit actors who can give great performances, but are either phoning it in, or just have horrible direction. I mean we have Gabriel Byrne, a pre Dredd Karl Urban, and a post ER Julianna Margulies. And while their is some nudity, there is not nearly enough by B movie standards. Does not really do much for me. Sorry Derek.

Blood Feast(1963)
Director: Herschell Gordon Lewis
Starring: Mal Arnold and Connie Mason.
So I watched this with my friend the other day and I couldn't believe that he actually really enjoyed it, which was a pleasant surprise because he's one of those people that only really likes modern horror. I remember having seen the second one first in 2002, but not until about five years ago had I watched the original, and honestly I immediately enjoyed it more than the second.
I find the plot of this film is actually quite inventive and even more so for its time, the resurrection of Ishtar angle works well as a means to an end for the murders Dr Ramses commits(What an a-hole by the way) Also they used and created some decent set, and good gore. I also believe the characters provide an awesome framework for what would eventually be the slasher genre. As this film is often cited as one of if not the first slasher film, the visual effects are well done for the time period. For some reason I really like the score, the ambiance works very well with the overall tone of the film which in itself I find to be quite visceral. However it's not as powerful today in a market where gore is seemingly gold, I think the magic might be lost on certain people, but for anyone who enjoys a classic, that is what it will stay.
Glad you liked it. I agree that the film was quite progressive in many ways.

The Dungeonmaster 3
For whatever it's worth, by favorite part was the beginning scene, which apparently was not part of the original movie. The entire first 10 minutes is people running, but that intro was mysterious and well framed running. I enjoyed a few of the 7 sequences, like the car one at the end, the mistaken murder, and the statue coming to life, but it didn't come together for me. A couple of the segments were dead space, and the rest were predictable and boring. Fun enough to like, but too inconsistent to love.

Filmmaking eclipsed in 1987 with the release of Miami Connection. No film before or since has had the language of cinema so deeply rooted in its being. You think Citizen Kane was a great film? You think Godard challenged cinematic conventions? You think Star Wars was the birth of a new era of cinema? Well, then, you probably haven't seen this film.

What a fun filled sexy movie this was. If I were to pick my favourite film that featured great looking topless women, this one gets my vote.
Throw in a toxic snake. A frisbee blade of death and hilarious one-liners ("You've got a great ass") Hard Ticket is a golden film full of comedic sleaze. Yes, this film is terrible. But in line with this HoF, the terrible quality elevates it. Had there been less topless scenes, I'm sure I would have still enjoyed it, just not as much. :p

Arguably the most famous Troma film and one I watched as a kid. Why my dad let me watch this, I have no idea. I remember feeling a little weird after seeing it. Watching it today, I still have those feelings!!!!
It is "THE" definition of a B-Movie, cult movie, movie so-bad it's good, among others. It's good for how off the wall it is and the film basically put Troma on the map.
However, in my opinion, this film is disqualified for having a rating above 6 on IMDB. For whatever reason, it was accepted. Great addition to the genre and would be a great addition to the HoF....
AboveTheClouds

Are you serious? We had this discussion pages back, it was accepted for the exact reason you stated, it is "THE" definition of B-Movie, it was cleared by the head of the HoF through PM. I gave him an alternate selection but I was allowed to choose it based on the fact that it -is- a B-movie. So Derek's film should be DQ'ed as well because it's clearly not a B-Movie, right?

I will be adding another rule for this specific HoF, and it's that the film must have a rating lower than 6 on IMDb.
Sure, Ghost Ship isn't a B movie, although I only found that out while watching, and being a B movie is somewhat opinion based anyway. There was a set rule with the rating, and The Toxic Avenger never should have been allowed. If this is viewed as a competition, which it is, everyone should have to play by the exact same rules. I didn't make a big deal about it in the beginning, since we're all just having fun. I did make a sarcastic remark because I thought it would never be allowed. The reason it matters is because many of us picked our nominations based on the rating guideline. I know I did. Go by the rules or don't have them. I was going to automatically put the movie last on my list, but then decided not to after watching Ghost Ship.
IMO, we should disqualify all of these except Miami Connection, so it for sure wins. ;)

Not completely though. One of the key defining points of a B-Movie is that it's low-budget. Ghost Ship was not low budget in the least.
I think... and I used to not agree and just say let the participants decide, and it's up to the host so I never fought it, but (and I think you've said something similar in the past) there need to be some sort of guidelines. You can't let the participants choose completely loosely, or you get people who nominate Ghost Ship for a B-Movie Hall of Fame.
I am NOT arguing for disqualifying anything. I don't care. Nope has done a great job running this and I don't want to give him any stress. I am just arguing with cricket cause he's a bastard. :D
