Great pack of records! Particularly New Slaves (Zs' record from this year was good, but didn't scratch New Slaves).

Favorite Bjork, SK, and KB releases as well.

Never got into TMR, but love the occasional Daniel Johnson.

Are you at all a fan of Godspeed You! Black Emperor? I recently listened to F#A#Infinity and it's a masterpiece. The intro to "The Dead Flag Blues" is perfection.

I've also been listening to....

- Some noise music. I got Boris At Last Feedbacker by Boris, recommended by Minio right here on the forum - talk to him about music if you haven't already. Great dude with a great taste in music.

- Ambient. If you dig ambient, check out Eluvium. He's quite good. My favorite ambient musical act is probably Sunn O))), though.

- Most importantly however, experimental electronic. I love electronic music, having always been more into the more experimental stuff. Despite this, I never really explored it substantially. I'm making up for that now. Obviously there's Autechre, probably my favorite musical act ever (well, one of them), but I'm finding - even though they are still quite unusual - compared to acts like Merzbow or Oval they stop seeming quite so peculiar. That's not a put down at all. Autechre is muah.

I recently discovered a very cool subgenre in electronic music. Microsound. Check out Ryoji Ikeda. I like it a lot.

Of course, you might not. You could hate all of what I just mentioned, if you aren't already familiar with them (you seem pretty knowledgable, I wouldn't be surprised). :p But you seem like someone interested in expanding their musical knowledge and appreciation, which I am interested in as well and it's something I respect immensely. I love finding new musical acts that defy the conventions of music as well as excel artistically. That's what I seek in all art, actually.

I haven't listened to GSYBE recently, so I should give them another shot. Post-rock isn't really my favorite so I'm wary. Same with anything labeled ambient. Big fan of Boris. Forgot to put him on here. Autechr and Merzbow are certainly on my list to check out so I should add Oval. I'm guessing you're a /mu/tant?

I'm not, no. Minio got me going to Rate Your Music, which has opened my eyes to a lot of music. Really useful site, I love it.

Can I ask who your favorite artists/genres are?

/mu/ and RYM share a massive userbase. I use the latter more nowadays. Hope they don't ruin it when they redo the site soon.

My favorite genre historically has been hip-hop with some singer-songwriter and electronica or pop thrown in. This past year I branched out into pretty much anything else that caught my ear. I'm pretty open.

What's your RYM profile? I'll add you.

That's cool dude. I have respected hip hop for quite some time, but haven't delved into it. I'm starting to now, though. I recently got Madvillainy by Madvillain, and Aquemini by Outkast. Both great albums, to me. Have any good recs for high quality hip hop albums for me to check out?

I don't have a profile. I just use them to check out lists and see where to start with artist's discographies. Is their logging of stuff you have really **** or was I doing it wrong? I'd kill for a decent Letterboxd alternative for music sort of deal. Hopefully that's what Sonemic is.

Because you like Madvillainy...

MF DOOM, Viktor Vaughn, King Geedorah, etc.
Count D Bass - Dwight Spitz
Aesop Rock - Labor Days
Billy Woods - Dour Candy

Because you like Aquemini...

ATLiens, Stankonia, etc.
Goodie Mobb - Soul Food
Slick Rick - The Great Adventures of Slick Rick
Killer Mike - R.A.P. Music

It's certainly not as easy and intuitive as Letterboxd, but on the flipside I find it more useful for discovering new music than Letterboxd is for discovering new films. Both are great sites, though.

Thanks for the recs, by the way. I definitely need to get R.A.P. Music, considering I'm a fan of RTJ as well.

Ikeda is dope. You should check out the other albums put out by Raster-Noton, there's a lot of similar stuff. In particular IV by Grisha Lichtenberger (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_R3I0BrvqT0) is monumental.

If you're looking for a discovery site, I recommend nodata (even if you don't use the links, it's a great resource to check out some albums to google, it's skewed towards new releases though). I'm also pretty partial to Cerberus on TMT. Neither one is good for discussion of course.

Amazing! Lichtenberger has been added to my wishlist. I'll have to check out more of their releases.

Any site good for keeping track of what I've heard?

I used to listen to a lot of stuff like EYEHATEGOD, Grief, Khanate, Burning Witch, Earth, Sunn O))), Pelican etc. Basically most stuff on Hydrahead and Southern Lord. That Candlemass album is awesome, but I preferred Nightfall. Ever listen to St.Vitus, Pentagram, Goatsnake, Electric Wizard, Witchfinder General or any of the bands I mentioned at first?

Those are a good step if you haven't and you like Doom Metal/Sludge. Funeral/Death Doom are different genres entirely, but if you like that stuff, I could recommend that for you. I basically only listen to Golden Era/Underground Hip Hop, Punk(UK82, Hardcore, 77) and Black/Doom Metal these days. Anything in these genre's I'd be glad to recommend.
