View Full Version : Explain Your Avatar

Thought it'd be a good idea for there to be a topic where we could explain the avatar we're currently using. What's your's?

Mine is a Reaper vampire from Blade II. Love the monstrous design it has which is just plain cool. You can view a larger version here (https://i.ytimg.com/vi/PnVpBrf4NJs/maxresdefault.jpg) but fair warning it's gruesome.

Cheyenne, from Once Upon a Time In The West. Probably one of the coolest characters to ever grace a movie screen.

"You know, Jill, you remind me of my mother. She was the biggest whore in Alameda and the finest woman that ever lived. Whoever my father was - for an hour or for a month - he must have been a happy man."

Rhett Butler
12-01-15, 10:25 PM
Mine is of Timothy Dalton starring as Rhett Butler in Scarlet, the sequel to Gone with the Wind. I'm aware of the franchise because my mother has always loved it. She even has a very accurate-looking "Mammy" doll that has cloth "clothes," including the famous red petticoat, featured in the movie. She loves it. I find it hard to watch GWTW in its entirety and fast-forward through a lot of it. It's not aged well, nor has its sequel(which, itself, is also old). I prefer the Civil War backdrop, in the original: the danger, the excitement of it, as opposed to the aftermath in the years that followed. So, Scarlet is pretty tame, by comparison - it even devotes a quarter of its running time to a trial (!!!). But, for some reason, I prefer Timothy Dalton's portrayal of Rhett Butler. So, there it is, in a nutshell. And here he is ... to view ... to admire. He's tipping his hat at you, in fact - as I surely would, if I could see you, right now.

I think mine's pretty obvious but I do occasionally get asked what it's from.

It's Joaquin Phoenix as the Emperor Commodus from the movie Gladiator. I've had many other avatars - mostly of Joaquin Phoenix - but I've kept this one for quite a long time because I think it suits me really well.

My current avatar is a screencap from The Company of Wolves. It shows Micha Bergese as the Huntsman trying to convince Rosaleen that werewolves are "old wives' tales". The cap is at a very specific moment where the Huntsman says that his compass "brought [him] safe through the wood". What I like is that Bergese widens his eyes after he says it – something of a predatory act that tells us that the character is lying and that he's eager to see if his lies have worked. I love that whole section of the film, and really it's one of my favourite scenes while not being in one of my favourite films.

It's because of the outer glow isn't it? The one you're using has the glow removed so that you can see the outline of the letters without them looking fuzzy.

I have the same problem with good looking pics blurring when they get uploaded to MoFo. I tried over sharpening them and it worked, sometimes. Maybe Rodent knows? I love to hear how to get a sharp avatar? I think it might have to do with file size vs kbs???

James Gandolfini is one of my favorite actors, and The Sopranos is in my top 5 shows ever, with Tony Soprano being at the top of my list for characters from any genre of TV show. He's calm and calculating, but when something rubs him wrong, look the F&*K out. Such a well acted character that it really absorbs you into the story. In terms of fictional mafioso's, he's on a very small list of "Best" as far as i'm concerned

I changed my avatar because I nominated my favorite pop song Miley Cyrus "Wrecking Ball" for one of song tournaments months ago. I think it's swell she poses naked in her video. Christopher Reeve as Superman.

I've been a comic book geek since I was 10.
Superman (1978) was my favorite movie when I was a kid - not hard to imagine why since comic books turned into major motion pictures was not a "thing" at that time. This level of film making for a comic book superhero character, with a young, unknown actor in the lead role was unprecedented!
It's the only movie I ever went to see with just me and my dad.
The avatar is a memorial to the late Chris Reeve and his most memorable role.

My current one is a screencap of the Cyclops from Ulysses 31. In that version of the story it's a giant robot and, as in the myth, Ulysses's killing of the creature condemns him to wander and never return home.

It's a nice, stark colourful picture and it goes well against the background of the site. I quite like it being eye-related :p – when I joined I was using a shot of the Huntsman from The Company of Wolves, which is where "seeing is believing" is quoted from.

I almost changed my avatar recently to a Hitchcock avatar, but I didn't like the way the picture looked when it shrunk down to the smaller size for the avatar, so I decided against it.

So I changed it to this blue rose avatar instead because of the mood I was in at the time, and it was supposed to just be a temporary "filler" avatar for a day or two until I decided what to change it to, but I got several comments and PMs telling me that they liked it, so I'll probably stick with the blue rose for a while.

my avtar is centaur .

from wikipedia---

A centaur, or occasionally hippocentaur, is a mythological creature with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a horse. The centaurs were usually said to have been born of Ixion and Nephele.

i had used it on another forum where my ID was centaur .

interestingly , the word 'avtar' comes from hindu mythology . avtar means human manifestation of god . when evil rises too much on earth , god comes on earth in human form ( avtar ) to cleanse it by fighting the evil people .
