The following are my Top 40 Songs by the greatest pop musician that ever lived, the King of Pop...

MICHAEL JACKSON
http://peacenluvvvmj.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/20120801-151729.jpg

NOTE: The list does not include any songs by The Jacksons, or the Jackson 5. The following songs are from Michael's solo song catalog
40. BEHIND THE MASK
(2010, Michael)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx2ZmhYHxH4
Recorded in the early 80's but not released until after his death, Michael's cover of Behind The Mask is an infectious pop tune.

Ah, but I like that Behind The Mask thing. I like it a lot actually. The best song on the Michael album.

39. YOU ROCK MY WORLD
(2001, Invincible)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-7ABIM2qjU
One of the last timeless classics Michael released in his lifetime. Cool video, in the vein of Smooth Criminal, directed by Brett Ratner, and featuring Marlon Brando, Chris Tucker, and Michael Madsen.

Ehhh. I only like that for Marlon Brando in the music video.

I contemplated a Michael Jackson countdown, but I haven't had the time to get around to starting it. I am really interested to see what you are going to have on yours, though.

I think the best part of "You Rock My World" is how it sounds from 4:10 - 4:30 (and of course the repeat of that same melody a little later on). I actually really didn't mind "Invincible". It wasn't a bad album at all. It is a shame that it didn't get a little better attention. There are some really good songs on there.

38. BAD
(1987, Bad)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iwbFqzHO_U
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdGvGZQqGw4
One of Michael's signature songs, but it's actually one of my least favorite tracks on the Bad album. Great video/short film directed by Martin Scorsese and featuring Wesley Snipes.

37. DANGEROUS
(1991, Dangerous)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmwkJniDMJ8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTPIo9P0SVk
The title track from Michael's 1991 album is a high-octane pop/dance number. I'm surprised it was never officially released as a single, as it would have been another Number 1 hit for Michael, and made for another killer video.

SilentVamp
11-23-15, 05:07 PM
I think I liked "Bad" better when it was first released compared to now. I still enjoy the video, though. That is a classic. I can still remember the big deal that it was with everyone that I knew when it premiered.

"Dangerous" is pretty decent, though.

Bad isn't the best Michael Jackson song, but I think it's WAY better than Dangerous.

(1997, Blood On The Dancefloor: HIStory In The Mix)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmGmQvU4QuA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIRgAGPUtmI
2 of the most awesome, and often overlooked, tracks on the remix album Blood On The Dancefloor are the hard and heavy Morphine, where Michael condemns drugs like morphine and Demerol, that eventually and ironically killed him a decade later, and the slow and funky dance track Superfly Sister.

35. SPEED DEMON
(1987, Bad)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l039y9FaIjc
Michael's 1988 movie Moonwalker wasn't necessarily the best of movies, but it did feature some really cool music videos, including the one where Michael transforms into a motorcycle riding leather jacket wearing rabbit being chased by a bunch of weirdoes.

34. JAM//WHY YOU WANNA TRIP ON ME
(1991, Dangerous)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbHI1yI1Ndk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmY132oPhRk
Dangerous starts off with the funky dance track Jam, which is considered by many to be one of Michael's strongest album openers. The video to the song is famous for featuring basketball legend Michael Jordan teach Michael how to play basketball, as Michael teaches Jordan how to dance. The second track on the Dangerous album, this rather obscure track, where Michael talks to the media about laying off attacking him and instead focus on addressing relevant social issues such as poverty and police brutality has always been one of my fixations when listening to Dangerous. It still sounds great.

33. D.S.
(1995, History: Past, Present and Future, Book 1)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjcwJxmjWVs
One of my favorite tracks on History. the hard rocking dig at Tom Sneddon, the prosecutor during the first child molestation case. The song is just one of many collaborations Michael had with guitarist Slash.

32. BABY BE MINE
(1982, Thriller)

Thriller was a fantastic album. Every track was special. Baby Be Mine was a sweet dance ballad. I've always liked this song.

I love Speed Demon. I almost nominated it for a recent Song Tournament.

Working Day and Night and Baby Be Mine are great.

I have no idea what D.S. sounds like.

Jam is okay. I don't care for Why You Wanna Trip on Me.

I actually really like "Morphine". It was one of those songs that I had to get used to. I was indifferent at first, but the more that I listened to it over the years, the more I liked it.

"Working Day and Night". I love it, but that goes without saying. "Off the Wall" is my favorite album of his, and there isn't one song that I don't like on it.

I love "Speed Demon" and "Baby Be Mine". Two great songs.

30. THRILLER
(1982, Thriller)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOnqjkJTMaA
The short film music video directed by John Landis was revolutionary. The "Making of Thriller" video was my most-watched video growing up. Michael's iconic dancing along with the zombies was imitated by every kid in the 80's including myself. The song itself is great, but not one of top favorites off the Thriller album.

27. I JUST CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU
(1987, Bad)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPSS0B1iemQ
This US Number 1 hit power ballad on the Bad album was intended to be a duet between Michael and Whitney Houston. Instead of Whitney, Siedah Garrett, who wrote Man In The Mirror, ended up singing alongside Michael. The result was fascinating.

26. LIBERIAN GIRL
(1987, Bad)

25. GIVE IN TO ME
(1991, Dangerous)

24. THE GIRL IS MINE
(1982, Thriller)

The first duet with former Beatle Paul McCartney was this fun little pop song featuring both Michael and Paul fighting over a girl.

23. DIRTY DIANA
(1987, Bad)

22. WHO IS IT
(1991, Dangerous)

This is possibly Michael's grooviest song on Dangerous. He wrote the whole song including the music with his mouth. An incredibly dark and brilliant song.

This last set of 10 were pretty good. My personal standouts are:

*I Just Can't Stop Loving You - Such an incredibly strong love ballad

*Liberian Girl

*The Girl Is Mine - I want to tell you what order I would put the 3 duets of theirs in, but I will wait to see if you will even include one more in your list first (and I think you will be including one more :))

*Who Is It - I have always really liked this one. Such a strong beat with good lyrics. A nice, dark song.

*Love Never Felt So Good -This song made me so happy last year. This just screams "old" Michael. It is so clear it is one of his songs from the early 80's. And it was so nice to not only hear a song like this by him again, but to hear a song that sounds like this in general again.

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' is one of my Top 5 favorite Michael Jackson songs. Maybe even my #1 favorite.

Liberian Girl is really good -- and Whoopi Goldberg is in the video. :whoopi:

In the Closet is better than Thriller? You shouldn't even call yourself a Michael Jackson fan.
Was never the biggest fan of Thriller, the song. The video on the other hand is awesome. I have an unexplainable infatuation with In The Closet. I just love that song. And yes more than Thriller.

(1991, Dangerous)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2AitTPI5U0

The jangling guitar played by Slash, the message of harmony between races, the rap part, and that incredible video. Black Or White was one of Michael's singles that had everything good going for it.

16. GOT TO BE THERE
(1972, Got To Be There)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dp2FiFfCNY
Michael's debut solo album Got To Be There in 1972, when he was still a child star, features some of his best work. The title track is a soulful little pop hit song.

15. ROCKIN' ROBIN
(1972, Got To Be There)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2vzTKh-O5c
One of several cover versions on Michael's 1972 debut album, Rockin' Robin was even better than the original version. It's also his first official rock single, peaking at Number 2 on the US Billboard Charts.

14. SCREAM
(1995, History: Past, Present and Future, Book 1)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P4A1K4lXDo
This was the first and last time Michael would have a full-on collaboration with his sister, international superstar Janet. Released as the first single from History in the summer of 1995, the song took the world by storm. It is considered the first time ever that Michael used profanity in the lyrics.

12. DON'T STOP 'TIL YOU GET ENOUGH

Michael's socially and politically charged anthem, speaking about police brutality, racism, and oppression, released in 1995 is probably one of the songs that sounds more relevant today then it did then. The song also resulted in 2 music videos, both directed by legendary filmmaker Spike Lee.

This song, in my opinion, is the best track on Dangerous, and one of Michael's most underrated and brilliant songs. The song was featured on the soundtrack to the 1993 movie Free Willy. I must admit, I get emotional when listening to this gospel-inspired epic, especially the spoken part at the end of the original album version, which has put me to tears many times.

The album Thriller featured many big hits and classics, and the soft rock track Human Nature stands out. The song was written for Michael by famed lyricist John Bettis and Toto band member Steve Porcaro. It's such a stunning song, and definitely one of Michael's most brilliant pieces of work.

Possibly one of his less known songs, but definitely one of his best from his younger solo years, Music And Me is a moving little pop song where Michael sings about how much singing and music mean to him. I first heard this song in the 1988 movie Moonwalker and I fell in love with it immediately.

Yes! I heard that Michael never used his real voice as a grown man in public. He would always talk softly as to maintain his "child-like" voice. His voice sounded deeper back then because it was natural and not forced. Goes to show his amazing vocal range.

I've heard that before -- that his voice actually was much deeper when the cameras weren't on him. I'm not really sure how true that is, though. I should check Youtube to see if there's any alleged videos of him speaking in his real voice.

6. SAY SAY SAY
(1983, Pipes Of Peace by Paul McCartney)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqwnLDdu11Q
By far, the most successful collaboration between Michael and Paul McCartney, Say Say Say was released as a single off of Paul's 1983 album Pipes Of Peace. It's such a brilliantly upbeat and fun pop song, with an even more fun video, too.

I love that song!
I must admit it did not make my Top 40, but it almost did. It is definitely at Number 41

5. ROCK WITH YOU
(1979, Off The Wall)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5X-Mrc2l1d0
This is the best track on Off The Wall. The disco pop classic is amongst Michael's many Number 1 hits and one of the best songs of the 70's.

4. STRANGER IN MOSCOW
(1995, History: Past, Present and Future, Book 1)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEEMi2j6lYE
One of Michael's most overlooked songs, this spine-tingling, haunting, bittersweet, dark, and elusive gem, about loneliness, from the History album is quite simply one of the best and most beautiful, heartfelt, and moving songs Michael had ever written in his entire career.

Written by Siedah Garrett, who ended up singing with Michael on I Just Can't Stop Loving You, this powerful socially-charged anthem about making positive change in the world is quite simply one of the most brilliant songs ever written in history.

Honestly, if you have Beat It, I'm gonna be kinda disappointed. While I like that song, I don't think I'd have it this high.

2. BEAT IT
(1982, Thriller)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRdxUFDoQe0
One of the most phenomenal rock singles of the 80's, Beat It helped in elevating Michael Jackson to international superstardom. The song featured Eddie Van Halen on lead guitar. I've been crazy about this song ever since I was 6. I owned the red zippered jacket and used to dance along to the music video in my living room. But what kid in the 80's didn't?

"Just Good Friends"

Never cared much about this song. Considering it is a duet with Stevie Wonder, the song choice could have been much better and bigger.

I suppose. But over time, I've found it a very memorable, good tune.

I've heard that before -- that his voice actually was much deeper when the cameras weren't on him. I'm not really sure how true that is, though. I should check Youtube to see if there's any alleged videos of him speaking in his real voice.
There are those home videos that I remember seeing not long after he died. His voice is deeper. Not deep, but definitely deeper. They probably have some of those videos on youtube.

This is the Wings version of "Girlfriend":

I think 4 out of the 6 that I listed weren't bad for my guesses. :)

"Rock With You" is my definite #1 song of his.

"Music And Me" is actually in my top 5 of his music. I still say that that song should've been played at his memorial service.

I love "Say, Say, Say". But now that this is done, I will tell you my favorite of their duets. :)

I know it isn't one of those that is universally liked, but I like it. I think one of the major reasons that I do is because of how it shows how perfectly their voices blend together. Especially in that third verse.

The one song that is obscure (well, I guess it would be more obscure if it had never been on that "Michael" album) that I really like is "The Way You Love Me". That version is OK on "Michael", but I much preferred it when I first heard it with that "Ultimate Collection" set.

It never fails that I forget what a bad@$$ he was on stage. The later part of of his life made me forget a lot.

I have fond memories of being in the suicide seat in a Celebrity wagon listening to Dirty Diana...and New Jersey.
