Or is it the stairway to heaven?

Nah, I'm probably going to hell.

Anyway, this is my music thread. Owe it to Derek for pushing me to make it. Thanks buddy.

I have an album review thread but I want a thread to just talk about music. I haven't been posting a lot lately - maybe this will motivate me to post more.

In sixth grade, I remember walking to class and thinking about how pointless music was, and how I really didn't like it. This is despite the nonstop classic rock my dad always played. Maybe I got too burnt out on that stuff at a young age.

Jump forward to just a month or two later. I was on my way home from basketball practice. Dad was driving. He put in a CD he just got. It was a Yes three-disc album that had just come out, full of their most popular songs. That night, that twenty minutes... I never turned back. For the next few months I was obsessed with Yes and Pink Floyd. I got a guitar and started taking lessons.

I owe them everything. Especially Yes for that initial revelation as to what you could do with music.

I'm only mentioning Yes because I just bought and revisited The Yes Album.

I need a Santana album. His first three are stellar. Will get one soon.

You thought music was pointless??? I can't even fathom thinking that at any stage in life.

Great thread though!

Awesome beginning Swan! I don't have that single dramatic moment when I started diving into the world of music, but I think sometime during my middle school days I heard a full-length classic rock songs for one of the first times in my life (my parents are not a fan of rock music, so they didn't play any rock when I was young) and it just escalated from there. Begged for a week to get a snare drum and eventually I got a drum set. And the next thing you know I was jamming.

You will all think music is pointless after you've discovered onkyo.
