100. Duran Duran - Rio (1982) [single]

Has one of the best bass lines to any song i've heard. The whole song is fantasic from start to finish.

Best part: the intro, after the song explodes into the bass and drums.

99. Ozzy Osborne - diary of a mad man (1981)

Has some of the best guitar playing i've heard from a song. The chords feel creepy and eerie but hopeful at the same time.

Best part: the part when the song goes from lush orchestral to heavy guitar playing and back.

98. Pink Floyd - hey you (1980)

Sounds very mysterious yet hopeful.

Best part: after the enigmatic intro ends, the contrasting lyrics begin.

None are my favorite from those artists, but I like all three of those.

97. John lennon - jealous guy (1985)

The only song by John lennon as a solo artist that is truly meaningful to me. While imagine is a great song, it doesn't hold up very well after a while.

Best part: the way he sings "i'm sorry I made you cry."

96. Queen - radio gaga (1984)

The lyrics in this song are stupid, but the chords in this song make me cry, and in a good nostalgic way.

Best part: the keyboard

95. Iron Maiden - hallowed be thy name (1982)

One of the landmark heavy meal songs. This song has nearly everything I like about iron maiden all in one.

Best part: after the intro finishes, and Bruce dickinson holds his note and the guitars start playing.

94. Muse - bliss (2001)

When I first heard this song I was so blown away that I refused to listen to any other song by this band for the longest time.

Best part: the transition from the electronic-y intro to the guitars in the beginning.

93. Red hot chilli peppers - under the bridge (1992)

91. Mario vazquez - gallery

After withdrawing from american idol for personal reasons, vazquez released his debut single gallery in 2006.

Mario sings how he would treat the girl in the song better than her current boyfriend, who regards her as no more than a mere possesion.

90. Eminem - the way I am

Filled with anger, Eminem almost shouts every line into the mic, one of his first many songs on the imperfections of fame.

Telling how he can never go anywhere unnoticed and is now even critized for his popularity.

89. Christina aguilera - keeps getting better

She describes the song of a culmination of all of her persona's throughout her career, she can be the super girl, clean cut image and be all smiles, but she is a serious artist, and is happy to be labelled a bitch,

88. Pharrell williams - happy

Know what's so great about this song? The fact that it's dedicated to just being happy. If you just got the job, kissed the girl, won a holiday - whatever, then that's awesome.

Pharrell is celebrating joy for the sake of joy, so go ahead: shake what you got, and turn that frown upside down.

87. Gnarls Barkley - crazy

Greens soaring, gospel soaked-pipes and mouse's silky skills combine on this 2006 worldwide smash.

86. House of jealous lovers

The punk-funk movement of the early noughties might have lasted only a breath longer than electroclash but there was a time when it ruled the world.

This scuzzy bass, shaoe-shifting disco anthem was the clarion call, add some cowbell and a million handclaps in unison and you get arguably 2003s defining hit.

85. Johnny Cash - hurt

You can't get grimmer than nine inch nails, but cash did in 2002, with his bare bones reading of this NIN heartbreak er.

84. Alan jackson - don't rock the jukebox

Not exactly one of jacksons more pensive moments but still alot of fun.

83. Dixie chicks - am I the only one

The chicks have marvellous taste in covers, such as their devastingly believeable cover of this Maria mckee song.

84. Alan jackson - don't rock the jukebox

Not exactly one of jacksons more pensive moments but still alot of fun.

Two great singers, and two great songs, but neither is my favorite song by either artist.

82. Brooks and Dunn - neon moon

A wonderfully written ballad, with that unforgettable refrain, "watch your broken dreams dance in and out of the besms".

81. Dixie chicks - travellin' soldier

This bittersweet tale of a young girl who's love is killed in Vietnam is one of the chicks finest moments.

80. Lefty frizzell - long black veil

A 1959 hit for the country music icon, and the song most closely associated with his legendry status.

79. Alabama - love in the first degree

This single contains more legal lingo but still manages to be sweet, in a cornball sort of way

78. Toby Keith - get drunk and be some body

Keiths opening from his 2006 white trash with money epitomises a faction of blue collar life - folks who work without reward and find what they need in their friends and their bottles.
