Me, I'm a fan. I've been lucky enough to see two of his paintings in person.
One was in Washington D.C. at our national art museum. I believe it was one of his self portraits. The other was in a private collection that had a rare showing in Seattle. That was one of this peach tree orchid paintings. He did a number of those. Just fascinating to see it there on the wall. There was only a few people that night and so I just stood and soaked up the painting...trying to image what he was thinking & feeling at the time.

Thanks. :) I think I read Elizabeth Taylor owned one. Have you seen Lust For Life? I love it. Never seen any in person, but I hope I will if i ever make it to Paris. I think he's in Musee d'Orsay along with the impressionists now.

I have no idea. They've been on the Internet for years.
He reminds me of Reservoir Dogs, so yeah I guess you can say I love him.

I seen another about Van Gogh's life but it wasn't as good.
I looked it up and this is the exact one I seen in Seattle. Of course this is just a crappy photo and so much detail is lost in this pic.

I liked his work from what I saw in books and Lust for Life, but then I really went crazy for him when I saw "Van Gogh's Van Goghs" at LACMA in 1999. It was an exhibit of 70 paintings on loan from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and it was amazing to see the actual brush strokes up close. Here are some I saw.

Lucky you Mark, 70 Vah Goghs! That would be so cool.
I recognize three of those: Potato Eaters from his early period in Holland. A late, self portrait when he was using the heavy waving lines with thick palette strokes and the ominous, Crows Over Wheat Field. He painted that scene many times in his life but that one there, was the last time he painted it. He shot himself in that very field a few weeks latter.
The skeleton head, wow, I've never seen that before, that's odd it doesn't look like something he would have painted. Very cool to see thanks for posting that.
(if I got those titles wrong forgive me I did that off the top of my head)
Um yes, Van Gogh was an amazing painter. I know little about his life except that he was a bit "off," I believe, but that just makes me like him more. Regardless of who he was as a person, I look at his artwork with awe.

My first love was drawing (age 3-9) and though I didn't like painting, I did love Van Gogh, and was lucky for my parents to buy me a book of his when I was in first grade (as well as Mozart and Ghandi) and was not only fascinated by the paintings, which to me were the first "psychedelic" paintings, but because of the things he did. There was a picture of him buying a bunch of paints, and then finally saying "Oh yeah, and an orange" (for food, but a nice double-entendre). It spoke about his poverty, how he cut off his ear, and then how he shot himself - it was the first time I ever read about anyone killing themselves, and I've been intrigued by suicide.
This is going to sound shameful, but I've been to The Netherlands 6 times, and have never been to anything Van Gogh. I guess I always thought "This is what everyone does, I'll wait til I'm with another fan" although I did go to the Anne Frank Huis (pronounced 'house')

He looks like a cross between Simon Pegg and Vincent Cassel.
But I like many of his paintings.
