So tomorrow I set out for the Eutotunnel en route to France. I will be visiting Switzerland, Italy and for the majority of the time I will be staying in the South of France. I am going to use this thread to talk about my travels and post pictures (and maybe video) for anyone who may be interested.

Cool idea Rhys. I've been to all three places so I'm looking forward to this thread.

Good luck with it, Rhys. I hope the trouble around the tunnel atm doesn't disrupt your travel too much.

So it is currently 9:39 am in the UK and I will be leaving my hometown later this afternoon to catch the Eurotunnel early hours tomorrow.

Rhys
07-30-15, 08:33 PM
I'm currently waiting in line at the Eurotunnel. Displays say that delays are expected however it shouldn't be a problem. I don't mind waiting longer if need be. :)

Rhys
07-30-15, 09:26 PM
Not on yet so we are currently pretty delayed. All is good though.

Rhys
07-30-15, 09:38 PM
We are now making our way onto the train and should be on the way to France soon. :)

Rhys

I am now staying in a hotel for the night near the border of Switzerland, we will not be visiting through to Switzerland yet, nor Italy. We will be heading towards the South of France and coming back up through Italy and Switzerland whilst heading home. This will all take place over the course of the next few weeks.

Rhys

Very soon I will be leaving the hotel located near Geneva to travel down towards to South of France. If all goes to plan I will be staying near Cannes tonight.

Hi there. I'm just on my phone at the moment. I am currently staying 9km off Cannes and will be here for 3 more days. I've just had breakfast and will be soon setting off into Cannes for the day. I'll be taking some photos and uploading them later. :D

Rhys

I'm currently sitting at a beach side restraunt in Cannes after eating some great food. We have brilliant weather! I've got some photos for later (and I've seen some very special handprints! ;))

Rhys

Here are some photos. I have more but the wifi isn't the most convinient here so uploading takes some time and I didn't want to wait too long.

I'm going to Nice today! We will be setting off very soon and I'll be taking pictures! I'm having a great time so far! :)

Rhys
08-04-15, 05:07 AM
Nice was slightly dissapointing and we ended up spending the night back in Cannes. I took no photos in Nice but took more in Cannes. I will be on my way to Monaco soon.

P.S. I'm sunburnt.

Rhys
08-05-15, 05:13 PM
Shoulders hurt but all is good. I am in Italy now.

Monaco was interesting but it was very hot and we didn't stay too long because it required a lot of walking. I don't mind walking but when it is scorching hot and you have sunburn (and a small backpack) it isn't so fun.

We shall be moving up to the north of Italy to arrive at the lakes there. Hopefully my shoulders shall have recovered by then.

Might post some photos soon. :)

It couldn't have involved that much walking. It's not like Monaco is big or anything. :) Looking forward to the pics.

I guess its more the fact it has a big uphill segment and we parked in a lot that is quite high up too. Also and probably most importantly, with it being VERY hot it takes it out of you.

We walked a lot more in Nice and Cannes but it wasnt quite as hot.

Will get some up soon, maybe tonight.

That's true. When it's really hot you don't want to be doing too much. Did you think about walking the GP route?

Rhys

We didn't think about that actually, we were more interested in looking at the big shops in Casino Square (in which we cannot afford anything from!) but we did see a fair bit of the route just by looking around and we ate at a restaurant which is around about the start/stop line. :)

Haha! It has apparently been quite nice in my hometown surprisingly but I'm not sure if you'd want this weather if you're doing much to be fair. We are frequently getting over 30 Celsius daily.

Although the heat probably gets to me more than most.

My mother and grandmother went to the casino there in the 50's. They wouldn't let my granddad in as he was wearing shorts. :D

I am now in Switzerland. I will probably be going back into Italy tomorrow to swim in some more of the Northern lakes (the boarder is very close). Pictures will come tonight if I have time! :)

We had a small thunderstorm yesterday (with some pretty high winds) and one is on its way according to the weather report. At least we won't be caught outside in it this time.

Rhys

Oops, looks like I left this a while.

Just got into the UK yesterday and we are heading home soon. I am currently in Kent near the tunnel at the Holiday Inn Express.

I had a great time! I am home now and I am awaiting the arrival of my girlfriend who has spent nearly a whole month helping communities in Tanzania! She gets into London today and then has to travel up north for another long journey. She will have been traveling for about 24 hours so she will probably be very tired. That's unless she gets a good amount of sleep on the planes or in the taxi!

I figure the people who follow this thread or click here are the people who may care more about this.

It would have been great to hear more about Alex's experience in Africa but she broke up with me the day she got back. This kind of sucked more because the thing I wanted most was to just see her and give her a hug and tell her I missed her. We were very close.

Not to get soppy or whatever.

I'm doing better now and I'm just trying to get back on track. I'm going to push myself to succeed more this year and get more things done. I've applied for an internship at Sheffield Doc/Fest.

Doc/Fest is a Documentary Film Festival.

For those who know me you may know that I volunteered at Doc/Fest this year as I study film in the same city. I will hopefully be doing this next year and the year after that too.

The internship allows me to work within the office in which they organize everything and it helps me to get an inside look into the planning process of a festival. It also gives me some fantastic industry experience that may help paint a path for me that I can really start to follow post-university.

It is my dream to become a cinematographer but I realize that the chances of me becoming one (to earn a living from) is not likely.

Working within the film festival sector would still be a job that I would be very happy with and I feel it is a more realistic goal for me.

I will still try though of course.

Thank you! I'll manage.

I'm trying to make a positive out of it and get myself doing thing I might not have done so immediately if I was with her. A lot of my time was spent with her or talking to her.

When is the Doc/Fest?

Rhys

I'm sure it will. Thank you. :D

June 10-15. I did it this year and will apply for it next year too!

I'm sorry to hear about your girlfriend, but I'm one of those people who believes that if it didn't work out, then it just wasn't meant to be, and there's someone else out there who's the right person for you. You just haven't found her yet, but you will.

As the saying goes, "Good goes, Better comes". (There are hundreds of country songs that say it better than that, but you get the idea.)
