View Full Version : Top 20 Swan Songs
Kind of made this thread just for the name. I might not even post any songs.
Just kidding. 20 songs I love coming up! Cheers to Gatsby for the idea.
20.
"CAFO" - Animals as Leaders
Once upon a time, there was a young boy of 12 named Swan Folsom, who loved hard rock and metal. Specifically Metallica and Lynyrd Skynyrd and that stuff. You may be asking, what happened? Why do you like all these female and electronic musicians now? Well, my tastes changed. But I still have a soft spot for Metallica and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and some others, and because of that I still enjoy some metal/hard rock. My favorite metal band is probably Animals as Leaders. They rule.

"Pandora (for Cindy)" - Cocteau Twins
Dedicated to Godoggo.

Both are ummm... decent (but still good, don't get me wrong) songs but I'll give ya thumbs up anyway. :p
I wanna see a lot of Bjork. Got it?
I wanna see a lot of Bjork. Got it?
Unfortunately, I'm limiting myself to one song per artist, so don't expect more than one Bjork. Honestly, I could have made this list full of just Bjork songs, but I didn't want to do that. :p
18.
"Wolf Suite, Pt. 1" - Danny Elfman
This song is too good to inspire me. Whenever I listen to it, I think "I'll never be able to make anything that good." That's how good it is. Movie sucks, but this piece is one of my favorites.

17.
"Running Up That Hill" - Kate Bush
Got into Kate Bush last year thanks to JJ, really great stuff, she has been a favorite of mine since. This is her magnum opus, certainly.

Ironically, there will be no actual Swans songs on this list.

No Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky?!
I love Hounds of Love and the song you posted is one of her best.
Treasure is a pretty cool album, too.
I used to watch Tosin Abasi's guitar playing videos on YT back when I was into this kind of music, but I never really got myself to listening their album.
Swan Songs .
Great choices so far.
Ironically, there will be no actual Swans songs on this list.
What are you talking about. Except for the exception of maybe #20, these are all Swan's, Swan-esque songs. :D
Btw, I'm so proud to have created one of the two recent MoFo trends. Woot!

Well the Elfman piece is good anyway.
Ironically, there will be no actual Swans songs on this list.
How do you know?
16.
"Sprout and the Bean" - Joanna Newsom
Must've been around 17 when I discovered this song. Still one of my favorites.

15.
"Tous les memes" - Stromae
Recently actually, my sister introduced me to Stromae. I became addicted to his sophomore album, featuring this song, for a good two weeks. I absolutely adore the music video to this song, as well. I think it's beautifully stylish. Stromae is great with music videos - "Papaoutai" has a good one too. Anyway, French pop at its finest. Stromae is pop genius.

The Stromae song is interesting. I'd probably like it more if I knew the translation of the lyrics.
The other one... not so much.

That was a joke.

I admire the attempts at humor, Swan, but when are you going to start posting your real top 20?

Also, where's Throat Singing!?

Yeah, where's the good stuff? Haven't heard of any of these
14.
Guns N Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Swan I know you love this song, and that this is part of your real Top 20. :p

Yeah, where's the good stuff? Haven't heard of any of these
So because you haven't heard of any of them, that makes them bad?
Need moar Bjork!
So because you haven't heard of any of them, that makes them bad?
This is a good point, but in my case, I've heard most of these choices... :p
You know what, f*ck you guys. I'm so sick of being dissed for my taste in music. It's music, guys. I can like whatever I want. I may have dissed artists in the past but I don't diss people for liking them. It speaks mountains about you guys when you diss someones taste in music simply for being unusual and varied. But whatever. Still, for that, I'm jumping ahead and posting an Autechre song, which I know many of you lesser-minds hate.
14.
"Dial." Autechre
Glorious masterpiece by two geniuses.

No, I'm saying they can't be good :p
13.
"Svensk Sas" - Todd Terje
I believe christine called this one inspired, and she's right. It's got a lot of heart. JJ introduced me to Todd Terje and I owe him a lot, because I discovered one of my favorite songs with this here song.

Dude, what?
Did we ever force you to like the songs we like or be overly offensive? In my opinion, nope. You know we weren't posting for bad intentions. I mean, people get dissed here every day, including me sometimes, but I don't get pissed. I just laugh together and go over it, I'm rather glad that people have interest in me. If a random troll posts content "unworthy" nobody gives a damn, but if it's a buddy who posts it, then it's full of good-natured teasing. I'm sorry if our comments rubbed you the wrong way. :(

It gets old, Gatsby. I've put up with people bitching about my "terrible" taste in music since I joined this forum.

I've never seen anything about music you like since i've joined here. I was just giving you crap like we do a lot. :(

I understand, Cole. It has admittedly settled down a bit.
It's honestly not even the comments that hurt. It's always the fact that people rep the comments. For example, I didn't mind Cap's post - but the fact that he got +3 rep shows people clearly agree with him.

Guess I'm not following this thread anymore.
Should apologize to anyone I offended (or offend) with that post though. It's bugging me now and I feel really bad about what I said. I was a bit annoyed and upset and that's why I said that sh*t, but truth be told no matter what I might say during those times I respect other people's taste in things. I always have, and feel bad when I insult other people in that regard. So, sorry.

Guess I'm not following this thread anymore. Hate breeds hate. Swan got unnecessarily angry at people and got a little bit too far, but Miss Vicky's reaction only shows she's just as touchy as Swan. Sometimes I wonder how you guys still are alive and use Internet. Seeing how sensitive you are to all the stuff on the Internet, I'd have thought you committed suicide long ago. Or at least suffered from a nervous breakdown. WHY DON'T YOU KNOCK IT OFF WITH THEM NEGATIVE WAVES?!
I only listened to two Autechre albums: Tri repetae, which I loved and Confield, which I really liked. Looking forward to hearing more of their albums, because I obviously haven't heard the song you posted before. I like it.
I have only heard one single from Todd Terje (Delorean Dynamite) and thought it's quite alright. Would listen to his album, but I have stuff I need to hear and love more.
PS: No Throat Singing? Hopeless list.

aww don't get a cob on Swan, they're only messing with you!
Wait till I do my 20 favourite Dylan songs, I've been teased for liking him for over 30 years now - just let it go over your head!
and thanks for reminding me about Todd Terje, a great late afternoon dance around the kitchen while making the tea never goes amiss. You reminded me to find some more of his music. :)

Wait till I do my 20 favourite Dylan songs, I've been teased for liking him for over 30 years now - just let it go over your head! I'm looking forward to it! I absolutely loved Highway 61 Revisited, but then decided to listen to his discography chronologically and after Bob Dylan and The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (both decent in my opinion) I stopped doing it. Maybe your thread will make it pick it back up.

I'll put my mind to it after we've done the instrumental tournament. I might be able to inspire you ;)
