View Full Version : Rodent's Daughter...

The Rodent
07-14-15, 01:56 PM
I'm making a thread rather than just going for the Shoutbox on this one...

Remember that photo of my eldest Daughter Keira playing Football for her school?

I've just had her on the phone hyperventilating...

She's been selected to play Football for Huddersfield Town.
GET IN!!!!!!!!!

All that hard work, effort, not backing down and pushing through all the bad stuff in life (she's been through more than any child should have to go through) and not getting upset over the hard tackles and shoulder barges has paid off.

She's worked so hard over the past 8 years. I am so proud.

I'm in bits right now crying my eyes out... my Daughter is a semi-professional Footballer!!

Nice one! :)

When I was teaching I had a couple of kids taken on by Premier league teams. Neither of them turned pro but it's a memory (and boasting rights) they'll always have. ;)

Thanks guys

She's been acing her classes as I said in the Shoutbox the other day as well, and she also passed her Grade 2 Trumpet Exam as well today.

After all the upheaval the past almost decade, she's now finally pushed through it all and is making good on all the advice and support we've given her.
Her hard work has finally paid off.

She actually squealed like a mouse when she read the letter. Rodent's Daughter indeed :D

The Rodent

Bbbbut football is a man's game - you sure you heard right and it wasn't netball?

Just kidding - grats to both her and you.

You should see her play man! She tackles harder than the blokes do lol!

She's a defender by style. She's taller and faster than all the kids her age.
The last game I watched she stopped at least 15 goals by simply getting in on the action and kicking ass. The goalkeeper didn't have to do much through the whole match.

She remind me of me! I used to play the trombone and I was a goal keeper on a semi-professional futsal team! Now I'm an opera singer, be careful about that!!! :D

Congrats man! That's good parenting!

I don't know what that means but WOOOOO GO RODENT'S DAUGHTER!!!! :D

The Rodent
07-14-15, 04:00 PM
Well, Huddersfield FC men's team aren't the biggest team in the country, they play the 3rd league from the Premiership... but the Ladies are a big team within their league. Their league is the fourth from the Ladies Premier.
Hudders Ladies have won numerous trophies...

Congrats to the little Rodent. Just keep enjoying it.

Plus, it's the perfect starting point. It's her local team, they're a solid team, and they have basically scouted her and signed her up... it's a window to greater things.

Oh, no. It's happening AGAIN.

She just watched Young Guns for the first time, didn't she?

She's been selected to play Football for Huddersfield Town.

....... Oh. Oh. Oh, well, congratulations to her then. :leo:

You should see her play man! She tackles harder than the blokes do lol!

Will you be supportive of her if she's asked to be a Ghostbuster in a Ghostbusters movie?

I'd support my Daughter in anything she decided to do. What if she decides to be a serial killer?

The Sci-Fi Slob
07-14-15, 07:45 PM
The word 'football' can sometimes confuse Americans into thinking of a glorified battle involving bodybuilders wearing body armor, but there is no such confusion in this thread.

The Rodent
07-15-15, 02:30 AM
Thanks everyone for the support, I'll keep updating the thread as time goes on so I can boast if she becomes great :D

Mr Minio, if she decided to become a serial killer, I would totally by some cornflakes for her to kill.

Oof! They got a 3-3 draw.

Pretty good going for a first time.
Certainly a different score line than when she was playing for a small club and for her school, they would win like 17-4 or lose 14-0 or something silly. 3-3 is a fantastic score.

christine

I just told her that she knows how to play, just do what comes naturally.

Very proud of her.

Aww :) good advice Rodent. Be yourself, it's a good motto for life in general.

kids hey, I don't think you ever get over being proud of them no matter how old they are. My eldest son recently got a promotion at work that's seen him go from working in the call centre of this company to being their Manager of Systems Engineering for Europe, Middle East and India, all through his own hard work as he didn't go to university.

Been a little while since I updated... they've been kicking ass in most of their games but this was the big one the other day...

Huddersfield Town Ladies VS Carcroft Village Blue: CUP FINAL
The under 12s in their first season, picked up their first piece of silverware when winning the Sheffield & Hallamshire Girls plate final with a storming performance against Carcroft Village Blue.
Isobella Kington missed a couple of early chances, but made no mistake in the 6th minute to put the under 12s ahead.
... Two minutes later and Alyssa Valenti played Kington in to score her second goal and in the 17th minute Valenti scored herself to put Town 3 up.
Carcroft went close just a couple of minutes later when they hit Town's crossbar with a strong shot.
5 minutes before half time, Amiee Nuttall broke away and made it four.
Half time 4-0
Carcroft started the second half with more determination and Keira Millward in Town's goal made an excellent double save just 4 minutes in.
A minute later and Jada Simon had a strong shot well saved at the other end.
With 10 minutes of the game remaining a Gaby Pearson corner was volleyed home by player of the match Laura Hulme to make it 5-0.
With the end of the game near, Town scored two further goals, the first when Hulme followed up a Simon shot and steered it past the keeper and then in the final minute, when Hulme played in Kington to complete her hat trick.
Final Score: 7-0 to Huddersfield. Cup Win.

Got the SATs results in for her today.
According to the education secretary, the tests this year have been tougher than ever before... Keira pissed them with 90% Math, 93% Reading and 97% Spelling.
With the country's kids having a failure rate of 47% this year, I think mine are gonna be ok for the future :D

Btw, its "passed them" not "pissed them" ;)

For a moment I thought "pissed them" is an idiom of some kind, like passed them with ease, or something. xD

No, it's pissed them. As in passing something easily.

That's great news, Rodent. As you said, with this new standard, the pass level has dropped dramatically. The board/teachers didn't even want the results to be made public this year because they felt it wasn't comparable.

Clever little rodent.
