The 2015 MoFies... Is It Going To Happen?

For those who don't know, Godoggo started the awards almost 2 years ago, we had the 2013 and 2014, both of which were hosted by Godoggo and I threw together the trophy art for the 2013 ceremony... and then made some Star Wars themed ones for the 2014 ceremony.


With Godoggo being away from the site, I think through poor health (get well soon G), we need someone who knows how the MoFies works if we are to have another awards ceremony.


I don't mind making the artwork for them again, I've got a few ideas knocking around for a theme (last year's was Star Wars)...


... if anyone else wants to take over the artwork that's cool too, I don't mind stepping down, but I can't commit to actually running the awards but certainly don't want them to die off.
They've been a fun annual project, and have gone down well with MoFos, and we've only had two of them so far :) it'd be a shame to let them die off.

It has to happen. I can't imagine MoFo with about a MoFie Award Ceremony. It's a great way to wrap up the year and re-evaluate what we did and congratulate others for all the hard work they have done. There are forums that have something similar but are always filled with insults and inactivity.

I would be willing to be the vote tabulator. I would set up the nomination thread and all that. I can't commit to being the host though. Setting aside that much time to be fully focused is kind of hard for me with my family life. Maybe we can triple team this thing this year? Good time to bring it up Rodent, so we can have a plan in place.

Remember it all takes place in January-February, with voting/nominations ending December 31st.

We should all discuss and then vote on which categories we want to add or change. That way more people are involved.

I agree. I remember some categories seemed to be more or less the same thing and so could be combined into just one award. Godoggo once told me that too many categories made the awards too long.

It doesn't have to be about patting your friends on the back. It could be a group of people discussing and debating on who actually gets an award.

Random people voting are not discussing things. They are largely basing their decisions on their own perspective and maybe on the reputations of others. But then, the same old people are gonna get awards. And that's going to get old.

I think that's a golden idea, last year's past winners are emeritus and so not eligible for the same category this year. But they can still win all the other categories. That my fellow MoFos is an improvement, because it gives a chance for us to spread the love around to more people.

I have created a better design based on an old one that was made last year.


Don't fret though, I did this last year... I went through about 12 different themes, settled on Star Wars and then changed the Star Wars design over 100 times during the lead up to the ceremony.

I don't really think a particular category should be left out this edition, although perhaps the Best Sport award is a bit less relevant today than it once was. Maybe a few others could be compiled and reduced to just one category, but I personally don't really mind.

I do think there should be a bit more awards that are specifically based on cinema. There are too few of those, in my opinion.

For instance (just ideas):

Best Film-related Post (and then another category for posts that are more general)
Best Film-related Thread (although the decade list will probably win that, so maybe not that good an idea)
Best Film Review
Most Interesting Film Discussion
...

Stuff like that.
