The official launch date for Windows 10 is July 29th, and for those who have Windows 7 or 8/8.1 you can reserve your free upgrade to the full version of Windows 10. To take advantage of this upgrade log onto the Microsoft website (https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/windows-10-upgrade).

Will you be upgrading??

Will you be upgrading??

I will be. It looks pretty sweet and compact. Plus I like the fact that it gives you the leniency to download the update when you want.

People should know that it's only free for a year, then there will be a yearly subscription. Personally, I'll be sticking with good old Windows 7 for the time being.

Actually no. You have a year to upgrade from your previous operating system. After then it's free. No fee.

If you're not eligible for the free upgrade W10 Home is $119 and Pro costs $199 but, yeah, 10 will be free forever if you upgrade within the year.

Subscription has been rumoured for a while but nothing has been said yet. I'd expect something to be announced in the next year or two but as an add-on to the free or paid-for W10.

Seven ate nine.

Seriously, though, it's to avoid potential compatibility problems. Many programs look for "Windows 9" when checking for Windows version because up till now only the 95 and 98 systems would have a name beginning like this.

Personally, I will definitely test it as it has some features I'd very much like to use but if they haven't fixed the dwm.exe incompatibility problem that occurred on Windows 8 and 8.1 it's absolutely worthless to me. Because of this many games which run smoothly on Windows 7 run like a slideshow on Windows 8. That's because dwm.exe adjusted itself to the needs of the game on Windows 7. On windows 8 it doesn't.
