Wouldn't surprise me at all if this turns out to be legit - I've learned not to trust the clean cut "Bill Cosby" types - probably for the same reason people don't trust clowns. Some people just "like kids" a little too much.

Wonder how many of these kids are eventually going to come forward once the show gets yanked?

In an exclusive statement to People on Thursday, 19 Kids and Counting star Josh Duggar, his wife Anna, and his parents Jim Bob and Michelle are speaking out in response to reports that Josh was once accused of molesting five underage girls as a teen.

“Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. I hurt others, including my family and close friends,” Josh, 27, says in the statement. “I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation. We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing, and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life.”

Josh has resigned from his position at the Family Research Council as a result of the accusations becoming public, but his family has stood behind him.

“Back 12 years ago our family went through one of the most difficult times of our lives,” Jim Bob, 49, and Michelle, 48, said in a joint statement. “When Josh was a young teenager, he made some very bad mistakes, and we were shocked. We had tried to teach him right from wrong. That dark and difficult time caused us to seek God like never before.”

“I would do anything to go back to those teen years and take different actions,” Josh added. “I sought forgiveness from those I had wronged and asked Christ to forgive me and come into my life. In my life today, I am so very thankful for God’s grace, mercy and redemption.”

A rep for TLC did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.

I was never fond of the show, and this doesn't help.

My biggest issue is supposedly Jim Bob and Michelle were taking care of these kids... they made enough money to support them... there is no freaking way.. they were not getting a kickback from the government here in the US.... No matter how much you make a year.. you were getting something from somewhere..

Even the tv station was paying them money...

No wonder we have high taxes.

True, fundamentalists don't have kids because they enjoy parenting anyway. They do it just because the Bible says so.

But the Bible was written by an ancient warlike culture with low life expectancy and high mortality, so it makes sense that in the day and age having lots of kids was a big priority for survival of the tribe (it's the same reason that animals with low life expectancy like rodents produce lots more children than animals like elephants).

The problem is when the fundies believe that ancient laws were meant to be universally applicable regardless of the reason for the laws. That's why the show was trash from the get-go, it's just "kidsploitation" by just a "family" of degenerates having children because their cult tells them to.

According to these (loose statistics) net, it costs an average of $1100 a month to raise a kid from age 1-18

So going by that, unless these guys were making somewhere over $200,000 per year, there's no way they weren't leeching off the taxpayer.

I know this sounds a bit like communism, but the government should limit how much money you get by the number of children.. like they only give you money for 3.. but if you have 5, then nothing for the other two (make it stretch out) .. same way with tax returns.. you can only claim 3 and not get back all for the 19 you have..

Worst part is that TLC may have known about this the whole time and allowed the show to go on.

Another interesting fact about the show - the Duggars on the show apparently use a fundamentalist parenting book called "To Train Up A Child" by Michael Pearl...

...and several followers of his "ministry" have been linked to actual child murders, like this good Christian "family" who tortured their child to death as "discipline"

The show should've been yanked long ago for being linked to a shady ministry/cult of child murderers. This is just the final nail in the coffin.

There is a documentary on Netflixs about fundamentalists and their beliefs.. I ran across it while looking for something to watch..
