View Full Version : The Blacklist
So who's watching the Blacklist here? I started watching it and I'm enjoying it a lot; I think that James Spader (Raymond Reddington) does a stellar acting job. And just for trivia, he's the guy who does the voice of Ultron in the Avengers film.
Bump - can't believe no one else is watching this.

I've watched four or five episodes of the first series so far and really do like it but haven't been back to it since starting some more television series box sets, will do soon though. Only negative for me, get rid of that bloody wig! Right from the first episode it has got on my nerves, they could have done it better because you can tell it's a wig that the lead actress is wearing. :drevil:

My wife watches it every week. I've seen a few episodes and I enjoy them. Spader is fantastic in it.
I love The Blacklist; a cracking good watch. Although it really is James Spader that makes the show. His Raymond Reddington is a terrific character, just a really manipulative b*stard! His relationship with Liz is very intriguing; just a shame the actress who plays Liz can be a bit wooden at times
The big arc episodes can be a bit hit and miss at times but I love the standalone episodes that go into fairly lurid and pulpy territory such as cults and serial killers or face criminals like The Stewmaker.
Started watching this last week.
The series is all about Spader and his character, which is reason enough to love it!
Some of the special effects are.laughable and the acting from most actors has some terrible moments.
I liked the husband being a spy thing too, it lends a fresh element to the genre.

I watched the first season but i thought it got a little repetitive.

(or one really long one...) thought the premise was fantastic but, true to form, it took the express train to crazy town and I haven't been back. no clue where they even are in the story now.
But Spader made what I did see amazing.

I loved the first two seasons, but I hated the first few episodes of the third, and quit watching it. Major disappointment.

HA! Just saw the Rollo Tomassi plot twist they unabashedly pilfered from L.A. Confidential. I would be angry since LAC is one of my top faves, but I am enjoying the series too much, so I will write it off as a nod to a great film and give them a pass.

I'm considering it. Just two episodes in, so far. Spader is the main attraction for me. I like the fact that I'm not familiar with most of the remaining cast. Good ratings from various sources don't hurt either.

I just started watching this last night. A good friend of mine is a consultant for the show (the computer/tech bits -- but he only tells them whether something is plausible and sometimes they don't listen to him, ha!), and he finally talked me into it. Shows like this aren't really my thing. He said I had to watch the first episode because it's a crazy bunch of twists and turns.
So, I fired up Netflix, intending to watch the first episode.
Five hours and five episodes later, I'm still watching. (sigh)
I hate when he's right.
I'm still grieving over James Spader without his gorgeous hair, but I'll get over it.
If I had to categorize this quickly for someone else, I'd call it Silence of the Lambs Meets Dexter, But Without All the Cannibalism. :)

Season one was good. Still not bored with Spader, so, I'll continue.:yup:

The wife and I watch this series. She was a big fan of Alias, so I think that's why she likes this one. James Spader is the main draw for me. However many seasons in right now and they still dance around the main mystery of the show. It can get a bit tedious in that respect. It is definitely an episodic show just like any other in the genre, but the overall arc is interesting enough for me to continue on.
They always pile up on my PVR and I hesitate to watch new episodes because it's just mediocre to me, then I start the episode and find myself playing the next one....then the next one....then the next one. It's a weird thing indeed.

Finished all 22 episodes of season 1 in about 4-5 days. Just started season 2 today. Still thoroughly enjoying it, and I'm not usually a fan of this sort of show. Spader is carrying it all the way for me. Glad the husband is out of the picture. That lasted just about as long as it could have without feeling reeeeeally forced.
The main family mysteries and dilemmas surrounding Reddington are being handled at a good enough pace to keep me watching, even when an episode's blacklister isn't all that interesting.

I love the guy at the DMV! They need a spinoff show with him, Aram, and Mr. Kaplan. :D
The DMV guy was also in Fringe occasionally as owner of a very culty book shop. ;)

Maybe that's why he seems familiar then. (Loved Fringe!)

Well, I've breezed through all three seasons of this show on Netflix and now am in the unhappy position of having to hunt for the earlier episodes of season 4. My Comcast/Xfinity On Demand starts with Episode 11 because they don't keep current shows all that long. Hulu doesn't have them. The JustWatch app (which I love, so thanks for that suggestion!) seems to list it only as a purchase option, so I may have to break down and purchase the first bunch of episodes in order to watch them without having to wait for this season to end up on Netflix.
BTW, I predicted the twist at the end of season 3 as soon as it started happening a few episodes earlier. And I'm not usually good at predicting stuff like that, so I'm wondering if it seemed as obvious to other people, too.
I'm talking about...
Lizzy being alive and well.

Agreed. Plus, they kept Megan Boone's name in the credits. Ha!

It didn't help that the media kept telling me about her pregnancy.
Obviously written into the show for her to take some time off.

I hadn't read that stuff (since I'm only bingeing on this show now), but clearly she was really pregnant at that time. She had that cute, puffy face a lot of us get when pregnant.

I just caught up to you. I'm not in a hurry, so, I'll wait for Netflix to get season 4. I am not watching it on our Global TV with commercials, I don't have the patience. Also, I just think this is a good binge-watch show.

I don't record anything. I can wait.
So, this show is over now. What did everyone think of this show and in particular, the finale? I think this was a show that had a really good concept in the beginning, and James Spader always did a wonderful job as the central character, but it's just a show in my opinion that suffered because it went on for far too long. They really should have wrapped up who Red was to Liz in two or three seasons, then pivoted to another storyline. Certainly when the character who played Liz left the show, it should have been the end. I can't really understand why they continued for several more seasons after that, as it became a completely different show and had little to no connection to the original premise. Instead, after 10 years the mystery never resolves completely.
Also, I hated the finale. After 10 years, I wanted a definitive answer to who Red is and what his relationship to Liz Keene was, and we never got that. I'm familiar with the hint that was presented, but to me that's a disservice to the fans who watched the show for so long. I also think the way they chose to end Red's time on the show was not appropriate and really wasn't true to his character. It was far too anticlimactic an end for such a larger than life character. Additionally, they left completely unresolved the fates of the rest of the characters that formed the task force, so you never really know how their stories ended.
