Hi, Folks!

I'm something of an amateur cartoonist, and one of these days, I will get round to publishing my work on the web.

Till then, however, I'm starting this thread to encourage the art of political caricature, one of the mainstays of all cartoonists.

So, if you have anything that pokes fun of world leaders, politicians, etc., feel free to post it in this thread. It could be anything--photographs, video clips, cartoons, your own material--whatever you like.

I'm going to start by posting this picture of everybody's favorite living, breathing cartoon character, George. W. Bush. This is a picture of Dubya going undercover to look for Osama bin Laden:

And here's one of Gen. George S. Patton:

Wow, Django, I'm glad you haven't let any political bias decide which cartoons to show...
And say, I thought you were leaving/too busy to post.

Django
04-07-03, 08:40 PM
Hey, feel free to post any cartoons you like to reflect your own political viewpoint. The cartoons I have posted, as a diversion, are cartoons that struck me personally as insightful and funny, while browsing the web. If there is any bias reflected here, it is just my own personal point of view that comes across and not a deliberate political bias.

No it's not. I find it to be rather poor satire, actually. And I'm not one to criticize comedy just because I disagree with it politically, either.

Django
04-08-03, 05:32 PM
I thought it was very insightful myself, but to each his own . . .

Yoda

Is that another attempt to use forced humor to disarm a hostile viewpoint?

Django

Call it that, if you like.

Point is, I'm not here to engage in hostilities, only to express my point of view.

You are very quickly developing into a major pain in the butt, Yoda, with all due respect (considering you are the site admin, and for no other reason).

...a point of view which is frequently condescending and accusatory.

I don't disagree with you arbitrarily, bud. You continually ask for it.

Are you out of your mind or something? It seems to me that you have nothing better to do than concoct these delusionary gripes against me. And the way you feel compelled to dissect my most random and commonplace remarks suggests to me that you are suffering from some form of childhood trauma! My recommendation to you: grow up! Try displaying some emotional maturity instead of this 3rd grade mentality before you accuse me of condescension in the future! From now on, I will ignore your puerile commentary until and unless you say something of substance!

The major difference between the two of us being, of course, that people still actually want to hear mine...

A joke is only funny if more people than yourself get it, moron.

Django, I don't know what your goal on this board is, but I just want you to know that you have single handedly made me a supporter of the war in Iraq.

Django
04-11-03, 11:31 PM
Oh, I think many people got the joke. Just because you didn't get it, don't assume that others didn't.

By all mean, support the war in Iraq. I think the protestors would be better off with you on the opposite side of the fence! :D

Django, why do you insist on bashing George W. Bush? He had to have done somthing right if he was elected president!

Django
05-22-03, 09:00 PM
Gracie, I'm not bashing Bush (or bushing Bash, or whatever! :D) I'm merely promoting the art of political caricature, which thrives on making fun of the powers that be. And, at present, the powers that be pretty much amounts to Bush. I don't have anything personally against him, but as far as his administration goes, it is a seriously screwed-up scenario, in my opinion. From where I stand, Bush has done pretty much everything wrong--at least every important thing. Even the Gulf War was won solely thanks to US military might, not due to exceptional strategic thinking on the part of the administration! The President's economic policies are a joke and his war-mongering is downright scary! I don't know if Bush is a monster or a clown, or, perhaps, both, but, to me, he is a very, very disturbing human being--and this is in the context of a first-hand experience (so to speak) of what he is capable of.

You really ought to stop bitching about the economy if you simultaneously refuse to back up your gripes with anything beyond vague, anecdotal evidence.

Just FYI.

Django
05-23-03, 01:13 AM
Well, the fact that unemployment is the highest it's been in about a decade or so is not "weird anecdotal evidence"! The fact that homelessness is rampant is not "weird anecdotal evidence"! The fact that cities are run-down and polluted is not "weird anecdotal evidence"! The fact that pretty much everyone lives with the threat of being laid off looming over their heads is not "weird anecdotal evidence"!

As a wise man (I forget who) once said, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics!"

'Nuff said, I think.

Nope. But your claims of economic ruin are still non-sequiturs. As I've stated numerous times, employment is still below average, historically, yet you continue to rant as if the entire system were falling apart.

Of course they're not anecdotal: you provide no anecdotes to support them. You provide no evidence of any kind, actually. You simply assert them to be true. I find it very convenient that none of them can be objectively verified, as well.

Didn't you just try to use statistics to support your argument in regards to unemployment?

It was Benjamin Disraeli, by the way.
