the Simpsons is one of the greatest tv series of all-time. in it's prime, it was pure genius and infinately watchable and rewatchable.
currently, the reruns are all i can enjoy. for the past 3 or 4 seasons, the show has been a pile of ****. i am amazed that it's still getting decent ratings. it seems as though there are new producers and writers and animators. Now, it's lost it's heart. the show's sensibilities have changed drastically to the point where they're just flat - devoid of any of the show's former brilliance. it is just running on the momentum it gained in the early to mid 90s. if the series started out this way, it never would have gotten popular.
i still watch the new episodes and sometimes a somewhat enjoyable episode pops up one week and i tell people, "y'know, maybe the shows not that bad anymore." but i get my hopes up and unfortunately next week's episode sucks horribly again.
i would prefer that if it doesn't return to the way it used to be, or at least to some new form of halfway decent-ness in the future, that the series should just end. i'd be sad to see it go, but perhaps it would be for the best.
