View Full Version : Should I stay or should I go?

Django
04-01-03, 05:03 AM
I feel like I'm the butt-end of a lot of hostility on this forum and as I don't want to stay where I'm not welcome, I'm conducting this poll to gauge what people think of me. Should I stay or should I leave and never return? You be the judge. After awhile, I'll count the votes and accordingly either remain as an intermittent visitor, or vamoose never to return (this time, for good--Yoda can ban me if he wants!)

So give me the feedback and let's see what the outcome is.

From my end, I have enjoyed being a participant in this forum. The people here are pretty cool, for the most part, and I'm sorry I haven't gotten along with many of them. I've tried, but, as I am a working professional, I'm usually far too occupied with work to be more sociable. Anyway, here goes:

The Silver Bullet

You said you were leaving so leave. Stop coming back and asking us if you should leave. Just do it already. Threads like this are so pointless. If you want to stay, stay. If you want to leave, leave. You keep saying your going, and then you're back. My guess is that you hope someone notices the fact that you're gone, no one does, and then you come back to remind us. Stop lurking and make up your own mind you attention seeking goon.

Django
04-01-03, 05:34 AM
I'm not attention-seeking. All I wanted, originally, was to participate in the forum and pursue my own threads of discussion and discuss issues with others. I said I was going to leave awhile back, and did leave for awhile, because I was way too busy to participate regularly. I did say back then that I would return on and off. However, I see more and more people expressing their dislike for me and wanting me to leave. That's why I'm conducting this poll. If you want me to go for good, I'll leave, no questions asked. If the majority wants me to stay, I will continue to participate on and off. I'm just trying to gauge the public opinion of me. That's all.

The Silver Bullet
04-01-03, 05:37 AM
So, in other words, you have saught out the attention of others to see if they like you? That is called attention seeking.

Django
04-01-03, 05:40 AM
No, it's called conducting a poll!

The Silver Bullet
04-01-03, 05:45 AM
But it is a self absorbed poll about you, you, you! If you want to stay you can stay! For the love of God!

Django
04-01-03, 05:47 AM
Yeah, but I don't want to stay where I'm not welcome! If all I'm going to get here is a barrage of hostility, then I think it would be better for all concerned that I leave! That's why I'm conducting this poll--to gauge where I stand when it comes to public opinion.

Remember when I said that it's ok for you to be passionate as long as you accept that others are just as passionate and may have views that are the polar opposite of yours?

Still holds true.

Now stop being such a f*cking drama queen and get back to convincing us that we are a bunch of heartless, right wing, neo conservative fascist pigs... I liked you better when you were in my face. ;)

I've tried, but, as I am a working professional, I'm usually far too occupied with work to be more sociable. Anyway, here goes:

Oh and this holds zero water with me... I'm a working professional and I have a start up business on the side. Post what you want, when you can and stop reminding us how busy you are... everyone's busy.

Not attention seeking? You posted a page-long introductory post that delved into your history with other message boards and devolved into a borderline personals ad at the end. I'm sorry, but Silver's hit the Django on the head in that regard.

As has Toose: your "lack of time" excuse doesn't wash. And, despite your claims, you never left. You just stopped posting for a (very) short while, opting to visit several times a day, instead. His "drama queen" comment was right on the mark, as well.

Do what you want. If you choose to stay, however, I recommend you develop a lot more emotional maturity AND open-mindedness, otherwise you'll continue to be met with the same sorts of responses.

Vote you off? It's not my style, but to post a thread like this you're either self-desructive or self-absorbed. None the less whether to stay or leave should be your own choice.

I shall become invulnerable to your data smog.

Django

Thanks for your responses.

Dudes, I'm not trying to be self-absorbed or narcissistic or dramatic. Basically, a lot of people have been expressing hostility towards me. I just don't want to be accused of destroying a good thing, namely this forum and the cameraderie and good humor in here. I'm sorry I brought up a lot of controversial issues in here--I guess it's force of habit. I enjoy discussing controversial issues. It may seem hard to believe, but I am extremely apolitical. Rather, I'm concerned with what's happening around us. Therefore, the heavy issues that I raised. The last thing I want to be accused of is ruining a good thing. That's why I'm conducting a poll in here to try and get a sense of popular opinion about me. It's a little early for me to make out the results, but the general opinion seems to be favorable towards me so far.

Anyway, to my supporters, I say, thanks! Your backing and appreciation are deeply appreciated!

To my detractors, I say, I wish we could get along better.

Regarding the poll, perhaps it was a bit self-indulgent on my part. Basically, assuming I am not voted off the forum (and it's still a possibility), I'll probably be visiting on and off, whenever I find some time.

Again, thanks for indulging me and participating in the poll. Take it easy and hope to hear more from all you great folks out there!

I don’t really care what you do Django… whether you stay or go is your choice. Whatever you decide though, I would strongly advise you to climb down off your pedestal and learn something about the American people that you have chosen to live among which is something I don’t think you have taken the time to do at all… I would also advise you that while Freedom of Speech is one of the privileges Americans have… that freedom does not come without a price… there are times when you will be held accountable for your words… when you start attacking Americans, they tend to dig in their heels and roll up their sleeves… think about it.

Oh and btw… Condescending means displaying a patronizingly superior attitude… re-read some of your posts…

Django
04-02-03, 03:40 AM
Okay, Caitlyn, honey . . . oops! :D I goofed again and patronized you didn't I? My mistake! Sorry! Anyway, getting back to the subject at hand: a) I'm not putting myself on a pedestal. I don't know what gives you that idea. I may not be the most bashful guy around, but I am far from being shamelessly self-promotional. In America, one sometimes has to shout to be heard. That may be mistaken, sometimes, for self-exaltation, but it is not. b) I'm learning about Americans all the time, believe me! Learning truly only comes from experience, and juicy little tidbits from lovely strangers such as yourself! c) I don't mind being held accountable for my words. That's one of the reasons I returned to this forum to answer to my critics--only to get accused, by some, of going back on what I said earlier, namely, that I was planning to leave the forum. Another thing I've learned is that sometimes, you just can't win! With some people, nothing you do is ever good enough! So I've learned to just ignore such people for better or worse! d) I did not attack Americans--I criticized George W. Bush and his administration. If you happen to take my criticism of the Bush administration personally and interpret it as a criticism of yourself or of Americans in general, I genuinely feel sorry for you! e) I know what the dictionary meaning of "condescending" is and, however you may interpret my words, I repeat, I am NOT condescending or patronizing!

Honestly, I don't understand why you don't just drop this arguments revovling around your own persona. Just let it go and keep posting on the forums like it never happened. You are being pretty egocentric here, Django. Try to piss people off with your views on specific subjects and topics instead of engaging in issues about things that only get painful in the end. If someone is being an ******* - call him/her an ******* but explain why that person is being an *******. And never let the namecalling rule out the real basic opinions. Believe me, you can call someone an ******* without hurting that person or risking a third world war.

People thought I was being rude here in the beginning but now when they've got to know me they know I'm just being honest. What I say, I mean. I don't kiss ass, but I don't deliberately hurt anyeone either, and if I do I always apologize. In other words, I'm the man! :D

So, Django, what I'm saying is: Please stay, but keep the posts about issues, not about yourself. Well, you yourself is of course an issue all together, but I think you know what I mean. A little more substance and a little less :bawling: .

Stay cool, man

Django
04-02-03, 05:34 AM
Point taken, though I don't agree with your assessment of me or of the content of my posts. If you read through the stuff I've posted, it's mostly to do with issues and nothing to do with myself. The couple of threads I posted about myself were not intended to be egocentric at all, but intended to function for a very specific purpose. Also, I'm not crying here--just trying to get a feel for public opinion about myself. You are interpreting this thread as a play for sympathy, whereas the reality is that I feel that I have been unfairly targeted with a great deal of hostility and, before it comes to the point of me being blamed for ruining the forum, I want to get a clear understanding of where I stand when it comes to public opinion. If the overwhelming majority wants me out of here, then I'll leave, no questions asked, no hard feelings. If, on the other hand, the majority doesn't mind me being around, then I'll stick around and contribute my 2 cents worth of opinion!

Thanks for your words of support and take it easy! Also, please take the poll if you haven't already done so! Make your opinion count where it matters! :D

Django! If you don't want this DON'T post a thread about yourself! Especially don't disagree with everybody's comments that you have asked for. You say you want this thread to be used to get a "clear understanding" of where you stand with people so don't contradict their honesty.

b) I'm learning about Americans all the time,

Why must you learn about Americans? Are you trying to fit in, in this country? You seem to be distinguishing yourself from Americans. Are you just fuc*ing with certain people on this site as "a little experiment" on how "Americans" react to your tirades?

If you happen to take my criticism of the Bush administration personally and interpret it as a criticism of yourself or of Americans in general, I genuinely feel sorry for you!

I'm going to say it again; I think Django, you have personal issues with this country, the war. I forget from which country you come, but how does your homeland feel about the war? Like you, I just want to "learn" about your culture.

My only request of you (and of everyone else on the board) is to stop posting poetry. For the most part, I enjoy your presence. Don't listen to Silver Bullet, don't listen to Yoda or Toose, just stay if you want to. Why do you care what people think of you? Give up the act and enjoy yourself.

Again, thanks for your opinions and words of advice--all of you. They are very enlightening!

Basically, I'm not trying to cry wolf here--like I said, I'm just trying to get a feel of the general opinion regarding my presence on this board. The poll results thus far remain favorable, and that's heartening to me.

I appreciate the feedback and participation from all of you! It's been a very educational experience for me personally.

Why must you learn about Americans? Are you trying to fit in, in this country? You seem to be distinguishing yourself from Americans. Are you just fuc*ing with certain people on this site as "a little experiment" on how "Americans" react to your tirades?
Reporter, no way am I manipulating or playing around with anyone. Basically, being in a new country and on this forum are inevitably going to be educational experiences. The idea is to broaden one's mind through cross-cultural interaction--at least that's part of the story. The other part is for me to express myself. I'm just wary of treading on people's toes, from past experiences--hence this poll.

I'm going to say it again; I think Django, you have personal issues with this country, the war. I forget from which country you come, but how does your homeland feel about the war? Like you, I just want to "learn" about your culture.
When I was back in India last year, the general consensus seemed to have been opposed to Bush's campaign against Iraq. But, actually, in recent months, my feeling is that people in India have been way more concerned with the World Cup Cricket tournament in South Africa. India actually made it to the finals of that tournament, but lost to Australia and ended up the runners-up.

Thanks again for the feedback! Take it easy.

Open minded about what? I can't help it if you're wrong about everything Yoda. ...I'm actually arguing with someone so ignorant of their own narrow-mindedness to declare not only that someone else is wrong about "everything," but who has also declared that any fact which contradicts their conclusion must inherently be wrong. starring Django as 'trouble cause m'graw'
With Yoda as 'man with bricks'
Also starring Sunfrog as the 'man with Yoda's bricks'

"Trouble-cause McGraw"?

Moi?

 :bashful:

:D

Well, let me make amends, then!

Bartender, drinks all round!

Let me also take this opportunity for posting something that will, hopefully, lighten everyone's spirits in this tense moment--a moment marred by the untimely demise of NBC's star reporter, David Bloom--another casualty of the war in Iraq:

How about this lovely picture of a hippopotamus in a bikini? :D

another casualty of the war in Iraq:
Actually, he suffered a pulmonary embelism. So he wasn't really a casualty of war.

Oh, you mean it wasn't war-related? Now that's a sad anti-climax!

Herod

It does seem a little sad.

I mean, more sad, than, y'know, his dying.

Well, the poll is closed and looks like the majority wants me to stay around! So who am I to argue with the mob? :D

To the screaming hordes who want me to stay around, I say, "I love you all!"

To the losers who want me out of here, I say: :p

...the fact that three of your four biggest critics didn't even vote doesn't mean much to you when considering the results of this poll, does it? And this from the guy who loves to rant about illegitimate elections.

Heh. Irony, thy idol is Django.

I can't lose when I don't play. Hence, my comment on not voting. You "win" because no one's dumb enough to come out and play such a silly little self-absorbed game with you. I'd have thought this was obvious by now. Congratulations on winning first place...in a contest with one entry.

Incidentally, here's more evidence of Yoda's underhanded tactics. When I started this poll, there were only 4 options. The fourth option said something a little more innocuous, incidentally. It has since been changed to a much more potent expression of hatred: "We hate you! Get out of here!" This, of course, has been done by someone with admin level access--not by me. Who, I wonder?

Also, a fifth option has been added: "Load the gun! Pull the trigger!" An option that was never introduced by me. Again, edited behind my back by someone with admin level access. Who would do that, I'd like to know?

More and more evidence of the sorts of things Yoda has been doing to damage my credibility in here. The list goes on and on!

Are you or are you not the forum administrator? Do you not have the final say regarding what goes on in here? Aren't you willing to take responsibility for the actions of those you give heightened levels of access to? You may not be directly responsible, but you have implicitly sanctioned these actions by giving certain prerogatives to certain people--people like Silver Bullet, who saw fit to edit my posts, Caitlyn, who currently sees fit to arbitrarily close my threads, and now, the anonymous character who has modified my poll. What next, Yoda? Manipulation of my poll results? At what point are you going to cross that line? And you have the nerve to question MY credibility? You blatant, underhanded liar!

I've explained to you time and time again why it would be completely implausible for me to rig these polls.

That said, I think I'll take my lectures on credibility from someone who doesn't employ false identities.

Oh, please! Sure, I created the identity of the "fascist pig"--but purely in a humorous, satirical vein! Nothing I have done comes anywhere close to the underhanded tactics you have engaged or sanctioned in here.

Yes, so I say. Nice to know that even though you've stated "speculation proves nothing," you're willing to jump to conclusions when it suits your twisted agenda.

I'm referring to the following aliases: Vlad
Vlad II
I'MBACKAGAIN
TRUTHWILLOUT
jackfrostYou've yet to own up to these, despite the fact that two of them were confirmed by someone with access to your email address.

As for "underhanded tactics" -- I assume you're referring to the accusations of racism and complete rehash of the same position you've stated publicly a few dozen times? Or are you thinking of the goofy, painfully obvious edits that proclaim "I am a fish!"? Either way, it's not exactly on par with deliberate deception over the course of several months.

Even if I did "own up" to these, and I make no such admissions, none of these amount to anything less innocuous than the harmless and satirical. I think it's absurd for you to exaggerate the seriousness of all of this and make it out as if it is a major violation of protocol in here. At the worst, it amounts to a harmless practical joke, and only a fool would admit to a practical joke.

From where I stand, it looks to me like a concerted campaign of deception and underhanded practices and strategies in an ongoing attempt, it seems, to undermine my credibility. To say nothing of the deliberate bias displayed by you on any number of occasions. I'm sorry, but this shallow attempt to dismiss the charges--which remain unanswered by you, incidentally--simply doesn't cut the mustard. As for the edits--firstly, I'm glad that you finally admit to them. Anyway, they were hardly goofy. Rather, they amounted to the deletion of valid comments made by me and replacing them with juvenile nonsense deliberately engineered to make me look ridiculous.

So "I am a lollypop!" is a deceitful, underhanded, dishonest tactic, but inventing a user to defend yourself and denying that you did for the next 3 months is a harmless joke? :skeptical: What was that you were saying about bias?

Uh, I've answered every single charge you've brought against me, no matter how silly. It's you that's left hoards of unanswered arguments lying around. Shall I fetch them for you?

Uh, I've answered every single charge you've brought against me, no matter how silly. It's you that's left hoards of unanswered arguments lying around. Shall I fetch them for you?
No, you have evaded responsibility by denying you had anything to do with them. As for my "unanswered arguments"--what exactly are you referring to? About whether you said that I said that watching movies makes you insane? Just one of the most inane objections you have voiced against me--also an example of how you have distorted my most innocuous statements to make them appear somehow sinister or bizarre. The fact is, I don't have the leisure to address every one of your finicky arguments, considering that most of them are so ridiculously trivial and meaningless that they make no sense at all! I have better things to do! In fact, this whole feud is such a waste of time that from now on, I'm just going to ignore everything you say in here.

"Finally admit"? Provide an instance in which I denied it.
Well, you have repeatedly evaded responsibility and denied you had a hand in it. The statement you made lends credence to the school of thought that you were very much involved with them. Obviously, from the fact that it involved access privileges not available to everyone, it is clear that you were responsible at some level.

Anyway, that said, this is where I officially end the Yoda feud, as it is eating up way too much of my time.

From this point on, everything Yoda posts will be ignored by me. Pity I can't put you on my ignore list, Yoda. I wish I could! :D

Short-term memory problem? I elaborated on this less than an hour ago.

You know, every single time the subject of your fake identities comes up, you either ignore it or find some cowardly excuse to end the conversation. Every time. You're dodging, plain and simple.
