View Full Version : I'm seeing an advance screening of "Dreamcatcher" tonight

And this is a thread, why?
So that I can brag. Just like my thread about seeing an advance screening of Die Another Day.
We've got maybe 50 pointless threads as it is. One more won't hurt. It's not spam, it's not a repeat, and it's not insulting anyone. Thus, it fits adequately in Intermission.

But Django's "War's here, think happy thoughts" -- where he says he's going to list babes who have their name tattooed on his behind -- doesn't fit adequately because it had "war" in the title of the thread? Even though I read nothing about war in any of the posts....
that's unfair!
We already had two threads about the war, and he mentioned it again in a more or less unrelated thread for no apparent reason. Why? It serves no purpose other than to harp on his ideal, but there are already places for that. It'd be like me dropping in the fact that I didn't like "Titanic" in every discussion. We have different threads for a reason.
I made it clear that he is free to create a "happy thoughts" thread and free to disagree with the war in the applicable discussions. I feel this is more than fair. He has not been silenced or censored, because it is NOT the content, but the deliberate and unceasing repetitiveness that I disapproved of...we don't want a forum flooded with someone's political agenda.
I stand by my decision, with all due respect to those who dissent.

I like your definition of an intermission thread.
I found the book to be less than thrilling but the movie does look good.
Let us know.
Well, a good Intermission thread is like art...or pornography. Good luck defining it, but you know it when you see it. It's basically something a notch above the Shoutbox in firivelousness, in my mind...either that or a fierce debate, of course. Anyway, fits better in this forum than any other, I think.

"I'm seeing an advance screening of 'Dreamcatcher' tonight" is something I'd say belongs more in the Shoutbox. I recall seeing in the Shoutbox Holden Pike mentioning that he was off to see a movie not long ago, and then he boasted about getting it on DVD the following week or so - he didn't make an entire thread about it.
This thread is now partly a debate about the Intermission forum. A good Intermission thread is like art or pornography? Unusual thing for you to say. I don't agree. Pornography is art's sister, but an Intermission thread isn't in art's family tree.

...and people have also posted entire reviews of movies in the Shoutbox instead of the appropriate thread in the Movie Reviews forum.

An Intermission thread isn't supposed to be art. It's allowed to be a little pointless...that's the point of the whole Intermission forum, really. I just draw the line on what could become the flooding of a repetitive agenda. Rest assured I did not make these policies up on a whim. They are, for the most part, carefully formulated to be conducive to enjoyable discussion. You might not agree, but I hope you can understand. No hard feelings on my end, regardless.

You hurt a good intermission thread from being like art (or pornography) by eradicating threads that dare to show emotion. "On the eve of war, let's think happy thoughts" looked like it was going to be an emotional thread. Let's face it, everybody is talking about war, and the media is feeding us a lot of the same thing. We're getting constant talks about how America is the big bad bully; how it's about time we take a stand; how Bush doesn't know what he's doing. Why can't you allow anymore discussions and THOUGHTS about WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE WORLD TODAY? Too many threads? Pffft! Too many excuses. "Titanic" has NOTHING to do with this - that was a movie, Chris. This is reality. That's why it's laughable that you remove somebody's thread which relates to THE WAR, and then you create a so-so, forgettable thread about your one night trip to the movies in the Intermission forum.
I'm not against this very thread you started - by all means, let it have its ground. But your ridiculous rules on war related threads - particularly one that wasn't even blatantly vulgar or fascist - is spiritless, defiant and uncompassionate. You should be monitoring threads that are genuinely obscene, hateful, and upsetting to the general public - instead you've taken the route of deleting HAPPY, expressive threads relating to this period of our life. And what do we get in return? "I'm seeing an advance screening of 'Dreamcatcher' tonight!" by Yoda, webmaster and friendly forum leader. Chris, does this mean you're more important than other people? Please rethink things. That's all I ask. You say you're afraid of a repetitive agenda. What about your agenda? Maybe some of us are afraid of it.
If someone wants to discuss the war, they have threads in which to do so. If someone wants to discuss something new about the war, they can start a new discussion about it. If someone wants to post about nothing but war by dragging it into other discussions for no reason, they can do it somewhere else.
Furthermore, this is not a contest, so I fail to see why you continue to compare that thread to this one. You're making it out to be some sort of matchup, where I take one thread and trade it for another like this one. Which obviously isn't what happened in the least. Throw that in with the implication that starting this thread for some reason means that I think I'm more important than everyone else (huh?), and you've unnecessarily made this some sort of personal issue.
I'll end by saying this: the implication that I'm somehow silencing people, or destroying any thread with emotion, is more than a little ridiculolus. Take a look around and tell me if I'm really deleting emotional threads left and right, or censoring people who disagree with me. Take a good look and try to tell me you honestly believe that. As much as I respect you, Jason, I don't think you do.

But you're starting to - and Django's original "happy thoughts before war" thread was HIS thread. He didn't throw war into pre-existing threads. He did start a new discussion - he only took a different tactic. I found it silly, nonetheless, but important. It was a cool concept, which is why I recreated it. But I'm nuts over the fact that mine doesn't get deleted merely because "war" isn't in the title. So what if Django's thread said "on the eve of war"? It is the eve of war! And his thread was amusing, and not about the war. The thread was intended to stick around for a short period of time anyway - much like this one is supposed to - very short, since it's about TONIGHT.
There is no contest here, only examination under my eyes.
In Django's original thread, tucked away in the dead vault, you said that it was deleted because he already made an "anti-war thread". "On the eve of war, let's think happy thoughts" is not anti-war, so again, why delete it?
Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth:
Celeb, I appreciate your standing up for my rights. You are a good man, sir!
However, personally, I bear no hard feelings. Celeb resurrected the thread, so people are still thinking happy thoughts, and that's what matters!
Yoda, I respect your judgment, one way or another!
Let the discussion continue!

That's precisely why I'm arguing here -- your original thread was to get people to think happy thoughts, and for some very odd reasons, it was deleted. I hope something like this NEVER happens again. Never ever ever.
I'm going to keep this simple.
1 - I'm not "starting to" at all. It is in no way ANY indication that I'm "starting" to get rid of "threads that show emotion." I'm sorry, but that claim just doesn't hold up.
2 - I did NOT say it was an anti-war thread, and certainly did not give that as the one and only reason for taking action. I'm not sure where you got that idea.
3 - The reasons are not "odd." You may disagree, but I've explained them several times in great, great detail. I stand by my decision and my explanations of it.

1. Nevermind my talk about emotions - that was when I referring to threads as art, when you said a good thread is like art... or pornography. Django's thread happened to be tying to our emotional side instead of our political side because he was asking people to talk about happy things. It was not political, it was not a repeat of something, it was perfectly acceptable. You happen to have your own agenda here and I noticed it when you removed Django's thread.
2. This is what you said after closing Django's thread in his thread:

You're implying that the "On the eve of war, let's think happy thoughts" thread was anti-war? I didn't see it as that. And even if he has this so-called agenda, which you believe he has, why couldn't that thread have stayed? No need to clog the board with this stuff? Why not? Everybody clogs the board with stuff. Why do you seperate him from the rest of us when he's no different? It's not fair. I feel strongly for fairness and individual expression. I feel that Django's thread was unnecessarily censored.
3. Yes, I disagree and I stand by own explanations and judgement.

Sorry, Yoda, but the reason you gave me regarding the deletion of the thread was that it, in some way, addresses the war, while I have another couple of threads on the same subject. You claimed that I was being repetitive and propagadistic and suggested that I have some sort of political agenda underlying my comments on this board.
a) My thread had NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the war or with ANY sort of political agenda. It had to do with thinking happy thoughts in the face of an impeding disaster, namely, the Iraqi invasion. So, in that context, on second thoughts, I totally agree with Celeb. My thread WAS unnecessarily censored. Celeb is right on the money. I just didn't notice what you did and the seriousness of what you did because I wasn't paying attention. My thread WAS unnecessarily censored and I think it was a serious breach in fairness for Yoda to have deleted it and then to begin spamming the board with facetious comments about the movie previews he has been seeing. This is, after all, the intermission forum and one can address non-movie related topics here, whereas movie-related topics can be addressed in the movie-related forums.
b) From Yoda's comments subsequent to the deletion of my thread, I am more and more convinced that the REAL reason the thread was deleted was because I cited, as one of my "happy thoughts", the 100 or so extremely beautiful and intelligent women I have had the pleasure and honor of enjoying sexual intimacy with--and having enjoyed every minute of it. I don't believe it is pornographic to celebrate the joys of sex--it is a celebration of life. They were all very beautiful women--all 100 or so of them, and I thoroughly enjoyed their company and sexual favors, and I am in no way ashamed to publicly say so. If you find any of this objectionable, perhaps you should consider getting a life and stop living in the 19th century! Get out of that corset or collar and embrace the joys of life instead of hiding in a closet with violent delusions and power-trips! I love life! I enjoy life! And I am in no way ashamed of it! So if you don't like it, too bad! Perhaps I don't like you either! :D
Celeb, thanks again for sticking up in defense of me. You brought my attention to a number of very important points that had totally escaped my attention before. I owe you one for raising this issue, buddy! Take it easy!

Sorry to interrupt your free love diatribe, but my God man, are you serious? Read what you wrote again. You're Django talking about sleeping with women on a message board, not Martin Luther King overthrowing oppressive governmental policies. You take yourself entirely too seriously.
Here's one reason your little conspiracy theory doesn't make any sense: because I told you to post the same thread over again without the war reference if you wanted. Here's another: there are a number of threads discussing sex on here already that haven't received even the slighest objection.
And here's another: I don't really believe you anyway, and furthermore, don't care. Either you're exaggerating rabidly, or you posess, in my opinion, severely shallow and/or misplaced priorities (when you don't even know for sure how many women you've slept with, there's a problem). I don't really care which it is, and couldn't care less if you wish to go on about these alleged conquests. And please, for goodness' sake, stop caricaturizing those you disagree with. It's an awful habit.

Not a free love diatribe--merely a defense of my sex-life. I'm not advocating my way of life, merely defending it. No conspiracy theory at work here, merely an objection to what I see, in light of Celeb's comments, as an unnecessary act of censorship. The other threads discussing sex that haven't been touched seems to suggest to me that there was a bias involved in the deletion of my thread. It doesn't concern me whether or not you believe me. Facts are facts. Like I said, I wasn't counting, but it seemed like about a hundred or so, give or take a dozen or so. Finally, I'm not caricaturizing those I disagree with--merely using some expressive language. Perhaps you should follow your own advice, Yoda.

But I am not for that statement in this debate. I absolutely don't agree with any of it. It's ridiculous. What convinces you that the thread was closed because of that?!
I'm done here. This debate is dead now. You're welcomed, Django, that I brought up some points. But, moving on....

I'm not sure I follow what you are saying here. Are you claiming that I am fabricating this entire claim? That I am a liar? Well, what I said above was completely accurate. Oh, come now! Every time you refute me, you caricaturize me! How much evidence do you want? Your demands for evidence strike me as a little hollow. Do I really need to prove the obvious? You pointed out above that I'm kind of new to this forum deal and that I take it too seriously. Well, I admit I'm new to this forum, but as to taking it seriously, that's totally off! I have more important things to worry about, frankly. The forum is a lot of fun, and all, but that's all it is! The people here are cool to rap with and I get a kick out of reading some of the posts. And I enjoy tossing around some interesting issues too. But I'm not here to engage in any sort of legalistic maneuvering and cross-examination. If you must examine everything I say under a microscope and then require me to provide evidence to back up all of my claims, I really don't have the time or inclination to do so. I'm a working professional and I have deadlines to meet. I like to spend a few minutes casually chatting online, but I don't have the time to go into issues in depth. It's not that I'm not intelligent enough--it's just that this is just not one of the high items on my priority list right now. Earning my next paycheck is.
I posted a few things on the forum for a lark, because I got a kick out of doing so. Like the post about 100 or so hot babes with my name tatooed on their butts (figuratively speaking). It's true that I have indulged myself with many, many beautiful women--maybe not 100, but who's counting? In any case, for whatever the reason--be it my claim or my mention of the word "war" in the title, the thread was deleted. Frankly, I didn't think it was a big deal at the time, because I really couldn't care less, to be frank. Whether or not a thread of mine is deleted is hardly a major issue in my life. Like I said, I have more important things to worry about. Then "Sexy Celebrity" came along and started posting comments that the deletion of the thread was unfair. I wasn't paying attention initially, but his arguments convinced me that it was. Well, now he wants to retract everything he has said. That's his business. As for me, I was going with what he said, and adding some comments of my own. At this point, all I can say is that I haven't been around here long enough to make a determination one way or the other. So I must, of necessity, call it quits here too. Besides, I have another deadline to meet.
It's been real, folks! See ya! :D
If someone posts a thread advertizing a product on this forum--a single thread or post--wouldn't you say he was spamming the board? All it takes, sometimes, is a single post.
Sometimes, yes, but not this time, as I didn't advertise a product. Therefore, your accusation of "spamming" is unfounded. I don't know why you're so reluctant to concede this. It's obvious that you threw it out there baselessly.
I'm not sure I follow what you are saying here. Are you claiming that I am fabricating this entire claim? That I am a liar?
What I'm saying there is that your denial of having put forth any "conspiracy theory" is rather hollow. You stated very clearly that you think you saw the "REAL reason" I deleted the thread. And I was pointing out, for the second time, that this "REAL reason" had two major holes in it. Like your "spamming" accusation, you seem to have tossed it out even though it didn't make much sense. Unfortunately, I feel obliged to call you out on these sorts of things.
Oh, come now! Every time you refute me, you caricaturize me! How much evidence do you want? Your demands for evidence strike me as a little hollow. Do I really need to prove the obvious?
If it's "obvious" you should be able to provide at least one example, right?
You pointed out above that I'm kind of new to this forum deal and that I take it too seriously. Well, I admit I'm new to this forum, but as to taking it seriously, that's totally off!
Your rant about your job wasn't really necessary, because I didn't say you took this forum too seriously. I said you were taking yourself too seriously.
But I'm not here to engage in any sort of legalistic maneuvering and cross-examination. If you must examine everything I say under a microscope and then require me to provide evidence to back up all of my claims, I really don't have the time or inclination to do so.
