guy was a one of a kind broadcaster but appeared to be an even better man. he really shaped my love of sports when i was first watching. really sad day.

I watched SportsCenter obsessively in the late 90s and always liked him. I thought "as cool as the other side of the pillow" was one of the funniest things I'd ever heard and is probably still in the top five best SC anchor quips of all time.

Sports Center was all I had to read to realize why I had never heard of this guy...you couldn't fill a thimble with what I know about sports or sportscasters.
