I'll watch them, but it better be tender.
The Pawnbroker and The Train were both nominated for the 1966 Oscars for films released in '65 since they weren't released commercially in the U.S. until 1965. The Train was released in Europe in 1964 and The Pawnbroker played a festival once in 1964. We need to decide what year to put them in because I, for one, am voting for them whichever year. Are we using IMDb's dates even when they contradict the Oscars?
I'll see if I can get involved in this one. Headed back to the States in four days so we'll see what happens! (Also I love My Fair Lady so much)

This is what I have on my watchlist; please tell me if any of these are a waste of time-
A Shot in the Dark
Mary Poppins
Rio Conchos
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
O Pagador de Promessaa
The Gospel According to St. Matthew
Pale Flower
The Killers
The Pawnbroker
The Red Desert
Woman in the Dunes
Band of Outsiders
Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte
Becket
The Train
I also plan on rewatching Dr. Strangelove.
Is anyone familiar with The Up Documentaries? Or recommend it? It's on the Ebert list but doesn't appear to be a regular film.
I always use IMDb for dates.
The Up movies go by 7s - 7 Up, 14 Up, etc. O Pagador de Promessaa is 1962. I would call some of those on your list a waste of time but others would call my best the same.

Cricket, I've seen the Up documentaries. I absolutely love them, but I don't know that I am going to put the first one on my list in a best of year type competition. Because of the nature of the subject, you need to watch the other years to get the full effect of them. Just the one made in 1964 by itself feels incomplete.
I've puzzled over the Up documentaries before when I've thought about nominating them for tournaments. They are kind of tricky when it comes to things like these.

Agree with Go. The Up series are a really interesting piece of social documentary, but if I was watching them for the first time I'd do a few of them together. Watch them at some point tho, they are very affecting.
And Mary Poppins is never a waste of time ;)

Her cyan dress matches her hair bow and the umbrella on the wall. The fuchsia colored wall is also the color of the gel light that illuminates the actresses. Then the color pallet outside the window shows the same colors. Very nice!

I know you think highly of some others too. Is that your favorite year for film?
I'm guessing it's a year in the 1930s, pretty sure he said that's his fav decade.
When I was younger, I might have known the answer. It may be. If you go by most films rated 4.5 and higher. But there's also 1969. The Pawnbroker should be counted as '64. I just think that if you don't watch certain movies because of the year they came out, you're missing out. The same goes for countries they were made in. Of course, it can be a gradual thing. But you shouldn't automatically love or hate Hollywood or foreign films. But then again, I have no right to tell anybody what to do. It's just my opinion.

I think it makes sense to continue with the 60s because we should all be working on a list for the 1960s anyway, so these individual years should be helping. If we skip to a different decade, that will just add additional pressure to watch more movies that some people may not have time to watch.
