I joined this forum almost a year ago now, on the 1st January in hopes of watching a film a day for an entire year, a goal which I set myself to expand my knowledge on film so that I can perform better at university. It is now the 11th December and thus far I am achieving my goal and it is fair to say that, unless something drastic happens I will succeed.

Since being part of the forum my films tastes have changed a lot, and in my opinion for the better. I have fallen in love with numerous directors I hadn't heard of before and Tarantino, my favourite at the time; although I still like him, wouldn't make even make my top 5 any more. Kill Bill, which was my favourite film in January does not even make my top 10.

My film knowledge has grown an enormous amount and I think it reflects in my current grades, that this forum alone, for allowing me to expand my film knowledge in an exciting and engaging way, has actually changed my life and helped me to succeed at university (two 2:1 grades out of two so far).

So I want to say thank you to Yoda, Swan and all of you who have given me suggestions, talked with me, "battled me" in my challenge that somewhat turned into a tournament and to every single one of you who have just been there with your witty posts and insightful information and opinions. These things have helped me learn more and more about film and I wish to learn even more with you!

I am here to say and you're going to have to put up with me. ;)

This makes my day.

Obviously, I love it when someone says they enjoy the site, find it fun, love the sense of community, etc. All great stuff. But the most satisfying thing by far is when they talk about how being here has encouraged them to watch more films and think about the films they watch more. When they talk about how doing this has helped their taste to grow, and how that's given them a deeper appreciation for what movies can be.

So, for that, I say: thank you.

It's a great place and you/re helping it to stay that way, Rhys.

Dude! I am so glad you have accomplished your goal and have stuck around. You're a great member and a great friend. I love seeing you discovering all this great cinema and having an ever-growing passion for it. I hope it continues, and I'm positive it will.

We've got to get to another commentary soon!

Brilliant post Rhys. Glad you're here to stay and glad you're enjoying yourself at uni and getting the most out of it too by the sounds of things! You should be proud of yourself for doing so well, I'm sure we'll be seeing your name up on screens sometime in the future!

Yes we definitely will. I promise!

I know it's been a while but I have just been a bit busy. I'm going to have more free time during the Christmas and January hopefully. So maybe then? :)

Also thank you all so much once more! :)

This is why I'll be leaving here soon since you think we all should be developing our "taste" to "get a deeper appreciation for what movies can be."

1. I didn't say anyone "should" be doing this. I listed it as a thing I particularly like to hear.

2. There are already dozens of threads about you. This one's about someone else.

Yeah, well, I'm not trying to make this thread about me, thank you.

Don't know you that well Rhys since I'm quite new but judging from this post and a few others of yours I can tell that you are a man of goodness and intellect, I truly hope to get to know you better. Thanks for making this thread.

I would guess around 475-480 but I haven't got an exact total for this month yet. :)

Holy sh*t 22 rep for just one post!

Why didn't I think of this idea earlier? :D

I feel the same as you Rhys. This forum has changed my life, become a very important part of it. I've made people who I would consider friends and trust genuinely like I would people I know in person. I've come to watch movies I never would have considered beforehand, developed my writing, graphic skills etc. I initially joined to try and advertise some reviews I did, but I soon realised there was no point as I could just contribute them here and get more discussion in return. There's just such a great sense of community and I love everyone here.

Terrific post Rhys. I wish I could have posted the exact same kind of sentiments....except I don't actually like the people here. :p

What's also very interesting is comparing this post to Guap's leaving tantrum. Tough to get your head around the fact that both messages came from the same species

What a great post, Rhys. No matter how big or small, it's such a satisfying feeling to set goals and accomplish them. I think this site has done a lot for a lot of us. It's a great community.

You couldn't have said it better, man! Great post and I second every word of it! I've been here for 3 months now and I watched so many stuff I didn't even know that existed. I learned so much with it! This forum is so so great! Thank you all!

And thank you for creating the one-movie-per-day thread! I've only started in August and I missed 6 days since that but it accomplished the purpose: to make me watch more movies!

Great post.

Great insight from someone actually 'wanting' to expand their film experience.

If you ever need some recommendations...
