POLL: Top Movie Stars List - Redux

Please vote Yes or No. If there are enough Yes votes, then we'll try a do-over of the Movie Stars list for anyone who's interested.

I'll leave this poll up for a week to give people time to decide. Feel free to add any comments to either this thread or the original thread.

I voted "no". Sexy's list was fine (the order would be pretty much the same if you did a redo) and it's not like this kind of list is anything official anyway. Only movies are featured in the list section, so I see no point in doing another slower, "more official" version of what we already have.

We have an animation list and a '60s list to look forward to. Let's focus on that.

However, I agree with Cob that I don't think the results would be too different and I'm not sure if it's worth your time. I don't know how much activity the thread would get at a slower rate.

I don't mind waiting, but I'm not sure why everyone seems to think that the results would be the same.

I just looked at the list for the animation countdown, and there are almost 60 people who submitted lists for that countdown, and it's still open for more submissions. Only about 35 people submitted lists for the movie star countdown, so in theory, there could be twice as many people submitting lists. Plus. people who submitted lists the first time could change their lists this time.

So in theory, there could (and should) be a difference in outcome of the list.

There might be a difference in the outcomes, but the number of list will (probably) affect the lower and mid order the most. The top 20 will be pretty much as is. That's not a reason not to do it but, as BL said, it might only be the difference between DiCaprio finishing 9th or 12th. Frankly, IMO, that doesn't matter.

As long as it's all done with a fun, rather than serious, frame of mind, it shouldn't/won't matter, though.

This sounds like an interesting idea, but it may be a bit too confusing of a task for me to take on, especially with my first list. (I'm not even sure I could figure out my own Top 25 for a list like that, let alone calculating the results for 50-60 lists.)

If you (or anyone else) want to take on that task, that would be okay with me. This isn't about me running the list either. If someone else wants to do it, I would be happy to step aside and let someone else run with this.

Technically, you can vote for the same film more than once...


... you could say for instance, Morgan Freeman is one of your fave actors and Se7en is your favourite film of his... Brad Pitt is a fave actor and Se7en was your fave film of his, too.

I've been thinking about this and it's much more strategy oriented than I initially realized. When making your list, you would have to figure out which of your favorite stars' performances would be most likely to make the list, even if it's not your favorite performance of theirs.

For example, if five people all vote for Cary Grant, but each pick a different movie, he could potentially not even make the top 100 list.

Do you want to host a Top 100 Favorite Movie Characters list? I don't think that sounds fun. Most of the films I watch have the importance on the actors, cinematography and direction, not characters. I don't watch to many 'character' type films or comic book movies.


A better idea is a Top 100 Most Attractive Movie Stars.
That would be fun! And different. It's not the same list that was just done. We could have lots of pictures and fun commentaries. How about it GBG would you consider doing that?

This is how I'd do an actors list.




List your top 25 favourite actors and the film you loved them in the most. Basically this is your fave actor, and why.
25-1, no ties, 25th place gets 1 point, 1st place gets 25 points.


You cannot have the same actor more than once in your list of 25… however, you can have the same film more than once.


What this means is, if Brad Pitt is a favourite actor of yours and your favourite film of Brad’s is Se7en, and Morgan Freeman is a favourite actor as well and your favourite film of Morgan’s is also Se7en, you can vote for them and use Se7en alongside them both.


You could in essence, if you wanted to, have Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Anthony Daniels, Peter Cushing and James Earl Jones in your list with Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope next to all of their names. Cool, huh?

Once the deadline is up, votes will be counted up, and the Toppest of the Top (top 100, 50, 25, 10 or whatever), will be listed by order of votes/points.
If an actor appears more than once within the Top 100, 50, 25, 10 (however many we actually end up with), only their highest place will count, the other (lower) entries for that actor will be removed and everyone else will go up one place until we get a list of the Top Actors Based On Their Most-Voted-For-Films.

I considered calling my own list Top 100 Sexiest Celebrities.

But... you don't have to be a movie star to be a celebrity... and movie stars goes along with the movie themes around here... and I figure people probably include attractive movie stars in with their own preferences for movie stars. I mean, if they're your favorite... why? Not every reason has to be, "Because they're such a great actor." As I've said before, there can be other reasons why you like them. Why you single them out in the first place. Even if you don't realize it.

I understand now what Rodent's saying about that countdown. But I definitely do not want to do it. It would drive me crazy figuring it all out. That's sort of an intense idea for a countdown. Not sure if it would even work well enough, but I imagine it could.

I think people should make more of their own PERSONAL Top 100 lists (or any number, really) instead of doing these collective group things. I mean, the decades thing is fine... but various other topics might start to get irritating. I am not excited about the Animated Countdown. Nothing against it, but animated movies don't thrill me. I am interested in maybe bugging Miss Vicky during it, but that's about it.

That sounds like an interesting idea for a countdown, but I've been watching the results of the poll and the comments, and the board seems to be split 50/50 about doing another countdown at all right now. Unless the results of the poll change drastically showing that most people want a countdown, right now might not be the right time for any countdown.
