So...as I posted in the picture thread, the wife and I recently put up some new shelfs in our new home, then put our dvds in it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v118/layden/DSCN2491.jpg
She came up with the ambitious idea of watching EVERY SINGLE one of them, from first - to last.
Not once a day, but whenever we decide to have a movie night, we would go from #'s, to the A's, then the B's....till we hit...what is it, Zoolander?
Anyhoo...I figure I'd document which movies we watched and a quick little reaction. This isn't something that will be huge, just a quick update here and there. I figure it's be interesting, at least to me.
Be prepared, the wife's reactions will be most likely a sentence or two, since that is all I can usually get out of here after watching a movie.
Also, we won't actually watch EVERY movie. If we've both seen a movie and don't particularly want to watch it, we'll most likely skip it. If there is a movie I specifically don't want HER to watch (I Spit On Your Grave, Cannibal Holocaust, etc) then we will skip it as well. I will post which ones we skip though, just for reference.
Shall we?

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/08/10toMidnight.CharlesBronson.theatrical_poster.jpg/220px-10toMidnight.CharlesBronson.theatrical_poster.jpg
Matt: My first Charles Bronson film, he seems to have a "not care" attitude about his acting. I feel anyone could have been in that role. The film seems obsessed with sexualized violence. Props to the last act though, it was tense and the best thing about the film.
Michelle : It was funny, but I don't think it was suppose to be funny. Bad acting.

When I read the headline I was like "Nah. He ain't going to do that." I just had a feeling it meant watch every movie you own. But I was right, and you are crazy! :D
Haha but since it's just here and there and nothing you are bound to, I guess it isn't as bad. But when you finish DAMN that'll be a great feeling! :P don't know if I could do this myself though, holy crap...

2 Days in the Valley - #2
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a6/2daysinthevalley.jpg/220px-2daysinthevalley.jpg
So we have our first snafu. She decides that since the first number in 10 to midnight was a 1, it would go ahead of 2 days in the Valley. I didn't realize this until this was our next film. My way of putting it would have been from lowest # to highest. Meaning this would have been our #1. We have since then, re-arranged our #'d dvds...:p
Matt : A Pulp Fiction rip off with a decent cast. It's obvious this one was not only thrown together, but rushed out into production quickly to capitalize on the Pulp Fiction success. Lots of characters with different threads that don't tie up too neatly. This film is most remembered for the Terri Hatcher / Charlize Theron cat fight.
Michelle : I don't think I'm following this movie too well. It's a confusing plot and the film isn't very clear with anything.

Well for one thing, I think they are a little too extreme for her liking. I can't imagine her sitting through either of those movies.
She hates nudity in films too, which is why Showgirls is off the table :p.
Funny thing though, both of the films reviewed have nudity. 10 To Midnight is littered with it.

Yeah, there's a lot of stuff in mine that my wife definitely wouldn't watch. She doesn't mind some of the old classics, but for instance stuff like Grapes of Wrath, Ben-Hur, and Bridge on the River Kwai she would not like.

8 Mile - #3
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8b/Eight_mile_ver2.jpg/215px-Eight_mile_ver2.jpg
Matt: Eminem does a great job here even if he is somewhat playing himself. I was interested to see what other films Eminem might have pursued, but am left with nothing of importance. His willingness to show weakness is interesting here and the rap battles are always fun.
Michelle: It's pretty much what I expected from a movie about Eminem.

8 MM - #4
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/bc/8mm-film-poster.jpg/220px-8mm-film-poster.jpg
Matt: A dark film shot in the same style as Seven, yet without the master behind the camera. A hard to watch subject matter might scare some people away, but this crime mystery flick is underrated. Nic Cage carries the film and Gandolfini always played bad guys with class. He was so good in those roles, watching this film makes me miss him again.
Michelle: What with all the boobs? Every film we've watched has had boobs in it. I can't take Nic Cage seriously, he's too monotone.
*For the record, 8 Mile has no boobs :p *

8mm was written by the same screenwriter as Seven, so the similarities are there. It's a tad too long and I feel that Schumacher had an opportunity to include Cage's own daughter a bit more into the world of "possibilities" that Cage entered. Someone else's daughter was caught up in this, there was some more emotional play there that could have been explored.
10 to Midnight is cheap garbage and poorly made at that.
8 Mile is goofy fun from a director who could do better.
2 Days in the Valley is a terrible mess of a film that tries WAY too hard to be hip and cool, it comes off as desperate.

Not the best quality film overall, but I think 8mm is a really entertaining flick if you let yourself get into it and not be put off by the subject. It also has some solid performances.

Matt: A lot better on the second viewing. I still think I prefer this one to the original, even if the original is shot better and says more. I love the score, one of the best aspects of the film. Imogen Poots was very attractive in this and she did a good job in the role as well.
Michelle: Hey, THAT guy is in this (Jeremy Renner). Hey, THAT girl is in this, the Bridesmaids girl (Rose Byrne). Hey, Rumpelstiltskin is in this (Robert Carlyle). Hey, Idris Elba is in this!!! This is a big cast. It felt like every other zombie film.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/43/40-Year-OldVirginMoviePoster.jpg/220px-40-Year-OldVirginMoviePoster.jpg
Matt: Without a doubt my favourite Apatow flick, directed or produced. I feel like it started this whole comedy gang of Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, to a smaller extent Jonah Hill. The jokes felt fresh, it was a sweet story that had some crude humour, but not in your face or poorly used. One problem would be it is a bit too long, but all of Apatow's films are.
Michelle: This movie is too long. I don't find it that funny. I just don't like the movie.

Matt: A realistic view of a young man battling cancer. Jo-Go delivers a subtle performance with Rogen pulling the comedic elements as best he can. Like I've said before about Rogen, the poor guy cannot do anything but act like himself. He has never tried to do anything more.
Michelle : JGL is sooooo good, I really like him. I don't particularly like Seth Rogen though. I thought the film was very sad.

Matt: A realistic take on a relationship. The ups and downs, not guy meets girls, falls for girl, messes it up, gets girl back. Jo-Go and Zo have great chemistry together.
Michelle: Mmmmmmm...Joseph Gordon Levitt. Yeah, this movie was cute. It was good, I liked it. They are cute together, even if things don't work out. I like those two together.

Matt: Does for hotels today what The Shining did back in the 70's. A well done horror film that relies more on the creepy atmosphere of a hotel room, than anything else. Also includes a great moment where it pulls the rug out from under the audience.
