I'll add posters later

Birdman of Alcatraz

The Exterminating Angel

Harakiri

Lawrence of Arabia

Lolita

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

The Manchurian Candidate

The Music Man

To Kill a Mockingbird

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

You know the drill by now. You have a week to get in another ballot. This time you can vote for only up to five of these films, but you can choose to vote for just one, two, three, or four if you so choose.

I'm also a little surprised about Cape Fear not making the list.

But at least I've already seen 9 out of these 10 movies, so I only have 1 movie to watch before voting. :)

I'm really surprised about Cape Fear. I thought it had a chance at winning.

The Music Man is one of my all-time favorite musicals. Robert Preston was born to play Professor Harold Hill.

If you like musicals, you're in for a real treat. :)

I like the James Bond movies, but Dr. No isn't one of the better Bond movies. It's just an average movie.

And it has a big spider in the middle of the movie.

I love Dr No, surprised it's not here but even more surprised that Cape Fear isn't either. I didn't expect my couple of British 'kitchen sink' dramas would be on the final list. I'm very happy Harakiri is here :)

I just have to see The Music Man; I've never heard of it.

I thought everyone would have seen it in school or at least heard the "Ya Got Trouble" song.

If you've ever seen The Simpsons episode Marge vs. The Monorail it's a sort of parody of The Music Man.

I hope you like it when you watch it.

Cape Fear

I voted for The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner too, but two votes just weren't enough.

I might try running one of these tournaments one day, but now is a bad time for me. The holidays is the busiest time of the year for me, so I won't have the time to do it right now. (I'm still trying to find the time to review a bunch of animated movies I watched recently, but even with my short reviews, I haven't had the time to review them. )

Maybe in January when things slow down a little bit.

Godoggo
11-14-14, 07:21 PM
Yeah. This time of year I slow down a lot work wise so while everyone else is busier, I have more time. If no one else can do it, I can but I thought I'd give someone else a chance first so I'm not running absolutely everything. :D

I doubt I'll ever have a top movie on any of my lists make #1 on any lists here. Nobody ever agrees with me. :(

I'm rooting for Sunday in New York for #1 on the 1963 list if anyone wants to help, but I doubt anyone will vote for it.

I never seen Midnight Cowboy, maybe for the 69 list, I'll get around to it. My top choice would be one of the 3 big musicals in 69.

BTW I seen a movie from 1962 last night that might not have made the 62 list but it was good in a fun way, In Search of the Castaways. Anybody seen it?

Nope. Haven't seen it.

I had a look at your favorite movies and I would just about bet my hat that you're going to watch Midnight Cowboy and think "why haven't I seen this ten times by now?" to yourself. Don't wait for 1969 to come around. You should watch it soon.

I don't have much of a competitive nature. I like the tournaments because they're fun. I get to see movies that I would never even think about watching, and hear songs that I would never listen to on my own. I rarely find new favorites, but I've seen and heard a lot of great stuff in the tournaments.

I would be shocked if I ever won a contest here. Even the folk song tournament that I came in second place in was a fluke. I had no idea what songs to nominate. I just searched the Internet for folk songs that I recognized, and randomly picked a bunch of songs that I like. Basically, I just got lucky. :)

In Search of the Castaways is a Disney Film from 1962 with Haley Mills and Maurice Chevalier. It's based on a Jules Verne story. I should review it. It reminded me of Five Weeks in a Ballon, but better. Not great, just fun.

Unfortunately, it's not very hard to be better than Five Weeks in a Balloon, but if it's Disney, and based on a Jules Verne story, that enough for me to give it a chance.

Lawrence of Arabia is a predictable victor, but a worthy one. Personally, I was hoping that The Manchurian Candidate or The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance would pull off the upset.

GBG, I think all of your choices are fine ones, ( a few of those I haven't seen).

My top 10

1 Carnival of Souls
2 The Music Man
3 Mutiny on the Bounty
4 Requiem for a Heavyweight
5 Walk On the Wild Side
6 Birdman of Alcatraz
7 To Kill a Mockingbird
8 How the West Was Won
9 What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?
10 Lawrence of Arabia

I would have had Lawrence of Arabia as 1, but I knew it would make the short list of 5 anyway. I was hoping for a little love for Carnival of Souls.
