I really don't see the point when we have the shoutbox. Regardless of how long it takes to load/post/whatever. I have been a member of boards where the chat feature has been implemented and then watched as it became a baron wasteland of people typing, "Anyone there?" over and over. And it just a pointless addition when we have a shoutbox that is getting used. Add a chat room and you risk the chance of both shoutbox and chat room become redundant and desolate because some people use one, some use the other, and both get swept away when no one knows where everyone else is going.
The way I see it [is outlined above of course] is that if you want to chat with other MoFos, get their ICQ or AIM or Y! or MSN information [it is included in their profile!] and add them to your list and chat that way. Because adding a chat room, to me, anyway, is just redundant and pointless [much like this second paragraph of the post].

well,
I disagree.
I think for the majority of the time the shoutbox is fine.
But there are days when, I would rather CHAT then post in the shoutbox and wait.....
There is a differance. In chat it would be instant...
Some folks have ICQ, others have MSN and some dont have any, and some has all. And as I learned today some have but dont use because it causes them to crash *ahem*... who cares. It would be a feature, that I PERSONALLY, would enjoy having.... if you dont want to use it then dont, who cares, but I still think the option should be there.
I think it would be fun.
But hey, I was just throwing out an idea I had been "wishing" was here for a while.
I agree with Filmfr3ak. It would a real fun idea.:yup: :D
It'd be Java, actually (amazingly it's almost wholly different from JavaScript, despite the name; common mistake). I'll look into some suitable chat clients before long, if I get some free time this weekend. Incidentially, this reminds me of an old vB hack I started, but never finished. :yup: Maybe I should try to finish it...
hmmm i dont know, i do personally agree with SB, ive always thought of this place as Forums first, shoutbox second but with a chatroom, i feel the forums will immediatly become secondary....
also i dont want my name not on the shoutbox leaderboard :D

I think we should keep the shoutbox too...
cause sometimes I just dont feel like "chatting" persay...
I would rather browse around the forum, and then hit the shouotbox in between posts...
but there have been days when there really wasnt anything to "post" so I just hang out in the shoutbox waiting and fu**ing refreshing:sick:
anyhoo....
it was just an idea....
lol...honestly I have a forum AND a chat room on my site and NEITHER of them get used... LOL
sad I know, but true.
Whats your site? It just seems strange that we have a chatroom AND shoutbox, i mean when you think about it, if we follow SB's suggestion of an autorefresher, it works in the same basic way but hey chat room or shoutbox, im not fussed but if your going to have one, i doubt the other will be really needed.
To me, like all here, the forums do come first. As for the shoutbox I really don't use it.
The reason I like chatroom is to talk to people in real time.
Hey, there's always IM. :yup:
Well no point discussing it, its in Chris's hands now.

FF and jrs, you're right it would be fun for you to have a chat room here, or at least try one out.
But I'm afraid I have to agree with SB and Naisy on this one. There can be nothing said in a chat room that can't be said in the shoutbox or a thread.
Chat rooms consist of people who like to type the word fu*k over and over, pretend to be over 18, and disrespect those online in general. I'm not saying that would happen here, but if you have ever participated in such a room, you'll know that the odds of that happening are pretty high.
I like MoFo because the posts are well thought out, not top-of-your-head ramblings--I think it's more intellegent and creative to have a well thought out conversation than one that consists of trite banter. But. that's just me, and FF you're right; I don't have to participate if I don't want to.
But, if anyone's asking, my vote is no.

I agree with you there.
As for chat rooms and the like....I like em as i said due to live one on one.
I think about it and IM is much better. (Including shoutbox too) :yup:
