Just watched the pilot for this sitcom starring Karen Gillan as Eliza Dooley (worst character name in decades, but I digress), a former ugly duckling who is now hot, but also the most self-absorbed and selfish creature on the planet. John Cho plays a co-worker who has taken it upon himself to turn her into a tolerable human being and I guess that's where her character name comes from, as Cho's character seems to be Eliza's Henry Higgins. Cho is fabulous, as always, but Gillan's character is really unlikable and the chemistry between the two characters isn't there. The writing is a little smug and too sure of itself. Cho is great but I don't know if his presence is enough to sustain interest here. I will check out a couple of more episodes, but the committee is DEFINITELY still out on this one.

I watched the first episode of "Selfie" and I hated it. I liked Cho's character, but I hated everything else about the show.

I watched this last week while waiting for another show to come on. Gillan's character was definately a lot more tragic than I would have thought - the ugly duck turned into a social butterfly, only to find that her vapid existence has left her with no meaningful relationships of any kind and she's still on the outside of the social circles.
Ultimately I didn't find the show funny at all. The show wastes its leads, I really don't care to watch anybody develop over the coming episodes (even Gillan's character that, like I said before, is really, really sad) and it's far more awkward than entertaining (a complaint that I had about the first season of The Big Bang Theory, although this too may recover from it).

Just watched episode two and I'm finding the only redeeming quality of this series is still John Cho. He is hysterically funny as this anal-attentive Henry Higgins type determined to change this contemporary Eliza into something people can tolerate but I'm still not sure if Cho is reason enough to keep tuning in.

Just read on www.tv.com that this show has been cancelled....there is a god...John Cho deserves so much better.
