Django/Friend and the End of Days Movie Forum

At the turn of the millenium (3 years ago), box-office heavyweight Arnold Schwarzenegger released the extremely mediocre movie End of Days in which he single-handedly takes on the devil and dukes it out with him in the streets of Manhattan. To publicize the release of that ridiculous action movie, Universal Pictures launched the End of Days forum on its website--a message board for movie buffs to discuss the movie and exchange ideas. Ironically, the message-board, in its bizarre way, seems to have been far more popular and profound in its impact than the movie ever was. The participants of the forum seem to have turned into pseudo-celebrities after a fashion, a role that I, for one, being your average man on the street, have been ill-equipped to handle.

What started out as an entertaining and informative discussion about the movies, religion and apocalyptic prophecies quickly degenerated into absolute anarchy and maybem. My public image and reputation were severely damaged through my involvement in the forum and, inadvertently, in the resulting mess. Things got so out of hand that, ultimately, Universal Pictures had to close down its message-board and forum, which was plagued with a relentless barrage of hate-mongers sabotaging any remote possibility for intelligent conversation or the healthy exchange of ideas. Profanity and hatred thrived while racial and misogynistic slurs were hurled across at lightning speed. What made matters worse was that September 11, 2001 came along and the message-board turned into a full-fledged race war. White supremacists ranted and raved against minorities, while minorities retaliated with equal fury. I tried, as far as I could, to assume a conciliatory role in this madhouse, but it did not go very far. Chaos reigned until the forum was, ultimately, shut down--for the best at the time, I thought.

I am back, now, to set the record straight and clear up my reputation, as best as I can. I posted on the Universal Pictures message-boards under the pen names of "Django" and "Friend". I want to present, for anyone interested, a clear, unbiased self-portrait and field questions from anyone who might have any concerns about my past conduct or character or beliefs.

About Me
I am an intelligent, well-educated adult male in his 30's. I currently work and reside in San Francisco, CA, but I am, originally, from Bombay, India. I am of average height and build, dark-haired and with a healthy tan. I work as a professional software engineer, my fields of specialization being Java and Internet development. I come from a solid middle-class family background and I have a strong academic and extra-curricular record. I boxed in high school and was a lifeguard in university. I currently play racquetball and squash, work out (cardio), run and swim laps at the YMCA to stay in shape. I have never smoked or dabbled in drugs in my life, and I drink only in moderation--and usually only beer and wine. I am a believing Christian, though not necessarily a church-going one. I was baptized in my university in 1990/91. I am heterosexual and I plan to re-enter the dating scene once I have established myself in the US. I enjoy writing fiction, reading and cartooning as hobbies. I am clean cut and I lead a wholesome life. I believe in positive thinking and being constructive and optimistic about the future.

If anybody out there has any questions or concerns about me, now is the time to confront me and make yourself heard. I will be glad to clarify any issues you may have about or against me. However, I am not interested in salacious rumors or lies or malicious innuendo. If your purpose is only to attack my character by publishing lies and vicious innuendo about me, whether racially motivated or otherwise, I request you to kindly refrain from posting in this thread. I want to try and keep this discussion clean and informative and stick to the issues that I have set out to discuss. If you wish to contact me personally, you may do so by emailing me at [email protected].

Thanks for your time and best regards for the future.

I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to find anyone here who would post any racially offensive comments...

I have some questions concerning your introduction, though. (One of you crazy moderators should move this to the "Birthdays and Introductions" section)

I am back, now, to set the record straight and clear up my reputation, as best as I can. Have you been here before?
I posted on the Universal Pictures message-boards under the pen names of "Django" and "Friend". I want to present, for anyone interested, a clear, unbiased self-portrait and field questions from anyone who might have any concerns about my past conduct or character or beliefs.
Why have you chosen this particular forum to inform people of what you've been doing?

And there is something else about this post that I don't quite understand: do you believe that you are a celebrity of some sort? Because I really can't understand why anyone would have anything to say for or against you I will be glad to clarify any issues you may have about or against me. However, I am not interested in salacious rumors or lies or malicious innuendo. If your purpose is only to attack my character by publishing lies and vicious innuendo about me, whether racially motivated or otherwise, I request you to kindly refrain from posting in this thread as this is your first post.

Regardless, welcome to the site, and happy posting.

Hello there. What did you think about End of Days ?

many people have been scarred by other forums (i have)...don't sweat it, its usually just kids that don;t know any better trying to incite some crap for their enjoyment...just let your browser do the talking (don't visit the site!!!!)

as for us, we don't sling slurs of any kind....we just talk about what we love - MOVIES....a quick look at recent threads will back me up on that

enjoy your stay :) and don't worry about "that other forum"...we are nice people :D

Herod:

Actually, the word I used was "pseudo-celebrity". No, I don't think of myself as a celebrity, only that my involvement in the old End of Days movie forum resulted in my creating a totally skewed reputation of myself, one that I was trying to straighten out with my post above.

This is the first time I have posted in this forum. I chose this forum, along with a bunch of other randomly selected movie message-boards, for no particular reason. I just wanted to express myself about my weird experience on the EOD forum somehow and figured that the best place to do so would be on other movie message boards.

I'm not saying that anyone has anything against me. Like I said, I'm trying to set the record straight regarding what went on in the End of Days movie forum.

Thanks for the welcome! :)

miniontv:

End of Days was probably Ah-nuld's biggest mistake in his career! It was a major joke and a very, very bad movie! Let's hope he lives up to his rep in T3!

n7of9:

Thanks for the encouragement! Actually, things got so bad in the Universal Pictures forum, that they eventually shut it down! And that was over a year ago! It's still down with no hope of ever recovering! Glad to hear that you folks are nice people! I look forward to debating the movies with you. Take care!

Django, I've never heard of forum mental abuse before, at least none that could cause mistrust or apprehension on a member to not join another one. I think you'll find a variety of opinions here, but none so extreme as to what you've described above.

I'm sure if any of the problems you had at the EOD site were to begin here, they would end quickly, and justly.

Django
02-10-03, 05:04 AM
I'm glad to hear you say that!

Again, it's not so much that I feel mistrust or apprehension, only that I wanted to express myself and set the record straight about my past experiences on a movie message board. I'm sure this is a very different environment from the previous one and that I won't be seeing anything remotely like what I went through there.

But, believe me, it was one of the most psychologically trying experiences of my life! And it was all "virtual reality", to boot--I mean everything that "happened" on that forum never really happened at all--it was all fantasy--just people writing crazy things. It is hard to imagine that words--text--can have such a profound psychological effect on people's minds. You had to have been there and experienced it firsthand to have believed it. It was really like being in the "Matrix" or the "Twilight Zone" or something--entering some weird new dimension in which everything was totally whacko! Like I said, you should have been there and seen it for yourself.

I was kicked out of a forum before. I have a record.

It is all documented HERE (http://storm.prohosting.com/~mattjc/reel/trs/thereelstory.html).

You'd be suprised. MoFo is the only BB I have ever been a member was that didn't fold while I was a member. Not that they all folded because of me [one because of others / one because of cash]. Only one ever folded because of me [and five other guys]. But that one deserved to and we were in the right.

Oh, follow the link...

Hi again Django… I have encountered a few forums like you described and I get the impression you were afraid someone on here might be a leftover from the Universal board? I don’t think you have anything to worry about … the regulars on here all have class and as far as I’m concerned are the best on the net… :yup:

Django
02-10-03, 05:15 PM
Hi Caitlyn, thanks for the reassuring words. I needed that! I still get the jitters and nightmares when I remember the End Of Days movie forum! It was a complete lunatic asylum! I never could have imagined that things could get so bad on a movie forum. It got so bad that I was receiving death threats and people were threatening to beat me up! It was totally insane and outrageous!

Sir Toose, thanks for the welcome and sorry about the excess baggage. I thought it best to explain myself up front to pre-empt any misunderstandings in the future. Also, I wanted to clear up my online reputation as best as I could. I always thought that the Internet is so vast that one's anonymity could always be preserved no matter what. I'm not so sure anymore, so I thought it best to come clean from the outset.

Silver Bullet, I wasn't kicked out of the EOD forum. It's just that the forum was hijacked by a group of weirdoes who seemed to be incapable of intelligent conversation, thriving on racial slurs and profanity. Ultimately, it got so out of hand that the Universal shut down the entire forum. I just wish I had never been involved in the mayhem.

I guess there's a lesson in what happened there for all of us. This forum seems well managed and regulated, though, so I guess something like that probably will not recur in here.

Great meeting you all and here's hoping for some intelligent discussions and the healthy exchange of ideas. Take it easy!

Hey, when I joined the forum, I gave everyone a fair warning. Basically, I have not said anything profane or insulting towards anyone. All I have done is addressed sensitive, controversial issues in a civilized fashion (as far as possible). I can't be held responsible if others take offense. If I treaded on any toes, I apologize. All I can say is that I tried to conduct myself in the best way possible. I did not spam threads. I contained myself to the discussion threads that I either started or got engaged/involved in. I am in no way responsible if there is ill feeling all the way around.

If you guys are unhappy with my presence on the forum, then I'll tell you what I'll do. Since you guys are too nice, I will myself conduct a poll on whether I should stay or leave. If the majority says I should leave, I will voluntarily quit the forum for good.

Why does he have to go? Is it because he's anti-war or other things? You guys remind me of the movie Pleasantville, anyone with different views must be cast out. Isn't America the place where people come to be free from political and religious persecution? People aren't supposed to be punished for their beliefs or did you forget? I've seen a lot of Super-Americans spout anti-american things lately. The term "ugly American" would fit a lot of people.

Leave him alone, he has the right to be pro-peace, so do I. You have the right to be pro-war. We're supposed to live together in perfect harmony. That's what America is all about, that's what our goal is as Americans.

BTW, when I used to post at a different site (MV) I was ridden pretty hard and ridiculed for my views... remember?

Let me emphasize something; I AM NOT PRO-WAR!

There is just nothing that can be done about it now. I look forward to making some changes in this country in the future, but as for now, Bush is handeling things, he is in power. Those are the rules--I don't like it---but he won(?), he gets to run the country! If you're not happy with that then protest, excercise your right to free speech without being insulting or hateful, plan a coup, but don't insult people like Yoda, Toose. These guys are smart, gracious and respectable people who don't deserve to be insulted. Fight them at the polls, if you can't fight them with your words.

Otherwise ignore them, thoughtfully engage them, or leave.

Comprendez?

His leaving has nothing to do with his views, but with his idea of how to behave on a bulletin board. He posts the same thread in ten different guises, and makes polls about himself. It is all so self absorbed.

I didn't say I had to go either. I just wanted to get a sense of whether the majority wanted me to leave this forum or not. I was getting antagonized by some people, and I wanted to get a sense of how bad it was, that is all. I was not being self-absorbed by creating the poll at all. I honestly cannot understand why Silver Bullet keeps accusing me of being self-absorbed.

I never said anyone was kicking me out. I was just getting a lot of flak in here and I posted the poll to find out how bad it was. But it seems that the majority doesn't mind me sticking around, so I'll hang around. And I don't keep pretending to leave either. I don't understand why you must make up this crap about me. One time, I said that I was going to quit the forum temporarily because I was too busy with work to post regularly. But I said I'd be returning in the future. And I did take a temporary leave of absence from the forum, just like I said. So what is the big deal?

Either you are totally out of touch with reality, or you are a shameless liar, or you are insane, or just a plain a$$hole! I have posted only using the "Django" identity, except for a few posts I made in the guise of the "Fascist Pig"--an identity I created based on a certain jerk I happen to know (though not as a personal acquaintance). The poll I made, as I explained above, was not intended to be self-absorbed, but only to get a feel about popular opinion concerning myself, and only because a$$holes like you insist on antagonizing me for no conceivable reason. As I said, none of it is self-absorbed. You only say it is, and you are a ****** liar, you freak! :p Besides which, you seriously get on my nerves!

The reason why hes doing it is he has no self confidence (maybe I wouldn't if I was Django either). He has to ask everyone permission it stay or go, just so he can hear how much he is loved, and thus build his ego. He wants to know that we care. He doesn't realize that most of us see through this charade, and file these kinds of posts under weakness. Django, (as Bruce Willis might say), needs to cowboy the f*ck up, make his own decisions for himself and stop asking how much he is loved. Grow up Django. This thread is so terribly terribly interesting. And I really mean it.
Look at the thing, it chronicles Django's entire stay here. From the mainly nice introductory posts, to the sudden turn around. It really reads like something amazing, describing Django's stay here from a neat perspective.

Truly unlike Django himself, in that this is a MoFo treasure.

I hate to say it, but Django, you brought it on yourself! The whole "About Me" section was arrogant and loaded with bragging about how you've never smoked or taken drugs. We don't care if you have a lung disease from smoking. LordSlaytan's always talking about how he's been to jail before. It wasn't anything really serious, but either way, I wouldn't care. Not after I've already gotten to know him. Just curious, but did you think that you actually had to clear your name, or did you make this thread to call attention to yourself and try to make yourself a "pseudo-celebrity"?

FYI: Everyone picks on new people. It happened to n7of9, Nikki, miniontv, even me! I used to hate miniontv, but now I know better. So maybe if you'd just try to fit in a little bit and poke fun at everyone just like everybody else, then maybe no one would be giving you you're well-deserved name-calling. I can't say that I speak for Silver, though. It has a mind of it's own.

Just one more questions: 1. What's your real name?

It has nothing to do with my confidence. What I wanted to check and see, by posting my poll, is whether or not I was up against the entire forum. I wasn't going to stick on here if the entire forum was up in arms against me. Turns out that the poll results show otherwise. So I'm still hanging around. There is no charade at all.

What, I brought it all on by posting an introductory thread?!! No, the real reason I have so many antagonists hounding me is because of my posts opposing the Iraq war and George W. Bush! That has made me unpopular with all the loud-mouthed jingoistic whackos on this forum, and, at the same time, made me popular with the silent masses who share my views. That was another reason for my poll--to demonstrate that the silent masses agree with me. About my real name--it is posted in the poetry and drama threads.

Pid doesn't like the war. But I like him. And so do all the other "loud-mouted jingoistic whackos." You may not want to admit it, but it's not your politics that cause people to unlike you, because others who share your views are very well-liked. This may be hard for you to accept, but it's just YOU that people aren't taking to.

 Silent majority? It was 7-5, and three of your four biggest detractors didn't even bother to vote because they thought it was all a pointless narcissistic exercise. It's depressing that you'd try to extract some kind of approval from that.

This makes me jealous of Django. He at least gets noticed enough to be hated. Its as if no one cares about me. Oh well.......More tears......Maybe I could start a poll like Django to make myself feel better!

Look, you don't even know me! Just goes to show how small-minded you are. Your hatred doesn't even have a cause. You really hate me because of my politics and only after that you rationalize your hatred with all sorts of shallow BS.

 Silent majority? It was 7-5, and three of your four biggest detractors didn't even bother to vote because they thought it was all a pointless narcissistic exercise. It's depressing that you'd try to extract some kind of approval from that.

If you really want to know what people think, start another poll: Do you enjoy my posting here? Two options: yes, and no.
It was not a pointless narcissistic exercise and it was not 7-5 either. I don't know what sort of moronic thrill you get out of repeating yourself endlessly like some stuck record, but, truth to tell, I find it boring. I don't find it depressing--all I wanted to know is whether or not the overwhelming majority of the board wanted me out of here, and the statistics prove otherwise.

The only reason I get hated is because certain ignoramuses on this board resent my intelligence and politics. Either that, or it's racially motivated. Anyway, it doesn't bother me! If people like you hate me, I consider it a compliment, actually! What would bother me is if you started actually liking me, for some reason! As they say, if you are unpopular in a school of idiots, be happy! :D

I don't care enough about you to hate you. Again with the self-aggrandizement. Furthermore, I've already demonstrated why your "you hate me because of my politics" claim doesn't hold up. You get a D in Reading Comprehension.

Oh, also, I like the way you say I "don't even know" you, and then launch into a full-blown character assault of me, whom you don't know. Neat.

For the last time: no, they don't, as most of your detractors didn't vote. I've, uh, said this a bunch of times already. You're looking at the answers without stopping to consider whether or not you were asking the right question. Which you were not. The people who dislike you don't think you should go. They just think you should stop being so self-absorbed and pretentious.

I had no idea you were against war and George Bush, and everyone happens to be a wacko here, but you're theo only wacko who's actually serious. My opinion of you wouldn't change in you had every single person who's registered on your side. And some people who are part of your "silent mass" are, on other threads, part of a larger group. You brought it on yourself by taking everything way too seriously, and you make a poll about yourself and see if you should leave based on a few humorous jabs that, to you, implied that you're not welcome. We don't judge people that quickly unless we know that they're wackos, which is the case here. So don't jump to the conclusion that we jump to conclusions about new people.
