In this thread I will chronicle my favorite video games that I have played of all time. I will be posting at least fifty, it may be more than that though. This list will be like SCs movie list in that their will be no specific order to this countdown, but each entry is one near and dear to my heart as a video game fan. 1. Tecmo Super Bowl
http://cdn.horriblenight.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Tecmo.png
Ok, I clearly lied about there being no true order to this count down to a degree, because this is by far and away the number one game that I have ever played in my lifetime with a lot of history attached to it. I used to play this with my friends all the time and we would go through countless full seasons on here, playing literally every game on the schedule. The two of us both had 6 core teams that we used all the time. We kept the 49ers and Chiefs as two neutral teams that we neither could 100% claim. My teams were the Bills, Giants, Oilers, Broncos, Saints, and Packers. His teams were the Raiders, Jets, Bears, Eagles, Rams, and Colts.

So many memorable moments with this one, but my favorite was the year that I took the Giants to the Super Bowl in it, where I beat his Raiders 13-10. And much surprisingly, my only touchdown came on the defense, which was a true rarity in this game.

We became true stat freaks with this game, trying to get certain players,to be among the league leaders in certain categories. It certainly was competitive. The game has many other fun elements, from throwing with Warren Moon, to running all over the field with Bo Jackson to running over people with Christian Okoye. There will never be a sport game that will ever come close to paralleling this one. My favorite players is a list that could go on forever but would certainly include Warren Moon. Lawrence Taylor, QB Bills, Ozzie Newsome, Marv Cook, Christian Okoye, Art Monk, David Meggett, Andre Reed, Thurman Thomas, Derrick Thomas, Ray Agnew, and Pepper Johnson.

Nearby in my state there is a yearly Tecmo Super Bowl tournament that I really need to compete in one of these years. I think I would be pretty tough to beat with the Bills or the Giants.

Overall, a game that has shaped my life as a gamer. A true legendary classic.

Bo sweep right. I loved Tecmo Super Bowl. If I am not mistaken it was the first game that used the player's names, which was huge for me back then. You didn't put the year, but I had to be 11 or 12 when this came out. Super fun, but truth be told, doesn't hold a candle to the Madden franchise for me.

Good idea for a thread Raul, i do hope that Lightning on the poster was a mistake though because i really disliked FF13 ;). Never played Tecmo Super Bowl or any other NFL game, but i just watched a video on YT and thought it looked like alot of fun if you were familiar with the sport of course.

2. Pitfall 3D

http://199.101.98.242/media/shots/37382-Pitfall_3D_-_Beyond_The_Jungle_%5BNTSC-U%5D-5.jpg

I am talking about the Pitfall version from the original version of Playstation. I remember getting really angry with this game a lot people it was at first impossible for me to figure out. It all started with a demo disc that had a sample of this game on it. I became hooked with that and bought this game as well and the rest is history. I only truly remember conquering it once, and I remember it was very difficult back in the day, but I am truly a fan of the type of video game that has a man swinging on a rope and going on an adventure. Plus, it used to give me a good laugh with some of the things that the main character said. Actually, Bruce Campbell provided the voice for the main character in this one (Hope you see this, Miss Vicky).

Honestly if it wasn't for my kids I don't think I would have a console anymore. I enjoy playing sports games with them. Plus they like the Leggo games which are easy for me to play with them. When they get into FPS, I am done for.

Cool idea for a thread.

I played Tecmo Super Bowl as a kid, but I was too young to be any good at it (which is a trend with pretty much all NES games). My brother beat me up at one point for erasing his season.

Never played Pitfall 3D.

Good idea for a thread. I don't know if it was me or being that young, but Nintendo games were more difficult than anything else I have ever played. When the Genesis and Super came out with continues and difficulty settings... In this day of internet, few will realize that your only hope for a tuff game used to be a Nintendo Power or EGM.

3. Wave Race 64
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b2/N64_Wave_Race_64.jpg

I've always thought that racing games were among the most exciting and competitive video games around. This one was just plain fun. I remember going over to a friends house and we played this for hours on end. The gameplay itself was fairly simple and of course the graphics weren't anything earth shattering at all, but the courses themselves were quite fun.

Captain Spaulding

The Nintendo 64 is my favorite console, so many of my favorite games are from that generation, but I don't think I ever played Wave Rave 64.

4. Hot Shots Golf 2

http://i.neoseeker.com/p/Games/Playstation/Sports/Golf/hotgolf2_profilelarge.jpg

I was damn dominant at this game. I remember on 18 holes I recorded a score of 17 under once, with 3 eagles. I had a few hole in ones throughout my time playing this as well. The courses are what make it fun. There are a lot of courses that are fun to play and would be great if there were real courses that were just as enjoyable. I also liked the mini golf feature on this game, it was quite fun. The characters in this game were interesting and some of them could drive it a mile. Sweet Tooth comes to mind, but overall I believe my favorite golfer may have been Mel. What else can I say basically this was a game that was designed for me.

5. Oregon Trail
http://www.geeksaresexy.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/oregontrail.jpg
Perhaps the first video game I ever played was this one, as early as second grade in my media class. It was a favorite for all students, mainly because it was more fun than education. It was actually a pretty tough game too, it was always hard to keep the people in your wagon healthy. In fact, I think I really only conquered the game a couple of times. And of course, it was always fun to hunt. I'd be interested to know if any of the rest of you have even played this one on the good old green and black screen.

I used to race through my work in computer lab so I could play Oregon Trail. I also played some game where you control fish, and I loved it because you could be a bunch of different species. I don't really remember what you were supposed to do other than eat and try not to be eaten. I wish I could remember what it was called.

O' when a Mac meant Macintosh and those damn river crossings.

It may be an age thing, but the Nintendo was probably my fav just because it was first.

Mega Man (and its cousin DuckTales), Castlevania, T&C Surf Design, Ninja Gaiden, Robocop, Narc, Metal Gear, Super Mario 3, Punch Out, ExciteBike (overheating again? #$%#$%* :#), Super Sprint, Golgo 13...

And yes, I had a PowerPad.

Man, Oregon Trail was so much fun. I have no idea why, but it was. Yeah, NES may be my all time fave as well. Hit me at just the right age, I was 13 when it came out. DD mentioned some great ones so I won't repeat. Besides, I have a feeling we will see some.

My brother loves golf, and I've played some cartoonish golfing game with him in the past, but I'm not sure if it was Hot Shots Golf 2 or not. As someone who hates golf, however, it's not something I'd choose to play on my own. (Although playing golf on the Wii is fun.)

Oregon Trail, though--- man, that brings back memories. Did every school in the world have that game or something? I don't know anyone who played it at home, but we all played it at school when we'd get done with our schoolwork with time to spare before the bell. Very nostalgic choice.

6. Heavy Rain

http://static.tumblr.com/73xd9qg/xX3lpulq3/heavyrain.png

In the minds of true gamers, this game is probably old as dirt. To me it's one of the newer games that I've truly enjoyed. I like the whole concept of an origami killer and I like how the game has a goosebumps type of feel to it in meaning that you chose your Destiny in the game. I must have been good at choosing because I think I only died one time prior to conquering it. But I remember going back through and trying different scenarios and it was still quite fun. It be interested on what everyone else's thoughts are on this one as the gameplay seemed like it was tailored towards a person like me.

http://download.gamezone.com/uploads/image/data/960082/guitarhero2sc1.jpg

Nothing better than rocking out to some guitar hero. This is the game that revolutionized video games for me. In college. My roommates and I would play this for countless hours on end, and it was a lot of fun to duel. I believe I got 100% on Incubus-Stellar as well as Message in a Bottle by the Police. Some of my other favorite sounds to rock out on the first one were Even Rats by The Slip, Bark at the Moon by Ozzy Osbourne, Fat Lip by Sum 41, Killer Queen by Queen, More than a Feeling by Boston, and Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top. I actually remember my friends bought the game, but yet somehow it stayed in my dorm room and I eventually came to own it. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

There's a modern zombie version called Organ Trail, if you'd rather, SC.

Guitar Hero (and games of its ilk) are one of only two games I've ever seen at cons which are always full no matter what. There's never a queue beacuse people play it for so long that you can't guarantee getting a go. My g/f and I slaughtered many a zombie this year, while various rock songs were being mauled in the background on Rock Group or whatever the full band version's called.

Heavy Rain was one of the few games I platinumed on the 3, because I enjoyed playing it that much. Some don't like that style, but my gaming roots steer me towards stuff like this. I was always excited for Tecmo games, because they always had "cinema" scenes (cut scenes now). I don't mind setting the controller down and enjoying a little exposition.

Maniac Mansion was absurd. That was a Nintendo Power must have game. Loved it, before weird was cool.

This is a fun game with many fun levels. My favorite video game that involves planes. Simple, yet oh so effective. Aliens have invaded earth, trying to drain Earths energy and use it for themselves. I like that there are different types of missiles and bombs to use. I don't think I've ever conquered this game as the gameplay gets faster the further you get in the levels, but it definitely was addicting to say the least.

While I realistically wasn't that great at this game and my friends were both insanely good at the game and equally obsessed with it, I spent many a high school weekends playing this game with them. It was a fun and addicting game certainly. The only thing that I had ever played on this game was the multiplayer, and we would have two groups of four people in each room. We would battle back and forth playing capture the flag (also fun in that one to snipe people) and I don't remember exactly what it was called but the game where you just try to get the most kills. The maps in this game were really solid in my opinion and added a fun touch to the game. While I wasn't as obsessed with this as others, it's no doubt a good game due to the fact that you could round your friends up and have something to do in the middle of the night that would keep you out of trouble.

Heavy Rain was a lot of fun. It did make me go back and try different outcomes, which had different consequences, unlike The Walking Dead game. It was very cinematic and I can see them trying to produce a film out of it.

I always preferred Jet Moto over Wave Racer, sure they are different games, but I never got into that series.

10. Donkey Kong- Gameboy Version

http://images.eurogamer.net/modojo.com/features/355/donkey.jpg

The thing in common with all these games is having me glued at the hip. I can remember that my uncle actually used to have a Game Boy before me and that I always played this game while at his house. He really like this game as well at the time and had taught me how to play it.

Some of the levels would get insanely complicated as all hell but the thing that drove me batty was when you had the key, would get hit by an enemy and here that music get faster and faster until you couldn't get back to the key in time which meant that the key automatically went back to the place that it originated. Oh and of course it was always tough to build your ladders so that you were able to get to where you needed to go. One always had to remember to get their hat umbrella and (what the heck was that other item?) Donkey Kong was a true video game legend and his importance in the industry should not be dismissed. While I could have chosen a few of his other games for this list (and I still could, potentially), my nostalgia factors in and I decided to go with the one that I first played.

11. Theme Park Roller Coaster (PS2)

http://assets1.ignimgs.com/2000/08/18/tprollercoaster_4-176907_320w.jpg

I've always been intrigued on the concept of building my own theme part in real life, and I'm a pretty big fan of planning and architecture as a whole, so in a way the design of the game is pretty much made for me. What I love most about this game is that there are many different theme concepts, such as a Halloween theme park, a space theme park, and a dinosaur theme park. I was pretty damn good at building some insane roller coasters and I always made should that my guests loved my theme park by of course providing enough game booths and restaurants. These types of games have always caught my eye, including the first original one on the Playstation console, but I ultimately decided that this was the one that should make my list.

I recall playing other games on the Apple II, but I don;t think they were apple games. Stuff like Zork, Adventure!, and the Infocom stuff...Also Legends of Alkabeth, which I think was a Richard Garriot game.

I didn't own a Xbox until my brother gave me his after he bought a Xbox 360, so I was late to the party with a lot of Xbox games. However, I used to play Halo at my friend's house. The multiplayer wasn't much fun since he regularly kicked my ass, but I really enjoyed playing the campaign together.

It wasn't Theme Park Roller Coaster, but I had some kind of theme park simulation game for my PC that I used to enjoy playing.

12. Crash Bandicoot 2

http://xgm.guru/files/335/69636/Screenshot3.jpg

This won't be the last we see of Crash Bandicoot, who is the Playstation version of Mario. Not only were the levels fun they always had mini things inside the levels, such as getting a gem if you could crash every box in the level. The bosses themselves weren't super tough but they were not a cakewalk either. Levels that had Crash doing things like riding a polar bear were always my favorite. And Dr. Cortex always made a great villain in my opinion.

The main room, where you chose which level to go into was pretty cool in my opinion. Always great to see Crash give the thumbs up so that you could move onto the next room. Aku Aku (the mask) and Coco Bandicoot where there to aid Crash on his journey as well. Levels varied from Snow levels to chase levels to mechanic levels to mountain levels to wood levels, but my favorite levels were the levels where Crash was able to use a jet pack. Lots and lots of fun for me.

Again, another game that I truly do not remember conquering as it was really tough for my younger self, but I remember that this one was a lot of fun. It's games like this that I would really like to return to to see if the older me would have any chance of winning in a game like this. I don't have a lot to say about it as it has been such a long time that I have played it, but I definitely couldn't leave this off my list. My inner self is telling me more and more that I need to fire up the old Nintendo again, as many of my following entries will show you. There's truly some non popular films for the NES that I just absolutely loved, such as Kid Icarus.

Game Boy Donkey Kong is great. I beat that game at some point in the 90s, all 101 levels. Although the first few levels are taken from the arcade for the most part the game is closer to Wrecking Crew (an under-rated gem for the NES) than classic DK. Also love Wave Race 64. Kid Icarus I just don't see the appeal though.

So far my favorites here are Oregon Trail, Heavy Rain and Wave Runner. I used to love renting Wave Runner when I played the 64 (Still have it in the closet somewhere) and racing with my cousins. Another one that I loved on the 64 was 1080. It was a snow boarding game. Oregon Trail we played at lab time in elementary. It was TONS of fun. Heavy Rain was the first game that I bought when I got the PS3. I enjoyed it, but it isn't one of my favorites that I have. I was pretty pissed that I paid full price for it actually. LOL! Granted its fun to have your decisions make a difference, but the killer is always the same guy and the deaths remain pretty much the same through out. If they had changed who the killer was based on different decisions that could have been cool.

http://199.101.98.242/media/shots/69914-Wario_Land_-_Super_Mario_Land_3_(World)-3.png

A fun spinoff of the traditional Mario games. I loved how Wario could pick up and chuck some of his enemies. The goal for Wario is to get as much treasure as possible. I thought the game was pretty inventive and it was fun to have Wario with a helmet in action, especially the Jet helmet was a lot of fun to use. I'm pretty sure I conquered the game, but I would honestly have to revisit it to truly remember whether or not I did. It was a really fun game and much superior to the first Mario game on Gameboy.

21. Jet Moto
http://www.thesilentprotagonists.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/968full-jet-moto-2-screenshot.jpg

THE best racing game of all time is Jet Moto. This game has ten great tracks to run on and there is nothing more full than running a full season campaign in this game. There are four different themes of tracks, and each of them has their own suicide course (my favorite being the Hammerhead course. There are also four sponsored teams in this game (axiom, k2 sports, Mountain Dew and butterfinger). And although he isn't rated the best in the game, I have always used The Technician and I became insanely dominant with using him as well. The tracks were well thought out and some were harder than others. To me, it was the swamp courses that gave me the biggest fits. Among some of the other features in the races were the ability to grapple and take very sharp turns if needed. There were also four turbo boosts that were available for each lap within the race. I know someone had already commented on this game in this thread, so here it is. This would certainly be top ten for me had this list actually been in a ranked order. Many late night specials with this game.

If you're in any way uncomfortable using ROMS (it's a bit of a grey area) then Genesis/Mega Drive games can be legally bought for PC in a wide variety of places. Sega's not a console maker any more so there's no advantage to keeping their titles locked down - Steam's got loads and here's a link to Sonic 1 as an official standalone (ie you don't need Steam installed) PC game. The game may have been a tad more fun to play arcade style, but most of my time playing it was on the NES system. I had some of the levels down to a T and could practically race through them. Kind of funny how simple the end of the game and beating Bowser was. The game had great catchy music to go along with it too, and basically spawned a generation of Mario video games to come. Really, there is nothing not to like with this one.

This is a game that would appear on my top ten had I properly ranked these games. It's a free for all blow-up and destruct car game. Each car is equipped with its own special weapon, such as a beehive, disco ball, scatter missiles, and blue lasers. My favorite characters were Dave with his Red van and Loki in his green pick up truck. Perhaps the best aspect of this game are the game maps themselves, ranging from a Ski Resort to Casino City to Area 51 to Hoover Dam. This game was just plain awesomeness.

28. Mega Man 5

http://theisozone.com/images/screens/playstation-41865-21329582466.jpg

Megaman rules. Capcom in general rules. I think that the fifth one may very well be my favorite, in that I thought that the levels and the bosses were the most interesting that I have seen in any Megaman game. It was probably the easiest Megaman for me, but at that time I didn't care. I could beat all the bosses without using special weapons against them. The only one that would put up somewhat of a fight was Gyro Man, but that was barely. My favorite part was the end before Wily when you had to beat all the bosses again. One of the best video game franchises of all time certainly.

I only buy the figures at garage sales for 25 cents or less, so I can live with them losing their hands. We usually find the hands on the floor somewhere, and then we have to try and match them up to the figures.

Great list. I will start my own top 50 videogames list soon. I have played far more PC games than console games so the games represented will be very different.

I have played far less Japanese videogames than you did. Most of my favorite videogames are western.

Never heard of Vigilante 8.

I played some of the Mega Man games a long, long time ago, but I don't remember which ones. I remember that I wasn't very good at them, though, but that probably had more to do with my age than the games' difficulty.

I know it sounds funny, but sometimes I would swear that there are more hands than there are figures that are missing hands. And the Mega Man hands look similar to the hands on the Sonic the Hedgehog figures, and the M&M character figures, so we check those a lot to see if they're missing hands, but we always seem to have extra hands.

Over a hundred levels of pure awesomeness, it's a game that you can either play as a single player game or a two person game. It's really fun either way. Also fun to be able to skip through the levels. The game is insanely hard near the end, which seems like it wouldn't be. Just one of those games that was great passing time.

Just finished skimming through this thread, the slight generation gap and the fact that I didn't spend most of my child in the States is the reason why a lot of these games are unfamiliar to me, but at least you posted a lot of classics, so rep for those. Just a straight up awesome game that was even more awesome because it could pass time as a passenger on the road. Great storyline (maybe the best?) And the dungeons are pretty tight too. The ultimate chill out with your friends game. This is my favorite of the kart series, although another one is probably deserving of being on this list. Really love the tracks. Some of them can be somewhat difficult but that's all part of the fun. The four player action is certainly where it's at though, when you have enough people around to make it happen

There's a chance the 64 is the best console ever made. Either that or NES likely for my choice.

It's hard for to choose, because I think our age when playing has a lot to do with it. The Dreamcast was really amazing when it came out. It had a lot of couch games, the never duplicated memory card controller lcd screens, but I mostly remember us playing sports games. Well, I bought this (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0369908/) .

The N64 with Goldeneye, Mario Kart, Rasslin' :D . I can't tell you how many nights me and friends poured into a basement to play that thang.
