Welcome to The MoFo Fight Club and Thunderdome.
The purpose of this arena is to set up face-offs between two MoFo opponents who will "fight" each other some way until, when they both agree that they're finished, or one of them has been completely destroyed, they say "WE'RE DONE." Or something like that.
We will then cast a vote afterwards and determine who we think was the winner of the fight.
I am hoping that these "fights" are actually debates. Quick debates, although maybe they could go on for a few pages. Debates about a certain topic of your choice. But if you want to have a fight with another MoFo and it's not actually a debate, I think that's fine, too. We have to make sure we play nice because I don't want the thread closed or anything, but it can look really mean as long as you're both cool with it. Playful fights. Playful fights.
Fights between two people will begin whenever someone challenges another MoFo and that MoFo accepts the challenge. If a MoFo does not accept a challenge, please feel free to call him a chicken and post GIFs and other pictures of chickens, if you'd like. Or other humiliating pictures.
Not Youtube videos because I hate Youtube videos, they slow up the loading.
If a fight is currently going on, do not interrupt that fight to start another fight. Wait until the current fight finishes.
Spectators, please cheer on the fights. Please cheer on your favorite fighter.
I would have put this in Games & Tabs, but I feel like since I want debates going on here, this thread could turn into something very interesting and readable.
Welcome to The MoFo Fight Club and Thunderdome. We hope you have a good time. Who wants to challenge someone to a fight first?
UPDATE:
The MoFo Fight Club and Thunderdome is now under new management.
Now come in here and just start fighting. Two people at a time is not necessary. Just come in here, be angry, and start fussing and cussing. Have fun.

Wait, wait, wait -- before you all go posting pictures of "yourselves" looking threatening, be aware that this thread is not for pretend fights, but REAL fights. Real debates or whatever. There is already a Pretend You're Fighting MoFo Thunderdome (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=34597) thread started by Sci-Fi Slob.
But that's pretend fighting. I want this to be REAL fighting. So, challenge somebody to a real fight. Pick a topic to talk about or whatever -- or just "fight." But you've got to do it with one other MoFo. And then when you're done, say that you're done and we'll publicly vote on who we think won the fight. I might even keep score in the first post. In fact, I think I will. Then we can find out who's the most BADASS MOFO around here.
I will link in the first post to where the fight first began, so you can find any fight you want in here easily.
If anyone's gonna fight, that is. Y'all are being a bunch of chickens. Somebody fight JiraffeJustin. He's ready to go.
Go start a fight with someone somewhere around here and tell them to come here and fight ya.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind participating in a real debate. There are some good topics here: http://idebate.org/view/top_100_debates
My friend and I were discussing how much sex education should get taught in schools. That's one that usually people have a lot of opinions about and people are likely to be of opposing minds on.

It's not a bad idea for a thread, I just don't think that everyone was clear on what you wanted. You want serious debate. I like that idea.
Sexy Celebrity
09-10-14, 01:45 AM
Maybe this thread should just be a bunch of different little debates. Maybe I was too severe with setting up the fights. I don't know. The idea just came to me and I tend to not think long about my ideas if I really like it at first.
I like watching people debate. So have at it hoss.

I don't know how much energy I have tonight, but my position is this: I do think schools need to teach sex education. I sympathize with parents that want to teach their children about sex in their own way, but in many households that education is little to none.

A man has the right to defend himself, but I'm not sure if "striking" someone is necessary for that. There are plenty of defense techniques that are much more effective and humane.
Daniel M
09-10-14, 10:50 AM
Yes, it obviously depends on the circumstances, but to defend himself and not do any excessive damage (although this should apply to all fighting). Not all men are stronger than women and I think I read the majority of domestic violence in this country is initiated by women too, I hate the exaggerated people who preach "a man should never strike a woman, 100%", yet have no problems with it the other way round.

On suicide
This is a subject that has divided people into two camps - one side brands the victim a selfish coward, the other says it's an act of great spirit and determination. My idea is to naturalize suicide, to treat it as a natural act which is borne out of consciousness, regardless of whether you agree free will exist or not. Far from being a cowardly or courageous act, I'd argue that suicide is a natural phenomenon that is part of our evolved consciousness as human beings.
1. As conscious creatures we think and feel irregardless of our will.
2. There are instances when our thoughts and emotions are overwhelming and hence difficult to control.
3. The individual reaches a point whereby he is convinced that his well-being cannot possibly be improved without freeing himself from his thoughts and emotions.
Seen in this light, suicide is a viable means to free oneself from the burden of consciousness.
Who agrees with me?
PS Sexy Celebrity - Free will exists.

Surely it's not that simple? I can't say I've ever heard someone talk about suicide as courageous or "of great spirit." Do you have an example? If there's only two sides to this argument, I would argue there are those who see it as cowardly and those who see it as a last resort, nothing-else-for-it, profoundly tragic but sometimes-necessary (at least in the mind of the victim) way out of a terrible situation - never something to be applauded.

Suicide isn't supported by evolution since it doesn't aid in propagation of one's legacy - it's not cowardly, but it's a loser's way out - not a winner.
Most people who commit suicide are also wrong that their well-being "cannot be improved", they're simply confused on how to do it and take the easy way out.
Truth be told happiness is psychological more than physical anyway - if it wasn't you wouldn't see happy people in poverty, and millionaires taking their lives

Not all men are stronger than women and I think I read the majority of domestic violence in this country is initiated by women too, I hate the exaggerated people who preach "a man should never strike a woman, 100%", yet have no problems with it the other way round.
This - not to mention the "never strike a woman" BS is anti-feminist - it's based on chivarly and the idea that women are 'weaker' - which while this is true, is definitely contrary to feminists' goal of removing female stereotypes.
If a woman claims to be a "feminist" but uses the "never hit a woman" rhetoric - then she's a living breathing contradiction.
What's everyone's opinion on sex education in schools? Two people with differing opinions can fight.
It's good - states with sex education have lower teen pregnancy rates.
Most of the objection to it is based on religion-inspired prudery and a disproportionate negative fixation on "sex" - this is why there's more objection to children learning about human body parts than their is learning about events like the Rape of Nanking or the Holocaust.
It shows that these barbaric routes still have far reaching influence even in modern 'secular times' - as is the reason that showing nudity or sex on TV will get a film rated NC-17 faster than showing graphic torture and violence.
Hopefully in a few more decades we'll have become enlightened enough to realize that objecting to "sex" more than "graphic violence" makes us seem very "Jihadist" in our way of thought.

I think years ago, I would have fallen in line with the typical b.s., or pandering for pu$$y as I see it now. Some people don't wanna be accused with being "conservative" so they go opposite so they aren't in "bad company" or doing the right thing for the wrong reason to feel good about it for fifteen minutes.
I think it's anti-feminist telling women to join a group to become an individual... If the point is to emerge as human beings. I think it started out as a marketing campaign of some sort, making a guy feel guilty so he doesn't mind shelling out a few hundred dollars extra for another pair of shoes. And at the same time being a scapegoat. Opportunism. Cherrypicking.. When it comes to strength, say war, it's a man's responsibility. Or performing in business, or performing sexually. Some "feminists" only want the benefits of men and women. True liberalism is to follow your own voice, not to alternate oppressor and victim.
I think years ago, I would have fallen in line with the typical b.s.

Or we can be narrow and pretend the spectrum is from Al to Ted Bundy. That's how the argument can ostracize so the debate width is so thin that you must fall in line with some kind of b.s.

IMO the 'truth' to the debate is that women are more fragile and can't hit with the same amount of force - so a 200 lb man hitting a 120 lb woman is viewed similar to an "adult hitting a child" - seems a lot more cowardly than the reverse.
But on the same note a bratty child hitting a grown-up is terrible behavior and shouldn't be regarded as "normal" just because the grown up's less likely to get hurt.

And yet these are presumably the same users who have no problem sitting through entire films and TV series and being able to cast votes for relevant countdowns (especially in the case of film countdowns and their various specifics such as genre or decade). That's especially baffling.

I don't know that I'm right. I just know that people used to sit and listen to an album (or just put it on while they were doing something) and I rarely see/hear of people doing that now.
Most of the albums on my list I've sat and listened to many times and I mean sat and listened to. Sat there, listened. Turned the record over. Sat there and listened to that side. Usually while sitting with the album cover and, on the first listen or two, pouring over every inch of it and all the notes
