View Full Version : Review writers can now flag their reviews
New feature for you intrepid review writers: there's now a checkbox on the New Thread/New Reply pages that allows you to suggest your post for inclusion in our Reviews area (http://www.movieforums.com/reviews). To date, myself or one of the mods has had to notice and tag it, and we get most of them, but every now and then we miss one or don't get to it right away.
So now, you can bring reviews to our attention immediately. Just check the box and your review will go into an approval queue. When it's approved, you'll receive a notification, just like you do for New Rep/PMs/etc.
I haven't had much time to test this yet, so let me know if there's any bugs in the earlygoing--especially in regards to the notification system.
EDIT: it looks like this:

Great addition Yoda. Saves you scanning all those threads!
Hopefully, yeah. :) I'll still have to for awhile, because I imagine it'll take a little time before everyone notices and uses it, but this should make things easier for us on the mod side and be a lot quicker for the writers. And I imagine all of them will really like knowing when new ones have been added, too.

It's pretty clearly stated, Yoda. Hopefully it'll only be routine which leads to people doing it 'the old fashioned way' and that'll quickly change. :) I think it's a good feature.
Yeah, if anything it's too prominent given that most people won't be using it, and even those that do won't be using it often. I might try to find a way to only display it sometimes, or for some users, or maybe just in the Movie Reviews forum. Not sure. I want it to be noticeable for new users who don't yet know how to get their reviews in the Reviews area, though, so I might just leave it there all the time.

Great feature Yoda. Look forward to flooding the mod box.

Nice addition... I'll keep my eye on this one. May be a few days before I get a new review up.
Also, since a couple of people have mentioned it: this is only on New Thread/New Reply pages, not Quick Reply. It might be added there later, but I assumed most people compose their reviews on the "full" page.

I compose review on the go advanced...
I'd recommend a button at the top right where the rest of the functions are. Make them visible to the poster, kinda like the +rep button, so they can flag their review.
That's not a bad idea. I'm a little concerned that we'll get a lot of accidental clicks putting it there, but I do like the idea of using that space and making it even easier for people to find. Have to think about the best way to go about it.

Thing is, how often do people click +rep by mistake...
It's a defined button... I think a quick flag button under the dropdown menu with Edit, Quick Reply, Multi-Quote and Report would work.
"More Options" dropdown, then "Flag As Review"...
Simple
If someone clicks Spam, you guys can look at it and judge as Mods.
Not sure about rep, since nobody asks me to remove accidental positive rep, but accidental positive rep doesn't create more work for the mods and I.
I'd definitely be cool with putting it under More Options, though my guess is nobody would notice it there unless they already knew about the other checkbox. But there's not much downside, so that's probably what I'll end up doing. Good thoughts.

So you can't flag old reviews that haven't been flagged yet right? Only on new posts?

I see this link "Suggest this post for inclusion in the Reviews area (how's this work?)" when I make a new post with 'Go Advanced'.
But as you know I have wrote reviews, posted them and forgot to click that box.
So can you add the review box to the edit page? That way if somebody initially forgets, they at least can fix it, by clicking edit and then click the review box.
That's what I need.
Great idea. :) Done. Let me know if you guys run into any problems with it.

You're the man! Thank you! I just checked and yes I see the review box when I click edit. That's cool!
Yoda, I'm very impressed at how much care you put into your web site and how responsive you are to us posters.:)
Don't mention it. :) It helps that you guys usually have good suggestions.
Okay, slight update: because of some confusion about the flag checkbox when editing reviews (which is my fault--it wasn't very intuitive), I've changed a few things.
If you've submitted the post for approval and go back to edit while the approval is pending, it'll have a message saying so in place of the checkbox.
If it's been accepted, it'll say so, and link you to the review in the Reviews area.
If it's never been submitted, you'll see the checkbox.
If it's been submitted and rejected, you'll still see the checkbox (so you can resubmit), but with an accompanying notice about the criteria.
Should be a lot clearer now. :) Apologies for any initial confusion.
