Really sorry to hear this. :( I'd noticed he hadn't been on in a bit, but it wasn't unusual for him to leave for awhile and then come back, so I didn't think too much of it.

He and I had a lot of conversations about a lot of serious issues. Some contentious, some very respectful. He was always intelligent and over time I came to like him more and more. There was one conversation about mathematics and metaphysics that we kept meaning to have, but never did. And now I guess we never will. It's a shame, because I would have liked to have heard what he'd have to say about it, like so many other things.

Rest in peace.

This was a poem (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=1115075#post1115075) he posted two weeks ago:

Oh my metaphor
My sad sad metaphor
How I cry and/or wail for you
My spirit lactates
My orifice quivers
Dust and spilt milk

Like sands through the hourglass...
These are the days of our lives
Ignominious defeat
at the hands of a clock
Clowns surfing their webz
Looking for clown sex

What have we become?
Wherefore and what dost thee
Thou verily do the dew
Tragedy wracks my little brain
Sighing and whimpering
I hide under the bed

Taste not the cheerios of fate!
All is lost
Starring Robert Redford
Might be worth checking out
Because I enjoy films about survival
Man versus Nature
That sort of thing

But I digress
To quote Mark Twain
And so on
It's nothing but a G thang, baby
And I'll be seeing you in all the familiar places
Sipping upon gin
And juice

For thine are the power and glory and nachos
Forever and ever
Ect.

I the forgotten
all the echoes in time
all the reaching
all the sensory packages
and their inevitable eroding
the inarticulate collapse into default eternity
all the nameless gods
their entourages of saints and devils and worker bees
the seminal moment of reflection
the madness
all the moments of solace and distortion caught like flies in amber
all the old rusting networks and the machines who found peace
the dead and near-dead

I the forgotten who are now beyond the sign
outstripped by evolving awareness
left in a limbo of untranslatable identity
unformed to you
aborted to me
I see them as your unsung ground
As ground you are to be

Anyway, Deadite, my dear, sweet online friend, here is an Evil Dead II prayer candle lit (I think it's lit?) in your honor.

Deadite, I don't feel totally surprised by this, actually. I risk sounding like... me... but, if one of us was gonna go... had to go... and you did go... I'm not totally surprised it was you. I don't know much about you, but I know you liked horror movies (as I do) and I know your life wasn't always easy. And it sucks that you only had 36 years of life. That's not a long time. I hope, though, that you found some peace and happiness while here. I hope I helped give you some of that.

We used to talk a lot back in the day via PM when he first joined. Our friendship had some bad days, but I think the good days definitely outweighed them. A memory just came back to me now about something that happened then. I'm not going to go into it, but, damn, now it's you. Deadite, I hope you went peacefully. If there's another realm of existence after this, I hope you watch over us. Of course I won't mind if you're too busy to and you do other more fun things.

R.I.P. Deadite!

I love you! We'll miss your posts here!

Always,

Deadite, though... well, we haven't PM'ed each other about stuff in awhile, but his voice and his personality do stand out for me. Even when he was alive and not here for awhile, I'd wonder where he was. I am surprised that he died, actually. It's surreal to see "R.I.P. Deadite." He can't ever come back and scold me anymore or make some funny joke or basically roll his eyes at me. I will miss that. I wish I had got to know him better.

Does anybody know if he meant the original Japanese versions of The Ring and The Grudge or the American remakes?

Probably Japanese. This is Movie Forums, afterall.

I am leaning towards the American remakes right now, just because he has them listed as The Ring and The Grudge. The Japanese version is usually listed as Ringu or just Ring. While The Grudge is usually listed as Ju-On. I could be wrong, but I will go with that.

Deadite gone? Seems weird to have someone post here saying he's passed away.

Deadite and I did NOT get along when he first started posting here. I considered myself the resident "horror" guy on the message board and here comes this other guy who always seemed to get up in my face with his egotistical attitude.

Yoda and I actually had a back and forth PM session over the constant negative REP that Deadite would give me over absolutely nothing.

Well, time passed on and we actually got to liking each other. I don't think anyone else on this board got or respected the horror genre as much as I did like Deadite did. His avatar was an instant recognizable picture.

The guy had an opinion and like it or hate it, constantly got the conversation going.

Will be missed, he was an important part of this site.

Will be watching some films of his in his honour, maybe we should do a week of watching his favourite films in his honour? Make a thread for it and just shoot the sh*t about Deadite at the same time?

He stayed for most of 15 years we were cousins by blood but we were brother's. He taught me alot was the smartest person I knew. As you can tell my writing skills blow lol he knew but encouraged me to join he introduced me to jrpg's an a loved formed for them.he introduced me to movies really with the same result lol. I still can't wrap my head around that i'll never play another rpg with him, or watch another movie. But i'll continue to watch movies and game in his memory.

I didn't have any interaction with him, but I certainly remember reading a lot of his posts. He definitely seemed like a cool guy. At least his contribution here will live on, even if we won't see any new posts from him. It's strange that this is the third forum where it was confirmed that a member had died. In one case it was an older gentleman, but in the other it was a young guy as well, because of health reasons. I'm sure there's been cases where a member just stops posting and it's because they've passed away. It's horrible news, but having happened, it's better to know about it so as to honor that person, especially when they're a valuable member.

It is always hard to loose someone in a community like this because from all the responses it is clear this is not just a forum but a family and in this sad time it makes me smile that he touched so many people in so many good ways and was loved, it is clear he will not simply be forgotten.

RIP Deadite.

Very sad to see this today. :( I really enjoyed chatting with him on a number of occasions. He was a sharp guy.

You know, this throws into sharp relief the "reality" of even our digital existence here. Most of us have never met, so we're just names on a screen to each other. Just a bunch of silent voices all gabbing away, not really affected by nor concerning ourselves much with the passing of time. I've been a member here for 10 years. Sure doesn't seem that long.

Just want to say I'm thankful to "know" all of you here. I really enjoy this forum and I'm glad Chris has taken the time to keep it going.

Deadite was responsible for pretty much all of my rep on weird little posts that didn't deserve any sort of rep. I didn't know him all that well, but from what little I knew, and the little that we talked, he was a decent guy.

Deadite gave me a rep for pointing out that a movie from the 90s can't become an instant classic ;). That wasn't my last rep from him though, he gave me 3 or 4 since then.

The last post of mine that Deadite repped was this silly post of mine in Food Association where I posted a picture of a key lime milkshake. He repped it a week ago, even though it's sort of an old post.

I edited the post just now and dedicated it to him. (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=1058960#post1058960)

He also repped this post in Sweatin' to the Oldies Song Tournament (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=1119969#post1119969) a week ago.

And he repped this (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?p=1118802#post1118802) two weeks ago.

I think everyone struggles with that -- envisioning certain ages.

I remember as a kid calculating how old I'd be when the year 2000 hit -- a whopping 38. At the time, I just KNEW I'd never live to be 38 and see the millennium change.

Turns out I was ringing in the new year with my new second husband instead... another thing I would never have expected: not only ever getting married but ending up getting married twice.

I'm 53 now and can't envision myself being my parents' age. Just because it's difficult to imagine doesn't mean it's impossible.

Over the last few days I've been clearing out my inbox and other PM folders. It's something I've been meaning to do for years because they were an absolute mess, just hundreds and hundreds of messages I'd never gotten around to deleting or organising.

Anyway I just came across this old PM from Deadite from a couple of years ago. Don't know why exactly he left at the time but revisiting it now almost brings a tear to the eye. And the fact that the message has the title "Goodbye" makes it even more poignant

Ever since I became a member of this forum I've been reading about this Deadite guy and how people were writing RIP all over the forum. Then I realized it was a member who passed away, when I saw this thread for the first time. Knowing who he was or not, I felt sad either way. Never felt like posting in here though, it felt too weird as I didn't know him as I came here too late, but now I feel like saying something anyways.

I wanna say, I do understand and condole with people who knew him through the forum. You'll be surprised how much you get to know one another through simple writings of text. Back and fourths, opinions you have and haven't got in common, personal and impersonal stuff etc. After a while you basically got a surprisingly clear picture of the actual person. I can't even imagine being on this forum for years to come and then suddenly a member passes away that I felt like I knew first hand.

Deadite wasn't really here for a very long time, though. I think he joined in 2011. He would also disappear for months on end.

But, he made himself known. At least he seemed a little stand-outish to me. He had a fierce personality. Passionate. He was low key without really being low key. He was like thunderstorms -- loud, but not something you hear everyday. And now he's become a rare kind of solar/lunar eclipse/comet/whatever kind of thing -- we saw it, but now it's gone, and we're never gonna see it again in our lifetime.
