Mofo achievement thread (discussion) [Archive]

This is an idea I got from many different sources. Since we have so many tournaments, challenges and Survivor type games (not to mention the Mofies which Rodent has already put a lot of work into already for 2014.), I thought it would be neat to have a mofo achievement thread. Each post could be the name of a member and every tournament, challenge, award or anything of that nature could be listed under their name. I't would add a different level of competition to the challenges and tournaments too knowing that you get something new under your name if win or are the runner-up. I also think that any ten year member that is still active should get a special achievement too. That is something that could be announced at the Mofies, if Rodent is up for it.

I thought about it and I just can't see alphabetical order working. For one thing we would have to sort out the members and another thing is that there will be future members winning stuff. I think it may just go up in a first come first serve type of thing.

What I need is active members who plan on being here for a long time and who can commit to updating the thread in a timely manner. This is how I think it could work; an "official thread" would be opened and each post would be a Movie Forums member with their name in big letters at the top. Under their name all their achievements will be listed. For example:

1st Survivor Winner

If TUS should win anything else or we find something from a long time ago whoever posts his name would be responsible for going back and editing that in. People can also help by looking back through tournaments and posting the winner and the runner-up in this thread and then someone can take that information and put it under the correct name.

This is something that will take some digging and some work but if enough people get in on it it will be manageable. Also if someone wanted they could post their own name and their own achievements, but you can't make something up. It has to be something were you one. Oh, and Sexy's mofo list would count too, no matter the person's placing.

Any comments? Anyone in?

JirrafeJustin won Mofo's Favorite Director Tournament 2013 nominated Stanley Kubrick.
The Gunslinger45 was runner up in Mofo's Favorite Director Tournament nominated Martin Scorsese.

You know what I miss incredibly -- that I was so good at? Song Tournament. I want another Song Tournament! But I'd hate to do it because everyone complains about me running it too fast (and they're right).

I miss those too. I get frustrated on my days where I have a lot to do because I absolutely can't log in here until night time. If I do I get sucked into this vortex and all of a sudden an hour has passed and now I'm way behind in everything I had planned for the day.

Do you know who the runner ups are? Those count too. Just second placers though. I'm going to go ahead and open the thread and put Jiraffe's name up, just so people can get an idea of how it will look and start putting the names up they want to be responsible for.

What I'm thinking, is get a thread going soonish, maybe within the next week or 2 with the categories in the first post... that way people can make notes from between now and January for things like best thread or best post etc etc etc...

That way, by December-January when the entries start getting sent in, MoFos won't forget about stuff that happens right now in May and June.

I remember last year, when the nominations were shown, there were a few people saying "Oh yeah, I forgot about that, wish I could re-nominate".

They coincide with the usual Awards. 2014 MoFies are in Jan-Feb 2015...

However, the categories are based over the 2014 period, meaning people need a chance, and time, to keep their eyes open to get their nominations together. Some of the categories are things like Best Post.

I've been digging through tournaments and I've edited in.a lot of wins and placings for quite a few of you, so you may want to have a look-see at your post. I remember putting stuff in for Daniel M, Cobpyth, Rodent and Honeykid and quite a few for Mark F. I may be forgetting a couple of people though.

Teeter, I'll try to go through your tournaments and figure out who won sometime. It's a little confusing for me the way they are formatted.

Donuts for winning a song tournament, Powdered Finger for winning Battle of the Mofos : The New Batch Sticky Shoes won one of Teets tournies and Mezmerized won a Mofie. If anyone wants to make a post for one or all of those go for it. It's not is if you'll have to maintain any of them, unless Donuts comes back. (Hopefully)

I wouldn't even have noticed I'd warranted an achievement of any sort if I hadn't gotten bored and wandered into the other song tournament. So thanks to Sexy! (And Godoggo.) Just to clarify to Godoggo and anyone else, I registered five years ago, but only started posting a few months ago. I was a lurker even longer than five years. I don't mind the picture of the anonymous Vietnamese girl smoking a cigarette, but the Kaplan name comes, of course, from North By Northwest:

Glad you decided to start posting. Hopefully, you'll continue to post and maybe play some more games (survivor's coming soon :)) To be honest, I didn't make the Kaplan North by Northwest connection until now even though I've seen the movie a couple of times.

If you haven't looked through the achievement thread in awhile you may want to take a gander. Quite a few things have been added. We are a busy little site. Can't wait until I get to add the 2014 Mofies!

I can't get the multi-quote to work so @ Gunslinger: Yep, and I am not a bad shot either. My S/O is going to take me out shooting soon, so I'm going to get even better. :cool:

I said this in The Shoutbox but I am going to say it again; Rodent has put so much work into these and it shows! He would show me a MoFie and I would think it looked perfect but he still worked on them more and made them even better. The first one was a little fly by the seat of the pants because I didn't even intend to have an awards show at first so it was a bit sloppy. This one is going to be miles better.

Rodent is production and I am going to be the host. I thought it would work smoother this year if I had a presenter for every award and didn't do any myself. That way I could be there to announce the next award and the presenter so that way everyone knows when to go. Last year there was a lot of wondering whose turn it was.

It was still a blast and I expect a lot of participation this year. It doesn't matter if you don't get one. It's still fun to see who does.

I was afraid if I put up the categories too soon people would lose interest, but if people want me to I can put up the thread soon.

That's true too. I still like the idea of being "free" to make sure that everything is running correctly and to be there to congratulate every winner and that sort of thing. It made me a bit crazy last year trying to do both.

Oooohhhh, then I could be Elvira!!! I really want to go with this theme for 2015! There is a lot you can do with Star Wars and horror as well, but Indiana Jones feels kind of confining. I'm really just not crazy about the movie.
