Based on the true story of Robyn Davidson, a young woman who trekked solo across the Australian desert in the 1970s with virtually no experience, Tracks admirably portrays this puzzling loner trudging her way through the awe-inspiring landscape with honesty. Whilst some attempt is made to suggest reasons for Davidson's bizarre quest, we are never entirely sure what has motivated her to take on such a daunting challenge in the first place. Mia Wasikowska is superb, the landscape is breathtaking and beautifully shot, but this is not your average adventure movie. Viewers expecting some kind of survivalist epic with near-death experiences will find this predictably dull and boring. The action is low-key, and the narrative resembles a meditation rather than a series of story events. While it might seem a bit pretentious, just remember this film is produced by the Weinsteins, never knowingly undersold at the Oscars.

I saw this a few weeks ago on the day of release and can honestly say it is one of the best films not only that I have seen this year but in some time. I have spoken to people about and most have said to me; "so it's about a woman walking? on her own?" which is to entirely miss the point of why this film is so good to begin with. I am unsure how well it did at the Oscars or other awards ceremonies because I don't really pay attention but paying attention to this film in my opinion pays off and left me with a feeling of wonder and awe for this woman.
