Traveling backwards in time creates paradoxes, for example, if you went backwards in time to the past and killed your grandfather then how could you be born in the future to go back in time?

The paradox becomes resolved with the concept of parallel universes. When a person travels backwards in time, they automatically shift, or branch into an alternate "parallel" reality. Then if they accidentally cause the death of an ancestor it still does not blot out their own existence because their original timeline is still intact... :idea:
