View Full Version : Emergency On MoFo!
In the past 6 months (roughly) I noticed that there has been a dramatic drop in the Funny. Now, if there is as much Funny as before, it's definitely not as High-quality as before. I've been searching for a reason for this unpleasant drop, and I've come to the conclusion that there are two major reasons why:
1. Spudly has been gone, so everyone's spirits have drooped a bit.
2. There seem to be a lot of controversy threads, like the ones about Faith, Abortion, Heaven and Hell, God, and Evolution.
Now, I think that everyone should pitch in to make this place the Land of Funny To Spare, like it used to be. Lets stop a 90% of the arguing, and replace it with good ol' fashioned Funny, just like it used to be.
Well, that's my 2 cents. Thanks for your time!

I usually wet myself if I laugh to hard, so I make it a point to avoid "funny". CRAP! Now look what you did!
So far, our used-to-be-abundant stock of Funny is running out, and with more of those jokes you post of the Joke Thread, I'll be in your debt. *bows*

I don't think the drop is Funny [capital F] has been because of either of the reasons you pointed out. Spudly was funny but never all out hilarious. He was good natured an likeable but we're not discussing the lack of Love [capital L]. And there have always been controversy threads.
I think the departure of Mary Lo is the clincher. Where she goes and what she does only she knows [and me too. She writes]. But the lack of musical song [my contribution to Funny] and her wit [her contribution] is quite obviously a result of a lack of Her [capital H].
I could start recording songs again. Ask Chris. I am indeed the goldenest of Gods.

Yeah Mary leaving hurt this place. It would also be good for Funny if Sadie and Miriam returned.

I don't mean to commercialize myself, but I've been very Funny around here too. I'm often cracking myself up over some of my delicious, nutty fruitcake posts. :yup:

I don't think Sadie returning would up the Funny.

Why is that?

Sadie was the Queen of Flirt, not funny.

I thought she was hilarious. Not as much as Mary though.

Sades was a terrific appreciator of humor, but not the most consistent purveyor of it. She could be funny of course, but mostly she liked to laugh.
Mary Lo certainly supplied many opportunities for the funny to be dispensed, but I fear there is little to be done in the way of remedying this problem. And can there really be any solution to the lack of funny? Methinks we'll just have to wait this one out.

I agree with that. She had a great sense of humour in regards to knowing what was indeed funny.
Personally I find Holden to be a riot when he is at the top of his game [it is a very sarcastic and dry humour, but it makes me laugh]. That's why the "I'm off to have a dump" comment left me speechless. It was not exactly vintage Pike.
I'd like to think I'm funny. I'd like to think.
Sades was into being Funny, not actually being funny. We need more of Mary-Lo, I agree, and Jason, you've most definitely done much more than you're part, but for some reason, there seems to be some kind of gloom. All we need is more members taht are more like Jason, Chris, Toose, Silver, Holden, and (of course) moi! ;)
I agree. Sades was a giggle-bomb. She was the audience to the funniness of others. That said, I concur with my astute colleague Gummly; Mary Lo is the poster whose absence has most greatly contributed to our current Funny drought.

Well, where in the world did Mary Lo go?

She is a creative writing student and so she has been getting her first novel written.
Her professor likes it. So good for her.

Here is a dose of funny for ya' Gracie!
The other night I was invited out for a night with "the girls." I
told my husband that I would be home by midnight, "I promise!"
Well, the hours passed and the champagne was going down way
too easy. Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hall
started up and cuckooed 3 times. Quickly, realizing he'd probably wake up, I cuckooed another 9 times. I was really proud of myself for coming up with such a quick-witted solution (even when smashed), in order to escape a possible conflict with him. The next morning my husband asked me what time I got in and I told him 12:00. He didn't seem disturbed at all. Whew! Gotaway with that one!
Then he said, "We need a new cuckoo clock." When I asked him why, he said, "Well, last night our clock cuckooed three times, then said "oh sh*t," cuckooed 4 more times, cleared its throat, cuckooed another 3 times, giggled, cuckooed twice more, then tripped over the cat and farted."

Over the holiday I spent some time at my best friends house. She works for a jewlery manufacturer, and the office they occupy now was once a holistic medicine facility. Anyway, sometimes she receives mail for the old office, and one day got a medical retail catalogue, selling medical office supplies; wheelchairs, cotton-ball decanters, and other medical specific supplies.
Now, what's so funny about this is that the catalogue is from China, but the descriptions about the products inside had been translated from Chinese to English. Sometimes the translations are hilarious. Apparently the Chinese think that cleaning one's nose out is hygienic because on the last page of the catalogue there was a small device, about the size of a toenail clipper, pictured and described as being a "nose cleaner". It is supposed to clean out bacteria and such from your nostrils so that you won't become sick.
The funny part is at the end of the translated description, where in bold letters it reads:
"Just as brushing your teeth is cleanliness, so is cleaning out your nose. Remember everytime you brush your teeth to clean out your nose."

This is like a f*cking obituary.
I'm too pissed off to be funny.
So there.
He's right. Can you fathom how amazing MoFo would be if all the regulars were ever here at once, or even merely regulars again for a time?
hey, hey, hey whats this? you dont think anyone is a regular anymore or what? im slightly confused by that statement. Than again i could be just slightly stupid :D

Really? Cause that was hilarious. I, Sexy Celebrity, died very early in August, but was resurrected in November.

I just mean that lots of people who used to hang around daily visit less frequently now. They used to be regulars. The list is pretty big. Miriam, Sadie, Mose, Patti, Zeph, Laurie, Brodie, sunfrog, Vinny, Mary Lo, LBJ, etc. Most of them check in now and then, but they used to be completely hooked.
Which is cool, of course. We've all got our lives to lead, so I'm not trying to guilt-trip anyone. Hell, I spend a lot less time here these days, too. I just fantasize about all our current regulars and all our past regulars being regulars all at once. This place would be unreal.

Slaytan, you have no idea how much I needed that! r3port3r, very nice! It' reminds of the Iron Chef show on the Food Network. They're always cooking this bizarre dish that almost always involves baby shark. :yup:

I still think the very funniest period was earlier this year. You had the girls doing their things, and Spudly and myself and Mose addicted to mini golf and Yoda just being Yoda and it was just so damned funny.
