View Full Version : How often do you exercise?
I am a running nut and find it both strangely therapeutic and relaxing. I run four times a week, with an average of 7 kilometres (4.3 miles) per run. It's much easier to stick to this schedule in the winter time, as the weather is much more moderate and easier on the body. Yesterday I ran 7.5 kilometres in 35c weather (95F), and I was sweating profusely. Still, that's nothing compared to my ghastly 5 kilometre run in I once endured in 40c (104F) climate.
Other than running, I really don't participate in any other forms of exercise. Weightlifting has never been my thing and going to the gym is downright boring in my books. Running takes you places, whether it be to the beach, the park, or around your suburbs.
How often do you exercise? Perhaps this can be considered the general exercise thread, as well.

I exercise just about every day.
I do a lot of walking. I live close to my work, so I walk to and from work each day which is a little over a mile each way. I also try to take walks on my days off, though lately I've been slacking a bit.
Almost every Sunday I also go bowling. Though when I say "I go bowling," I don't mean I drive there, throw the ball a couple of times, then sit on my butt and talk or eat for a few minutes, then get up and throw it a couple more times, repeat until the game is over and then drive home. I walk to the bowling alley - 2.7 miles each direction while carrying my 13 pound ball, bowling shoes, wallet, keys, a liter of water, and snacks in my backpack. Then I bowl 5 games in quick succesion. Then I take a break for a few minutes and eat a snack, then I bowl 5 more games in quick succession and then I walk home with all my stuff.

My work is my excercise so I work 5 days a week for 6 to 8 hours a day.
I exercise at home 3-4 times in a week.. with 20 minute skipping.

I consider myself pretty active. My new found love of drawing keeps me a lot more stationary than I used to be though. I make sure I get up and move some. I walk a lot. Having dogs helps with that.
I've stuck with Yoga and like that a lot, but as far as other types of exercising I tend to jump from one to the other a lot. My gym offers free classes, so I'll take different kinds for variation. I get tired of the elliptical/weight training aspect of the gym day in and day out, so I'm careful to mix it up with other things and go back to it when it doesn't seem to be such a chore.
I never used to exercise, then I went to exercising 4-5 times a week. I played various sports on different nights.
Now I'm signed up to a gym so I'm exercising a good 4 times a week plus I play cricket (doesn't really count as a workout though, some games are harder than others).
I've been sick the past couple weeks with glandular fever and lost about 6 kilos, so I'm planning on capitalizing on this and changing my diet for the better. Hopefully I can lose more and finally look the way I want to. I mainly lift and do a little cardio when I do workout.

Ive played competitive football (amateur league soccer) for the last 20 years which involves 2 nights training and a match on a Saturday afternoon. Also a bit of boxing on the side. Im now training to run/crawl the Belfast marathon in May and as its my first one im absolutely bricking it!!

I walk for an hour almost every day after work, unless I have plans. not always the same place. sometimes I walk the bike trails in the central park in my city, or sometimes i just walk the suburb I live in, and sometimes I walk over the bridge that takes me from the mainland to the beach side (I live in a beach town), which is quite a workout, because the bridge is steep. If i'm walking, I try to keep the pace up so i'll get a decent work out.
if it's raining a lot, then I try to do some sort of indoor exercise, like Zumba or Wii Tennis. I considered getting an exercise bike a few months ago, but I don't really have the room for it, and I don't really think i'd use it that much anyway, since i'd rather exercise outside.

I just went for my first routine physical in a few years yesterday and the Doc told me he wanted me to lose 10 pounds in the next 6 months. I don't think it's because of my weight; I'm 6'1", 215lbs, but rather to counteract the weight gain I may have if I succeed at quitting smoking. Anyway, he said using my wife's elliptical machine would be fine, and to start out slow and gradually increase my time. I went on for the first time yesterday and just went 5 minutes. I'm going to do 6 minutes today(what a F'N joke). That's what I get for not exercising all these years(I'm 42). My wife does 36 minutes, 5 days a week; I don't know how she does it.

I am determined to slim down by the end of of 2014 and so have been going back to the gym. I tend to free weights, cardio and leg work. It may sound dumb and it may sound like I am making excuses but I do not enjoy running and I am not very good at it, I had flat feet when I was younger and as a result when I walk my left foot kicks in on it's own, it seems to make it hard to run so when I go on the treadmill I tend to go at a slightly quicker than walking pace.

Running is overrated, doesn't sound dumb in the slightest if you don't like running. :)
