last weekend i saw Far from Heaven and totally fell in love with it. a friend of mine actually dragged me to the theater, but i'm glad he did! the film is a beautiful portrayal of a married, closeted gay man in 1950s Connecticut, played by Dennis Quaid. His unhappy wife is played by Julianne Moore, who initiates an affair with her black gardener ...

i give it 2 thumbs up :yup:

oh, and i'm new here, so hi! i need a recommendation for this weekend -- any suggestions?

use a spoiler (?)
he he. well, since you've seen the film, i have a question for ya:

does it bother you that julianne moore is receiving all the best actress attention while nothing much is being mentioned about dennis quaid? i really though his performance was stronger and more complex.

maybe it's just me, who knows.
how was your weekend?

What he means by use a spoiler is there is a way that you can write about the film in a box that doesnt directly show what youve written so that it allows poeple who dont want to know much about the film can read your thoughts on it without finding out too much. theres a post on it in the forums stuff section...its very handy, take a look! :yup:

I just used the search function! :)

...and I also just finished watching Far From Heaven which was a very nice movie. I hadn't seen it before tonight actually.

I have a few things I'm thinking about. What do you think about the fact that Mr Whitaker (Quaid) got what he wanted while Mrs Whitaker (Moore) didn't? Is it to symbolize the fact that in this world a man "gets away" with anything while women don't? I think the film was very good at showing several sides of discrimination and that the discriminated sometimes discriminates too. It's also refreshing to see a film that does not depict discriminated people as victims exclusively or as people without any bad sides. As someone else said here, the Quaid character was a very complex one with bad sides and good sides and always struggling to maintain the perfect facade towards the outer world while neglecting both his wife and his kids.
