The new biopic film portraying Princess Diana’s love affair with a Pakistani heart surgeon, Hasnat Khan, has been out the 5th September 2013.
Directed by Olivier Hirschbiegel and featuring the famous actress Naomi Watts in all her magnificence, the film has already been strongly criticized.
It focuses on the final two years of Diana’s life and cover her death in a car crash in Paris in 1997.
Here is a short summary of the story:
The 1st September : the Princess of Wales and the doctor Hasnat Khan are presented one to another by Oonagh Toffolo, friend of Diana, at the Royal Brompton Hospital from London. Now officially separated from Prince Charles since December 1992, Diana had many disappointing love stories.
While she wonders about the sense to be given to her life, she falls head over heels for the Pakistani surgeon and keeps this affair secrete for a few time.
Her divorce has been definitely pronounced in august 1996, Diana wants to believe in a possible future with Hasnat. He loves her with her good and bad sides. What’s more, he doesn’t care about her image of princely icon she embodies for more than 15 years. But he hopes a normal life, he wants to have his own privacy, so it simply can’t work between them…:(
The 6th September 1997 : Hasnat Khan attends in Diana’s funerals, hidden behind his dark glasses…
And shortly before the accident, she was still trying to reach him, to convince him to return to her.
According to the real and still alive Hasnat Khan, the film itself doesn’t tell the whole story, it has been based on “hypotheses and gossip”.
And in my opinion, it was a bit disappointing to learn about only two years of the Queen of Hearts life. There are so many things to tell about her!
As far as the members of the royal family are concerned (Prince Harry, Prince William, Prince Charles and the Queen Elizabeth II), we do not even speak about them!
This is a film nobody would bother going to see if it were not for the famous characters
One positive point is that Naomi Watts has tried all her best to look like Diana. A huge work has been realized to arrive at an almost similar physical appearance, gestures and voice.
The end of the movie is also a bit moving.
But I wouldn’t absolutely recommend you to watch this film. Unless you have nothing to do on a sunday afternoon, it could be entertaining !
