Need Advice: Digital Cameras

Peter seems to have a nice one...and I know Gummly specializes in this sorta thing. So, hit me with it: any good digital cameras out there? Or, for that matter, companies that tend to be reliable? I'm looking to spend between $150 and $250.

Digital video or digital still?

Because I don't think you'll be getting a digital video camera for anything less than a grand. I don't think. I might be a little off because I am talking in Australian dollars. Someone will probably need to back me up.
