When you saw this post you may thing that i'm little bit foul for talking about this movie. Yeah, i thought so until i saw it. My expectations for this movie were pretty low, i admit. But it really surprise me. Before i watch the Gangster Squad i did i little research about the story, which actually happen (in some point), and about the director (Ruben Fleischer).

The reason i saw this movie was because of his actors (like many of us do), starring with Sean Penn (really good actor, pretty adjusted for this roll), Josh Brolin (with a good performance, as the action actors), Ryan Gosling (another time with a really good performance, doing what he knows, charming and mysterious police officer) and Emma Stone (my and half world's crush).

The movie is about a gang of police officers and former police officer who flock strength to fight a known and respected LA villain. This a summary about the movie who may discourage you from seeing it. But actually, you will be surprise about the movie. His direction is not the best, but the actors and the script worth 113 min.
It's not one of those action movies where you just know whats going to happen. There are one or two scenes were you see some Bruce Willis and Tom Cruise's scenes, pretty unrealistic. But in this case, that just excites the current action. Don't you guide from the trailer, lame and nothing revealing about what a good movie is.

In my defense, this is my first review in this forum and i want to start in the bottom, average movie, average reputation.

I think the movie started off good, but as it went on it got worse. By the end, it had devolved into self-parody. I would have liked it more if it maintained a gritty, realistic tone, but it got more campy as it went along. In addition, in my opinion, although I like her as an actress, Emma Stone was completely miscast in her role.

^^This exactly. After the first thirty minutes, I thought I was in for a really good movie but by the end of it any good feelings had been eradicated.

yeah, i understand what you're saying. The ideia and story were really good, a better director could make this a movie of the year

I adored it. After seeing lots of negative reviews it turned out to be pretty good, one of my favourites from this year. Enjoyed every moment. Also even though the actresses don't get much to do, it was nice to see that all the main women were treated in a positive manner throughout the film.

Just watched this tonight and can't see why all the negative reviews. I thought there was some great performances, great action and it was very entertaining movie. I'll get a review up in my review thread pretty soon.

I like this movie, but it's definitely not a good one. The acting ranges from bland to unnecessarily over the top (Sean Penn was hilariously bad in this) and you don't need to look up the definition of "cliché-ridden" anymore; this movie is it.
