View Full Version : Movies of the 2000's tournament!

teeter_g
05-29-13, 05:04 PM
I am having a lot of fun with my 90's tournament and thought a tournament for movies from 2000-2010 would be fun too! So that said here are the rules.
1. Everyone involved only gets 5 nominations for each round. (not 5 at a time, only 5)
2. Nomination period will last from today Wednesday May 29-Friday May 31
3. In the first round you nominate movies only from the year 2000.
4. As the rounds progress we nominate movies from the corresponding years. Round 1: 2000, Round 2: 2001, Round 3: 2002 and so on.

I think this should be fun. In the last round I will take the winners from each round and put them all together and that will decide the best from 2000-2010! The over all winner is highlighted in red.

Winners
2000-Werckmeister Harmonies
2001-The Devil's Backbone

2005-Lady Vengeance
2006-Pan's Labyrinth

Good call on Shanghai Noon i'd have probably picked that if i had thought of it.

Thanks Camo. I've always loved that flick. Chan and Wilson had a really nice chemistry together, just a shame they never made the third film that had been planned.

All of these movies are gonna in the tournament...?

yep

Sexy Celebrity
05-29-13, 10:09 PM
But how is voting going to take place? It can't be pairs. You have to have a certain number to do pairs so that it all leads down to two. Plus by the time we finish, our grandchildren will be dead.

teeter_g
05-29-13, 10:12 PM
Calm yourself SC. I'll figure it out.

teeter_g
05-29-13, 10:14 PM
I am going to add 1 more movie to make it an even 60 and then I am gonna close this deal down and get the whole thing started. If I let you all nominate until the end of the week then we will be watching every movie released in 2000. LOL!

Titan A.E.

Nominations are CLOSED

Sexy Celebrity
05-29-13, 10:27 PM
Actually, you should make it 64, because then you can do pairs and keep dividing by two until there's only two left. At least if you wanna do a separate game for just 2000 movies.

Not where I live.

According to IMDb, it didn't see release in the states until January 2001.

Sexy Celebrity
05-30-13, 04:00 PM
Officially, Memento is a 2000 movie. It was released in Europe in the fall of 2000 before it was released in the U.S. And it's already in the 2000 tournament, anyway.

Miss Vicky
05-30-13, 04:03 PM
Well regardless, I'm out of 2001 movies I would want to nominate and I didn't notice the 2000 nomination until after the matchups had been made for the tournament.

Either way, I think it needs to be specified as to what constitutes the year of release since a lot of movies are released only in festivals and such before seeing wide release.

1. The man who wasn't there

Sexy Celebrity
05-30-13, 04:05 PM
I would judge the year based on what year is given at IMDB.com for the movie. Harry Lime's rule for his 1990's tournament is that the year of release is whatever year is given for the film at IMDB.

teeter_g
05-30-13, 05:12 PM
Memento does say 2000 on IMDB. Now, that said. Nominations for 2001 will end at 8PM tonight and we will begin 2002. I have been keeping notes in the documents on my computer so I can keep track of everything.

35 Shots of Rum
Still Walking
Summer Hours
Synecdoche, New York (seminal film for me)

If they need to be in an order, take whatever's easiest.

They don't need to be in any particular order, just as long as they are all from 2008.
