I liked it OK, but I didn't find it a masterpiece.

Can't find the first one, but here's what I said about the others.

The Human Condition II (Masaki Kobayashi, 1959) 3.5; Art House Rating: 4

This second three-hour section of the epic film seems a little more powerful than the first part. It does get to you, but I wish the characters didn't yell at each other so much. I realize that they're in an untenable position, but if I were in a war zone, I'd be much quieter so that people would have less of a chance of shooting me based on where my voice comes from.

The Human Condition, Part III - A Soldier's Prayer (Masaki Kobayashi, 1961) 3+; Art House Rating: 4 - Having watched all nine hours of this film, which I believe both Harry Lime and Holden Pike believe to be one of the all-time greatest, my main comment is that it's watchable but that it's also maddening. It does cover a lot of ground in the life of the protagonist, but I can't help believing that some of the time could have been spent with a few more lighter moments. Look, I agree with what this film says: War is Hell, it should be abolished and people should find a way to truly communicate with each other. It's a very significant film. I just wished I liked it as much as Bondarchuk's War and Peace which I'm watching now. I'd call The Human Condition "War and More War".

The last one was really though for me: one is just a few positions higher on my top 100 list.

Also, the Human Condition should have been treated as a single movie. It was divided into six parts anyway. Also, I am voting against my own nomination (Downfall), but dam, my favorite war movie of all time was paired against it.

Also, I had watched at least one movie in every pair, to bad I haven't watched the other in many cases. War movies rock!

The worst is Platoon (I found it a bit simplistic and contradictory, when it says war is hell and stuff but later show the soldiers killing enemies like flies in an epic battle, it's major flaws), however, it works very well, despite these flaws.
