Raise the Red Lantern just made me feel bad the whole time I watched it. The cold, calculating, jealous, and vindictive nature of all of the wives was just too much for me. It's a very well put together film, but it's a bit tough to watch. There Will Be Blood is an all-time favorite of mine, so Raise the Red Lantern would have to be perfect to beat it. It is not though.

I know where you are coming from. To me though, in There Will Be Blood you at least have someone you can root for. I am usually fine with films as I described Raise the Red Lantern to be, but it might have just caught me on an off day.
