Pick a band or musician that you can't stand at all. And try not to choose Bieber, Minaj or One Direction because those are way too easy :D
My choice is these guys:
http://www.sonic1029.com/files/coldplay1.jpg
I CAN'T STAND THESE GUYS. A lot of their songs (especially that horrible Para-para-paradise song) are some of the most boring and overrated ever written. I can't really think of another band I dislike as much as these guys (Nickelback almost makes the cut, though).

Is that Coldplay? I don't care much for them either. I've always thought they took U2's sound and made it a lot more commercial and blah.
I haven't heard much of One Direction's music, but what I have heard doesn't make me the least bit interested to hear more. What do they offer to music except, at best, mediocrity?
Oops, you said no One Direction. Now I have to think of someone else. Shouldn't be too difficult.....

Surely its the music that is the subject of the hate not the actual artists? I really, really dislike:
-Any artist that has been on a reality television television programme designed to make the record company execs and tv execs richer
-The Streets
-The Black eyed Peas
-Maroon 5
-Most manufactured bands like The Spice Girls or Mumford and Sons
-Most Rap artists who just sing about guns and their fellow african americans.

The thread is called 'Your most hated music artist' so maybe some people are focusing more on the person than the musician?
Imo, John Mayer is one of the most accomplished, versatile musician/singer/songwriters around.
His guitar-playing is fantastic, whether playing blues, jazz, rock, folk-rock, pop, you name it. His albums experiment with the same genres. I don't like all the songs in all his albums, but they each contain some really good songs. Plus, he's got his own voice; he's not trying to emulate anyone.
Check out John Mayer: Where the Light Is, Live in Los Angeles, in which he performs solo/acoustic, with his jazz/blues trio, and with his pop/rock band.

FI No2 - you listed quite a few types of music there. What do you listen to?
I listen to very few artists from this century. My favorite decade for music is either the 90s (I like grunge and that kind of alternative rock), or the 60s. I also like certain bands from the 70s and 80s, but I don't like disco or that ACDC style, which is what those respective decades are arguably most known for.
My favorite bands include Green Day, The Beatles, Audioslave, Foo Fighters, Queen, The Who, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Pearl Jam.
I do kind of like a few modern bands, like fun. and Mumford and Sons, but they are far from my favorite, and I don't ever go out of my way to listen to them.
The thread is called 'Your most hated music artist' so maybe some people are focusing more on the person than the musician?
I wouldn't accuse anyone specifically, or in any specific instance, but it definitely seems to me as if a really staggering amount of opinion about music has to do with something other than the music.
I think any number of mainstream bands that get ripped on would get a wildly different reaction if, say, someone heard they were just some new indie band. Or if we had to listen to them and judge them in a vacuum, not knowing who they were, what they've done, or who else liked them.
Miss Vicky

Part of my dislike of John Mayer is his persona, yes, but moreso I don't like his voice, I don't like his lyrics (in particular "Your Body is a Wonderland" really irritates me) and his guitar playing underwhelms me.

I'd never watched the video before, but I've listened to the song many times - a few different versions of it.
I happen to like the song. Think it's heartfelt, well-written, composed, etc.
I'm not going to argue with the anti-John Mayer contingent. Like we've debated in another thread, our favorite/best or least favorite/worst is completely subjective.
Was just wondering if it was due more to his musicianship or his person.

Music genres are not countries.
There is a great diversity inside Death metal and Black metal. In fact, saying that one hates Death metal and Black metal is nearly as radical as saying that one hates Rock and Pop music on the whole.
There is complexity and great richness musical textures involved on the work of these artists. Black metal is not very accessible it is like classical music since it is required that you train your ear to be appreciated.
Black metal is probably the most complex and sophisticated form of popular music that has ever emerged. It is a form of abstract music, rich in texture, emotion and layers. The most awe inspiring form of music ever performed on guitars, bass and drums.
Some examples of the vast diversity inside the set of bands that are classified as either black metal or death metal:
Death's death metal version of Painkiller, Judas Priest' masterpiece, one of the greatest works of art of the 20th century, in any medium, this song combines the minimalistic harmonic elegance of classical speed metal with the rich textures of death metal. I have listened to it over hundreds of times. It is one of the top 10 best songs ever made:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbp60IX_jFQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58o17dnB6hk
Amon Amart, below, is among the most accessible death metal acts, thanks to their less abstract style.

Black metal is to popular music what art films are to cinema: Different, more complex and willing to radically experiment, breaking the traditional taboos of their respective mediums.
I have great respect for the work of artists such as Bathory, Death, Mayhem, Darkthrone and Hellhammer.

I will not say I hate an artist, but there are songs that make me instantly change the radio station. Strangely, by artists that, in general, I like.
Can't stand "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton, and I really can't stand "Old Time Rock 'N' Roll" by Bob Seger. The former because it's sappy, overplayed, and is the one "sell out" song Clapton ever made, and the latter because it's terrible corporate rock glorifying the past while having none of the soul or passion that actual "old time rock 'n' roll" possessed in spades.
Otherwise, I can't say i hate any one artist. Rap is not to my taste so i don't listen to it, but I don't hate it. Same with country.
Nickelback.
Even calling them artists is a stretch.

Can't stand "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton, and I really can't stand "Old Time Rock 'N' Roll" by Bob Seger.
I love both of those songs, but I get what you're saying and I do tend to be more hateful of individual songs than of the artists that sing them.
I always dread when radio stations start playing Christmas music, because there is one song that I absolutely cannot stand. I seriously get violent urges from hearing this song. Like I want to punch somebody in the face.
This is that song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9BZDpni56Y

I also think I tend to hate a bad song by an artist I love more than I would hate a bad song by an artist I dislike or am indifferent to. Like this steaming pile of poo:

Smashing Pumpkins, and pretty much all the rock and folk music you hear today, are influenced by Bob Dylan.
You've probably listened to many of Dylan's lyrics in cover songs you don't even realize were written by Dylan.

I have the saddest memory from high school when I was sitting with some guy who was kind of my friend at lunch and this ******* assistant principal guy came over and saw him wearing a Bob Dylan shirt and started making fun of Bob Dylan for totally no reason at all. He was, like, imitating the way Bob Dylan sang, acting really retarded and disgusting. He was a cruel man, not someone trying to be lighthearted and fun. My friend kept giving him evil stares, but the guy would not shut the hell up. Anyway, it bugs me because that friend of mine actually died a year later, while the ******* assistant principal later became my old school's main principal. It makes me feel like one should not make fun of Bob Dylan.

Leaving aside the low-hanging fruit like Justin Bieber or Nickelback or what-have you, my immediate response would be Steel Panther. They're a parody of hair metal bands in the vein of Spinal Tap, but the crudeness of their humour drastically outweighs the cleverness and the music itself is just recycling the kind of tunes that Mötley Crüe (another band I don't have any real fondness for) drove into the ground twenty years. Aside from that, a whole bunch of modern-day punk bands.

Chris Brown...seriously, I think this should end the thread. You can't come up with somebody worth hating more than him.

Besides genres there are also sub-genres and mixtures of genres.

Swan is my most hated artist. Not because his music is bad, but because he promised to make a track dedicated to me with sexy moans all over it, but never did it.
Oh boy. I miss SnuffStuff so much. :(

Lil' Wayne, Nikcy Minaj. Mostly dont like the hip hop R&B genre to begin with. But these two are obnoxious.
